It's a sideboard or buffet sometimes called a hunt board depending on how tall it is.
It appears to be a very lovely Hepplewhite styled flame mahagony piece. Top appears to have damage to the veneer but the rest looks very nice. It could be a really old piece ( not 18th century) or a 1930's repro...can't tell without seeing construction details.
But it's a very fine piece....and in the right market could easily be worth more than $1,000.

thanks for the help Linda! Good to know:)

Lovely piece ... the turnings on the top of the corners are very characteristic of the 1930's adaptations, as is the way the top was cut to include the rounded part.

The veneer can be fixed.

Around here, a nice repro like that sells for $500-2000 depending on condition. It's well worth fixing up.

Hi, I come on these forums alot from GW but rarely post.
I'd say if you do anything to repair it just repair the broken veneer. If you strip and restain and varnish it will ruin the value. It's a beautiful sideboard. I'd love to have one but don't have the room. My neice got our grandmothers antique dining room furniture because the grandchildren either didn't have room for it or have their own. It was offered to me first and I really hated to turn it down.

Enjoy it!

Nancy
