Finally! Pics!!

Hi Everyone!

Well, the master bathroom is finally more or less done. Since I took these pictures, my white linen roman blinds have gone up at the windows, but otherwise we're done in here.

I hope you like it! Thanks to everyone for all the help and advice! I also did a powder room and another bathroom, will post those as well some time.

I'm excited to be the first to congratulate you! That's a bathroom anyone could love, from the tub to the shower to the sink. It's simply beautiful Ivette! (And beautifully simple, which is one of the best things about it.) I could hang out there for hours. You've succeeded wonderfully...I know you'll enjoy it for years to come.

It is so beautiful! Controversial as it is, I just love a wood floor in the bathroom. I am going to put one in my powder room, some day. Your clawfoot tub looks wonderful, and it fits the space so well. If it is a new tub, what brand? Enjoy your new space, it is lovely.

Claire took the words right out of my mouth! Simply beautiful and beautifully ELEGANTLY, simple. So peaceful. I love it and I love the mirror in the shower. And the wood floor.

Awesome! I love the tub...and the floor! Beautiful. We did wood in our Powder room too!

How beautiful! Do you mind including the details? I think it is a great inspiration for those of us who are just beginning to redo a masterbath. Congrats!!!

Wonderful! A beautiful, simple (I love simple :)) space for grownups. Is that a wool rug in there? And did you purchase the bench or did Joel make it (is he a master of all trades like mongo :))? What wood is it? How is it sealed? (or am I reading it wrong and it's some other material entirely?)

Wow! Thanks everyone, I'm overwhelmed! It is a sweet room. DH and I have already used the steam shower a half a dozen times and taken a bubble bath. It's heaven. Not a very large room, but it lives big you know?

Flyleft: Yes it is a wool rug. An old chain stitch that I got in India 14 years ago. I'm taking a chance putting it in the bathroom, but we'll see. DH and I are both pretty dry bathers, as in we dry ourselves inside the shower, including feet and therefore felt safe with the wood floor (which has Waterlox for extra protection) and with chancing the wool rug. If I see the rug is getting too wet, I will have to change it out. The bench is solid teak and no Joel didn't make it (for once). I got it on sale at William Sonoma of all places and then treated it with tung oil. It should do well, based on some teak pieces I've had in bathing areas before, but again, we'll see. The clearance price was so good that it's worth a chance.

The details, okay, let's see how many I remember:

The sink is Cesame's Belle Epoque.

The sink, shower, and bathtub faucets are all Barber Wilsons, polished nickel.

The tub is new and is from Waterworks and is WONDERFUL! It's almost too big, but I'll suffer. ;)

The shower tile is also from Waterworks and is their Architectonics line in "Mykonos." The showe floor is Waterworks' calacatta marble mosaic, and the grout is Mapei's "Biscuit".

The steam shower is from Roma and is truly God's gift to Ivette-kind.

The paint is DKC #3, eggshell (or maybe it's satin, it's all a blur).

The floor is white oak, like most of the rest of the house and is treated with Waterlox.

We used Starphire glass for the frameless shower. Really well worth the extra price.

The bath accessories are from Waterworks Crystal line(except the mirror over the sink) and are polished nickel and cost an obscene amount of money, but I really love them and have wanted them for many years. Since this is our forever house, we felt it was worth it. (I also got 20 percent off for being a "good customer." Can't beat that.

The mirror I got on sale at Restoration Hardware. I'm not sure about it though, I feel like maybe a round/oval mirror is in order. But, since we're destitute like forever, chances are it'll be awhile before we replace it.

The sconces are from Urban Archeology.

The towels are yucky old hand me downs that are SO getting replaced, asap.

Oh yeah, the toilet is a Toto, I forget which model.

    How's that for detail?

This was originally a small bedroom. We busted out the tiny 1971 window and put in the bay for the tub. We used 2/3's of the bedroom for the master bath, the other third is a new pantry which opens off the hall, just off the kitchen.

    Thanks again everyone!

I'm on the road right now, and using my dial up account, so I'll have to check them out when I get home tomorrow night. :-)

Sweet, indeed. Makes me think of tea roses ... Nice job and congratulations. Must feel great! Would love to see more pics in the future if you don't mind, with your shades and towels.

Wow! Elegant and inviting. Just looking at that tub makes me want to take a long soak ... oh, wait, I don't actually have a tub (yet!) Ah well, seeing your beutiful finished product reminds me that the construction does eventually stop, and that I may someday bath again. Congratulations!

    Gorgeous!!

I love everything but am especially gaga over that shower. Can you give dimensions please?

I am a complete new comer at showers (thought we would only have a tub until recently) and I'm wondering if you know how they did the base. Is it a purchased base and then tiled over? build a base from scratch and seal and tile?

Your wood floor is giving me hope for our reno. I love it.

    Thanks again everybody!

The shower is roughly 46" x 50" (including the threshold) and 8 ft high. DH made the shower and did all the tiling and grouting. He used Kerdi to line and waterproof the shower and made a custom mud shower pan. We originally wanted to use the ready made Kerdi shower pan, but nothin doin, the size of our shower was too wonky, and it had to be done custom.

I promise to post more pictures once we're more moved in and settled and aren't carrying ratty towels in from downstairs. :)

Ivette - Can you please post (or email me) pics of your shower ceiling, how it slopes, and how the glass meets the ceiling. Our steam shower is very similarly sized to yours (44x58) and our builder doesn't quite understand how to make the ceiling slope look clean with two glass walls (like yours). I think detailed pics of your shower will do the trick. I'd appreciate it. My email is tspullin at hotmail. Thanks!

Wow. I love it. I love the wood floor, the fixtures, everything.

It's very inspirational, given I might go for a wood floor in the 2nd floor bath, since there might be too much movement for marble. It's also great to see your shower! Ours will probably be very close in size, and seeing yours helps tremendously. (I'm a very visual person.)

Since your ceiling in the shower breaks at the middle and slopes to both sides (or that's how it looks to me), do you see a lot of condensation running down the front glass? I was planning to slope the whole thing back to the tile wall, but wondered how it was working for you.

How big is the room? Our 2nd floor bath is also a converted bedroom, but ours was converted in 1925, when they finally got indoor plumbing!

    Congrats!!!
    Always ;-)

following up on hunzi's question ... my builder (and apparently, the tile sub) thinks he's supposed to slope the shower ceiling away from the tile wall and to the glass. That makes no sense to me. Please explain what you did and why! Thank you.

Very nice, you must be thrilled to be DONE! :-)

Wow!! Just noticed this got revived. Thanks again for all the kind words. We've been using the bathroom regularly for three months now and it's really wonderful.

On the question of the shower, the ceiling does in fact slope on two sides and meets in the middle of the ceiling. I think we did it this way because Bill Vincent told us to. And well, you know, what he says goes.

I don't have pics of the shower ceiling specifically but there is a sort of header (or reverse threshold) at the top and that is what the glass attaches to. DH built the shower with durock, kerdied and tiled appropriately. It was not an easy job, and there is one spot at the top where one tile doesn't line up exactly right. But hey, it was his first shower and when the mistakes are your own, you can live with them better. :) He really did a beautiful job, especially considering how complicated this was. Hand made tile didn't help either!

Here's some more recent pics of the batroom, now that the roman shades are in. I had forgotten that I had promised to post these.

    http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/mom2bunky/album?.dir=e0f5re2&.src=ph&store=&prodid=&.done=http%3a//photos.yahoo.com/ph//my_photos

And here is another picture of the shower, you can clearly see the header at the top. The sloped ceiling runs up to the header and flush with the bottom of it, as if the header were the top of a wall. On the other side, the second slope runs down to the top of the wall. On the other two sides, you basiclaly have a triangle of tile that was oh so much fun to tile (not), but worth it.

No, there is no condensation on the glass from the slope. Yes, we DO get dripped on from time to time, but it's rare and the drops are hot, so it's totally no big deal.

Does that help? Let me know if you need REALLY specific pictures, and I"ll try to take some.

Hunzi, I forgot to answer your question.

This bedroom was split into thirds with one third going to a walk in pantry that is basically behind the shower wall. The other two thirds is approximately 8 X 10. DH added the bay window so we could have a tub. It's amazing what a few inches can do. This was the smallest of the three bedrooms on the main level.

Ivette - I shared your shower pictures and ceiling slope explanation to my builder and he wants to know what the grade of the slope is. Do you know?

As a compliment to your husband, please let him know that my builder suggested we hire whoever did your shower to come do ours. I don't suppose you guys want to come spend a weekend in Oklahoma?

Ivette--lovely bathroom! Can I ask for a review of the Barber Wilson hand held sprayers? I'm considering using their tub filler with hand sprayer on a bar as my shower/tub set, but I'm concerned if the hand held sprayer will be sufficient as a shower head. Is the sprayer adjustable at all, in terms of water pressure? It looks like a one-setting sort of sprayer to me....I'm not expecting multiple massage settings or anything, but I DO want to be able to rinse the shampoo out of my hair!

This is the one I'm considering....not the same model you have but I'm assuming all their hand sprayers are basically the same....

    Thanks in advance!

Another follow up question about your PERFECT bathroom! Where did you get the corner shelf in the shower?
    Thanks!

    Ivette,
I would LOVE to see pictures of your bathroom, but I get an error message when I use the link. I'm also using Architectonics from Waterworks in many of my bathrooms. I'm curious to see what kind of floor you've used! Thanks.

Pirula's photos were on Yahoo and they are no longer hosting photos. I just sent her an email asking if she would re-post the pics and she said yes, just as soon as she got them back on her hard drive.

Thank you, Pirula, we look forward to seeing your finished photos.

Oh wow! I'm so sorry, I didn't realize that there were follow up questions, I don't have alot of time to come and check in anymore.

I'm really flattered, I've been getting alot of emails ever since Yahoo Photos closed down. I had no idea people were still wanting to see my pictures! *blush*.

Okay well I opened a photobucket account and am trying to get the pics uploaded, so hopefully soon. In the meantime, some answer, I'm so sorry I missed these and hopefully I'm not too late:

The shelf units in the corner of our shower are not corner units. We just stuck them in the corners. Anyway, they're from Waterworks, they're "Crystal" collection, which I think is just the british Chezch and Speake, because they were even made in the UK. All I know is they're exquisite and super heavy. You'll need blocking behind the tiles for these.

I love the Barber Wilson's hand held shower. The pressure actually is adjustable depending on how much you open the water. We have very strong water pressure in our house, so it's absolutely adjustable. But that's about it. As to whether or not it would do as the sole shower, sure. It's a good size, and has great flow. The diameter is smaller than a regular shower of course, but it's not small either.

Good luck and pic soon hopefully.

I love your simple window treatments. Did you make them?

    Thanks!

No, they're roman shades from Smith and Noble. They did a good job. They're white linen.

    Pirula,
Thanks for re-posting your MB pics. DH would be envious of the steam shower, and I love the pedestal sink and claw foot tub. Very nice!

Hi Ivette, What a beautiful room! I love the bath and the bedroom. I was wondering what the wallpaper you used in the bedroom is?

Hi and thanks! I't's a Farrow & Ball paper. It's the Ringwold design. I really love it.
