Electrolux Icon Users?

Hi everyone.

I am wondering if all of you who have Electrolux Icon appliances could let me know how they have been treating you? We are heavily leaning toward the 36" induction cooktop and the 30" single wall oven (Designer E30EW75ESS). I have read on the forums that the cooktop looks underpowered but I am wondering if I will ever notice? I also thought that I had made my DW decision (Kitchen Architect S) but am now looking at the Electrolux as a possibility. The frig is not in the group we are considering. Thanks in advance!

I was really leaning heavily towards the Icon double ovens myself until recently when a potential issue was raised with them. As much as I love the sleek modern look of the Icon oven it does have a completely translucent (clear glass) front panel on the door. The first potential problem is that in daylight you can and do see right into your ovens and the racks are conspicuous. That I could probably live with but then consider that as soon as you start cooking in it the racks and windows will become stained and dirty. That can't be very attractive and I sure don't want to clean my oven after every use.

So, right now I'm trying to find an oven that looks similar to the Icon but with an opaque oven window. It would help if it isn't too expensive because my kithen appliances budget is already through the roof.

If Icon users havn't experienced these issues I'd love to hear about it.

I've got the Designer Series double ovens, gas cooktop (coverted to LP), side-by-side refrigerator, and downdraft. They've been installed since June, and so far, I'm very happy. I get a lot of compliments on the appearance of the ovens, especially when they're in use. They're beautiful all lit up with food inside, work great, and stay unbelievably cool on the outside while they're in use. We decided against the Icon dishwasher, but I can't remember our reason for doing so.

Looking at some reviews of the single wall oven in particular, (Consumer Reports), I have read that the oven capacity is small (4.2 cu feet). Do you oven users find that to be the case? Also, I have read that the unit is not approved for stacking or side by side installation. Does that mean I am not able to put a microwave over it? I originally wanted to put an Advantium over it in the same wall but now I am confused. Any info would be appreciated.

lynnette63, what has been your experience with the oven windows? If the windows hold up well (and look decent after some cooking etc.) we may yet go with the Icon ovens. I think the are some of the best looking ovens around and according to Consumer reports they cook very well also.

we have the double icons 30". have had them for about 3 months. also the warming drawer. I am very happy with their performance. glass clean up had not been a problem yet but then i dont use the oven every day.

the nice features are the cool glass fronts (even when it is 400 inside), the shelf slides, and blue interior, the nice menu. I highly recommend them!

Thanks for the very useful feedback pharaoh! I really love the look and features of the Icon so I hope the rest works out. Since our kitchen will be open to the greatroom and sitting room appearance of the appliances is a bit more crucial than I'd normally care.

I'm glad you've not had problems with the glass so far. Thanks for the recommendation.

Out of all our appliances, the icons get the most compliments! the touch screen menu is a crowd pleaser :)

The slide out shelves are amazingly smooth and convenient.

Here are the photos of the newly installed ovens (and jade fridge)

pharaoh, those ovens are fantabulous! Oh I do love the way they look and especially next to that wonderful fridge. I know you must have gotten compliments on that Jade as well.

I don't have to make my final decision until the end of the week (or so) but I think I'm going to have to live with the clear glass on the Icons. I love everything else about them.

You mentioned they have a warm setting? My sales person said they didn't and that was a bit disappointing... if you can confirm that it would make me feel much better. The only other thing that I wanted and wasn't available on the Icon was the real-time temperature reading (as it warms up). That's not a major problem but a nice feature.

    Thanks for those pictures!

There is a 'keep warm' setting! I just noticed it. i use the warming drawer for that but now i realized that the oven themselves can keep the food warm!

the clear glass is not a problem at all. you can see inside only when the inside light is on and it is gorgeous. the bright blue is very attractive. The four panes of glass make the door look really solid. BTW the first time they delivered the ovens all of the glass was shattered! make sure you have them bring it inside the house. it is easy to drop the ovens and break the glass :)

also make sure you have the electrical wiring for it. we ran 80 feet of 6 gauge wires to support the electrical requirements.

when the oven reaches the set temp, it beeps to let you know.

    Pharaoh-
Your kitchen looks gorgeous! Do you have any more photos that you can share with us? Your cabinets look very similiar to the ones we are having made. We have yet to decide on the fridge but your Jade looks beautiful. What did you use for counter top?

I too am considering the Icon ovens and I looked at them yesterday along with the F&P. The Icon's are georgeous and I am leaning strongly towards them. They have all the features that I want in my ovens. Love those full extension racks in both upper and lower. The only thing that worried me was all of the LED lights in the temp panel. Has anyone had a problem with them going out and/or repair issues?

Pharaoh, I agree the ovens look fabulous in your kitchen! Do you feel like because the ovens having the warming feature you don't need the drawer? I also noticed while doing my research that the Electrolux has the lowest warm setting of any of the ovens, 100 degrees! Thanks for all of your feedback, it has been really helpful for me too.
Will you let us know if the glass cleanup becomes a problem? Thanks in advance

    lakeshorebuilder,

The inside glass on my Icons isn't hard to keep looking nice. I wipe it off after most uses, and occasionally give it a scrub, and it looks fine. My only cleaning concern with the ovens is that dust can get between the inner and outer glass. Probably not a concern in most households, but we have several pets, and get the occasional dog or cat hair between the panes. Maybe if I were a better housekeeper . . . At any rate, I don't get fur in the oven cavity, so it's not that big of a deal to me. Certainly not something that would keep me from buying the ovens again since the doors are among my favorite features. Not only are they very pretty, and get all kinds of compliments, but they really do stay as cool as Electrolux says they will, even during self-cleaning. Not just the outside of the doors, but the inside edges and tops, too. That's nice when you're short like me. No worrying about leaning against a hot door while reaching for a dish.

As for the size, the ovens are smaller than the oven on the range they replaced. However, other than needing new cookie sheets, that hasn't been a problem, and the ability to bake on several racks at the same time has more than compensated for the loss of a few inches. The racks end well before the glass, so I really think there's more usable space than the rack dimensions would lead you to believe.

I haven't used the warming feature yet, so I can't comment on it. However, if it works as well as the rest of the features, it should be great.

The full-extension racks were what really sold me on the ovens, and have been a big help. Once again, I'm short, so it makes a big difference to me to be able to pull the racks so far out of the oven. The tall salesperson thought I was nuts for making such a big deal out of racks (she kept saying I could just lift stuff out from the side), but every inch counts at my height. I do wish the racks didn't slide back in as easily as they slide out. Not a big problem, but they tend to slide back in while I'm stirring a dish or lifting something out with both hands. Other than that slight flaw, the racks are absolutely wonderful. I recently needed to use the conventional rack in one of the ovens to get a position not offered by the rolling racks, and was so glad that I didn't have to use it all the time. I had forgotten just how far regular racks DON'T pull out of the oven, and how much harder they are for me to use.

One other small gripe--unless I'm missing something, there's just one timer for two ovens. Kind of annoying when I had both ovens going with Christmas cookies. I just got out another timer and dedicated it to the bottom oven so I could keep everything straight, but it would have been nice to use the control panel for timing both
    ovens.

Since their June installation, the ovens have been used great deal, and I am very happy. I would definitely buy them again. In fact, DH is considering a job change, and has already been told that if we move, there will be new Icons bought for our new house.

    jrzygrl,

when i bought the ovens I was not aware of the keep warm feature so we ordered the warming drawer as well and use it to justify the expense :)

The full extension slides are really useful, you dont have to yank at them.

Thanks Pharaoh, Do you feel that the ovens keep things as moist as the drawer does and is it as flexible as the drawer. I can't really think of an instance that the oven would not work for warming except if both ovens are in use.
    So many decisions....
    Thanks for your comments!

Frankly, I havent used the ovens for keep food warm, just the drawers and they work really well. Of course, the dishes themselves get hot too...Food stays moist.

jrzygrl_2006, I read the manual, and it claims the keep warm setting is 170 degrees. How do you get it to 100 degrees? That would leave size (with that big hatbox convection element) as my only concern.

    Best,
    Michael

I keep reading that the only objection to the Electrolux Icon oven is the interior size. But the last time I was at the appliance store I brought along my pocket measuring tape and all of the ovens seemed to have about the same amount of usable space.

Which dimension is the problem in the Icon? I assume it's the front to back dimension that's short due to the "hat box" convection element.

My widest baking sheet is about 14" ... without dragging that down to my appliance store, could an Icon owner let me know if there's enough depth for a 14" sheet? Thanks in advance!

I was torn between the Electrolux and Thermador ovens, the latter advertising that they are have the largest capacity available. If you actually do the calculations based on the interior dimensions, there is a negligible difference between the ovens. I ended up with the Electrolux. I use 13 x 18 half sheet pans routinely and they fit with plenty of room to spare.

Does anyone have an Icon induction cooktop or an Electrolux hybrid cooktop? Are you happy with it? Does the stainless steel trim scratch easily from your pans?
I'm considering purchasing either the full induction or the hybrid (2 induction burners and 2 regular burners).
Any help you can provide would be appreciated!

Could someone please let me know whether the Icon has an oven cooling fan that comes on during normal bake (not convection)? I'm trying to avoid any unnecessary noise.

Bumping this up to get any updates from people with ICON's.
How clear is the glass holding up on the ovens (stains, discoloration, etc)
How is the top of the inductions holding up (scratches) and as asked before, do you notice if it's underpowered.
