Which Master Bedroom Plans to pick??

So I need to make these changes a.s.a.p. but I NEED input to decide. We are building our entire house out of cement (ICF) so we can have plumbing pipes on the outer walls without worrying about them freezing.

In our last house I used to have a walk-in closet in my bedroom and I loved it. I really don't like the closets in the master bedroom on these plans, I hate that they take up a whole wall. I wish that I could find a way to make a walk-in closet instead. I am making the ensuite smaller as we don't want a bath and a shower in there. We will be putting in a walk-in shower instead of both. I will also be making the other bathroom bigger.

I haven't figured out where to place the door, bath, shower, toilet and vanity in the other bathroom so any suggestions there would also be greatly appreciated.

So do any of these plans make sense? Do you have any other ideas?

Thanks so much for any help you can offer!

Emma

I like Option 1 the best because you can still have a long vanity and a good size bathroom. Option 2 is o.k. but I would put pocket doors at the closet and entrance to the bathroom. Also in Option 2 you could probably fit a larger vanity. In the other options the bathrooms start to get small for a Master bath. It all depends on what is more important to you--closet size or a larger master bath.

I would say no to #5 because the entrance is very awkward. The only thing it gains you over option #3 is having just one doorway interrupting that wall instead of two.

I like #4, because the entrance is better situated, and there's room for an armoire or some other nice storage in the space opposite the door into the bathroom. In fact, if you don't mind walking through the closet to get to the bathroom, you could include that space in the closet, and make the doorway from bedroom to closet/bath area narrower, thus maximizing the bedroom wall space.

Try picking the plan you think you like best, and see if you can say what you wish it had, that one of the other plans has.

I like the original plan the best because 1) the closets against the wall act as an additional sound barrier to 2 bedroom 2 and 2)I envision it to be awkward for 2 people to access their clothes at the same time in the walk-in options with the exception of #2.

You also asked for help with the other bathroom. Here's a link to a Kohler site with many bathroom layouts. You could try #5 or #6 as a starting point.

The best layout and best door location for your house will depend on who will be the main users of the bathroom. Will it be three school-age kids, or an elderly relative who spends part of each year with you, or will it be used 90% of the time as a powder room for visitors, and for overnight guests a few times a year?

If it's mainly for use by residents of those two front bedrooms, I'd keep the door on the side where it is in the original plans. That way, they can go from bedroom to bathroom without going around the corner to the more public part of the house. And I'd use something like Kohler's plan #5, where one person could brush teeth, etc. while another was showering.

If it will be mostly used as a visitors' powder room, you might want the door to be in the wall that faces the door to bedroom #2, so that visitors stay more in the public area of the house, and don't travel so far into the bedroom area. Kohler's plan #6 lets you have sink & toilet available, and hide tub & shower from immediate view.

If you tell us more about who will live in the house and what's important to you, we can help you better with suggestions.

    Hope this helps.

For what it's worth, I think #1 is the best choice, but I would change the access to the closet. I would put a pocket door in the bathroom to enter the closet. This way you limit the number of doors you have in the bedroom.
