individual burner

I would like to purchase a separate single LP burner that is 20K BTU or higher for indoors. I would like a drop in unit as the range style will not blend with my kitchen. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

With your relatively high BTU requirement, I think you'll be limited to wok burners from the likes of Thermador or DCS.

I'm not aware of any single burner drop-in cooktops, but you've come to the right place -- if it exists, someone will let you know!

im not aware of it either...what about the gaggenau induction burner? not gas but its a single drop-in high power burner.

The Gaggenau might be as close as I get but hoping someone on this site has a gas option. Spent way too many nights glued to the computer reading this site to not ask. An amazing amount of learning I have done. Thank You all who take the time to help out!

We too wanted a high BTU unit. We originally considered the DCS wok burner, but it takes 24". We also wanted induction, a minimum of 6 burners, and enough cooktop space for multiple cooks. For these & lots of other layout & feature issues important to us, we finally chose the Gaggenau 3500W single induction burner (15" wide), the DCS 36" AG range with 6 burners, and the Gaggenau teppanyaki grill/griddle (15" wide).

The Gagg induction cooktop is very powerful: a full pasta pot comes to a rolling boil in under 7 minutes. DS prefers cooking on it because there's no hot flame. We love the instant on/off. The one negative surprise is the ever increasing level of noise as the power level is increased, a kind of hum; Gaggenau tries to feature this as "audible" but I find it annoying. However, our vent fan masks the hum, and I also find that heavier pans like cast iron produce far less noise.

I don't know if it's another lie salesmen tell, but one told me that Gaggenau has reduced the noise on the wok unit. The one they had in the store made a loud whine with a little water in the wok. When I can get a chance to travel to where the Gaggenaus live (an hour's drive, not Germany) I may learn more.

The Wolf gas wok unit is only 18K BTU. LP will reduce that number as well. The Gaggenau gas says 17K and has the knob on the cabinet face. The Miele is 16K.

It looks like the three choices are less BTU than you spec'd, induction, or rangetop style :)

I believe induction at 3500W translates to at least 31,000 BTU.

1 kWhr = 3,412 BTU, however according to The Induction Site "The complication is that the various technologies are not all equally effective at converting their energy content into cooking heat..." so they've developed a more precise formula for comaparison:

we can say that gas-cooker BTU/hour figures equivalent to induction-cooker wattages can be reckoned as: BTU/hour = kW x 7185

So the Gaggenau 3.5kW induction wok unit and top powered Cooktek drop in and wok units are the equivalent of more than 25K BTU gas. All of these units expect you to mount the knobs on the cabinet face, as does the Gaggenau gas unit, but I've been told that you can also mount them on the countertop deck with adequate spacing.
