Appliance List

Hi, all i've been reading posts here for a long time...and have finally begun making progress on the home build and had some questions regarding appliances for the kitchen.

Below is the list of appliances we are currently looking at. Any feedback or comments you can make on the appliance list is greatly appreciated.

Background it's a family of 6 - everyone loves to eat and cook...

Refrigerator 36" Sub Zero BI 36R/S/TH

Freezer 36" Sub Zero BI 36F/S/TH

Range Top 36" Blue Star RGTNB366BV1

Hood 36" Blue Star BS - PC36240

Blower 600 CFU Blue Star BS PC1B600

Wall Oven 30" Miele H 4892 BP2

Dishwasher 24" Miele G 2872 SCSF

Microwave 23 7/8" Panasonic NN-C994S

Electric Cook top for Island 15" Wolf CT15E/S

I'm not sure if the hood is going to be big enoughwe do a lot of ethnic cooking and want something powerfully enough that will prevent the smell from reach other parts of the house.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Two comments - why are you getting an electric cooktop for the island and how are you going to vent it?

I'd think twice about the Miele oven. There have been a bunch of posts recently about Miele ovens not coming up to temperature and Miele customer service not responding. Consider a Wolf instead.

thanks about the info on the Miele...the second cooktop on the island is really for light cooking...tea coffee etc...would it still need to be vented for that?

Hoods are supposed to overhang appliances by 6" (3" each side) so you should need a 42" hood for a 36" range. I don't know the exact number of CFU you need but my last one had a value per the BTUs of the cooktop. We bought 1 cfm per 100 btu. Worked great but would get a remote blower next time because of noise. When on high sounded like a small plane taking off in kitchen.

That is a mighty impressive list.

An electric cooktop doing only light duty heating up does not require ventinilation IMO.

But since you are going all out why not a 42" hood with a 1200cfm blower for the Bluestar rangetop? Are there space and access restraints?

deeageaux - 1200 CFM usually requires makeup air which 600 CFM won't (in most locales)

I thought our resident ventilation expert that uses words like "effluent" and mathematical formulas says anything above 340cfm may very well need makeup air?

Well, that may be but if you go by code, only some northern states require makeup air over 300 CFM - other places require it over 600 CFM.

I'd consider induction for your electric cooktop in the island, especially if you are not venting it. Less heat lost to the room, extremely easy cleanup, and control is as good as gas. I finally just got rid of my flat top electric range. Had it and hated it for 13 years. I'd never, ever get another one.

If you're spending that kind of money on appliances, for goodness sake, add a warming drawer. I love mine. I use it every day and I think that it's tied with my induction cook top for favorite appliance ever! You won't believe how handy it is for warming bread, keeping a casserole, pie, etc., warm that you took out of the oven but aren't ready to serve yet, warming serving plates, keeping rolls hot, keeping delivery pizza warm (I put it in box and all). The list goes on....

LOVE MY WARMING DRAWER! And it's cheap compared to all the other appliances.

we have a warming drawer in our current house and never use it. Which is why we opted not to do one in this house.

Thank you for suggestions on the Hood and venting information. This is what the guy at the appliance store quoted. Will also look at the induction cooktop that small i hadn't seen one will have to look into it.

The blower that is supposed to be remote according to our GC.
