What is the goal of changing out the cooktop? More firepower? Keeping up with the Joneses? What type of cooking do you do? Are you aware that you will need increased ventilation if you move to a high powered cooktop? And maybe makeup air as well? You're talking about a single component of a whole system here, and you have to think about the whole system at once. One component isn't isolated from the rest.

We need to replace the current cooktop which has 2 broken burners. The repair guy that looked at it said it really wouldn't be worth fixing.

I have seen a few comments about increased ventilation, but no numbers that would indicate if we would need to upgrade the range hood. We just bought the house so I am not sure of the exact model (could not find it anywhere that I could get to). But my best guess is that it is a Broan E6036SS

The cooking we do is pretty basic, breakfast foods, pasta, stir fry, etc. Nothing too fancy and it probably won't get anymore sophisticated, at least not until our 6 month old becomes a bit more self sufficient.
