Do I need a handshower?

I am re-doing a guest bathroom. I'm replacing the tub with a stall shower, which will not get that much use (it's the 3rd bathroom off of the office/2nd guestroom). The plans have been done for months, the fixtures have been ordered and suddenly my designer mentioned to me that I might want to get a handshower in addition to the fixed shower head I ordered. Do I need this for a shower that won't get much use? I kind of feel like it's an unnecessary added expense but I have never had one so I am second-guessing my gut instinct. If it were a shower that was going to get more use, I think it would be an easier choice. I just feel like the designer is suggesting adding all sorts of bells and whistles to this bathroom that probably my 3 and 5 year old nephews will be the only ones using.

Thanks in advance for comments!

If it's mainly for young kids and a guest bath (on a budget), I'd skip the fixed head and go for a slide bar shower that will perform better for short people. You can move it up and down to fit both tall and short people.

We reinforced our slide bar with wood blocks behind the wall. If it looks like a safety rail, it may be used as a safety rail.

I agree with GOLDDUST.

If it is not too late to cancel your fixed shower head, or the restocking fee isn't too bad, I would also skip it and get just a shower head on a wall bar. I have Hansgrohe, and I really like it. I like to be able to adjust the shower head up and down for my kids. I also like to take it off of the wall bar and use it to rinse them off or clean the shower. I've never missed having a fixed shower head.

Make sure that the bar is good and sturdy because people may grab it. I didn't realize that our bar is quite flimsy.

Why have manufacturers not seen that people will pay for a sturdy grab bar / slider bar for handshower head. (?) I asked around years ago and found none. Too late for my bathrooms.

I never realized how useful a hand held shower head would be. We have one now and I'll always have one in every bathroom. Very useful to massage the neck, etc while in the shower.
