Decorated tables

Have all of you seen this site? Lots of fun things. I like her show not for the cooking but for her love of pink dishware and the things she makes. Enjoy browsing. Luvs

Luvs, Thanks for sharing the site. I just went to the site and am going back to look further. I've never seen her before though.

She's 'new' to me, but what a neat site to go thru. Thanks for sharing. I'm passing it on to my DD and DDIL.

Her show is on the Food channel. It's Sandra Lee's Semi Homemade, she was on right before Rachel Ray. I caught the end of the show today, she was doing a centerpiece with a hat stand, pink hat and lots of pink dishes with food on them--very nice. I plan to start recording her show so I can see her table arrangements--not really too interested in the cooking part--so I'll be able to fast forward if I want to. LOL

Luvs, I would love to see the centerpiece you described. It sounds just like something I would love to do.

Sandi, I thought of you when I saw it because of all the pink. ;o) It seems like she keeps things "doable" but still very pretty. Luvs

I catch her once in a while too. She seems to always include some type of alcoholic cocktails, which she seems to enjoy. Good idea in case the food isn't too good, no one will notice, LOL

You haven't lived until you've seen the nutcracker xmas show - the coup de grace was the christmas tree covered in barware. Stemware was hung with care - "they look like bells"... talk about coming up with an idea.....while on alcohol. Can you imagine your family's reaction? While all of it's on the tree, your're all drinking out of paper cups.

LOL, my family would be taking the glasses off the tree!!!
From Rachel Ray, who I know everyone loves, but gets me hyper, to Ina Garten who puts me to sleep she is so relaxed, and then the cocktail lady is ......quirky!!

Kathleen - we must be related!! I have family like that too. I don't watch Rachel Ray - she is way too hyper for me - makes me feel out of breath. I use to love Paula's Home Cooking but she has gotten so silly it embarrasses me that she is from the South. But I always check out Semi Homemade to see how they decorate the kitchen and what tablescape she comes up with - I don't like to cook so the recipes are wasted on me.

What amazes me is how these women stay so clean in the kitchen - my hubby is the cook around here - he cleans up as he goes. For me, he said the kitchen looks like a disaster area when I make breakfast, especially when all we are having is cereal LOL.

Morning ladies! My 10 year-old GD likes her(bought her the childrens cookbook for Christmas), but really LOVES Paula Dean, hyper or not! LOL I don't watch the cooking channel except when she's here. She has an aunt that teaches at a cooking school in San Francisco, and she's siged up to take a childrens cooking class this summer. *She'll* be doing the cooking when she visits this summer. LOL

Now if you really want hyper, let's talk Emmeril! I like the man and his style of cooking, but his 'BAM!!!' get's on my last nerve! LOL

And PF, don't you know they have people scurrying around behind the scenes with a Magic Eraser keeping the 'cook' clean?LOL ;o)

PF, what you lack in the kitchen you make up for with your beautiful art work!!
Paula??does her accent seem to get stronger and stronger with every new show? I like her, but I agree, she is getting a a little silly (deep fried butter, come on!). If we put Paula and Ina, aka known as The Barefoot Contessa together we might strike a happy medium. And then there is Giada who is soooo thin you KNOW she never swallows a thing she tastes!! Those of you who don't watch the FOOD network have no idea what I am talking about I know!!!

Kathleen, you are right. I know Paula is from Georgia and they seem to have a different accident but hers get a bit thick sometimes. I am a true Southerner and I hate it if someone over exaggerates the accent. Don't get me wrong, I love Paula and her cooking but last night on Paula's party she licked the chocolate off the corner of a man's mouth and then laughed that high silly laugh. I can only take so much of that.

What I like the most on that network is the food challenges, like decorating cakes and such. I decorate cakes - don't like to bake them - but decorating is like painting for me, just using a different method of application.

Patty - I know about "magic brushes" but never heard of the "magic eraser", gotta get one of those!! My hubby would be so happy. I think he volunteers to cook so he doesn't have to put up with my mess. For some reason I can only concentrate on one thing at a time and cooking requires more than that. Years ago I started frying chicken when my sister called me to the den because she needed help with an item I was teaching her to paint. I sat down to show her what to do and before you knew it, my kitchen was on fire - got new cabinets out of that one!! LOL

I agree, PF, Paula is gettING nuttier. She made oxtails recently, took a piece, bit it and then offered a guest the same piece. Gross...like brushing your teeth with someone's toothbrush. Guess they have to be cutesy to keep their viewers, there are SOOO many cooking shows now.
I like the challenges too. I find it nervewracking when they have to move those cakes though. I liked the cookie one too, very unique ideas! I do feel terible for them when their recipe flops in front of all those people. At least we can throw our mistakes out to the birds! Although years ago when I first started experimenting with different recipes for Irish Soda Bread, (yes, there are tons of them)) one turned out so Awful DH said he would report me to the Assn for Cruelty to Animals if I threw if out for the birds!!!

Katheleen, I couldn't agree more about that skinny 'Italian girl'! Guess i've watched a little more than I thought to know her and 'the countess'~of what? Do they ever show her feet?LOL Can't comment on Paula's exagerrated accent, but did notice her 'flirtatious nature'
when she called up a member from the audience. Think DD must have had her on when I was visiting last week for me to remember that!LOL

PF, the Magic Eracers can be found in the cleaning products, but I think they're more for scuff marks, counters, etc. I use something that looks like a pen. They make one for whites, and one for colors, and it could be a Tide product. I got mine at Target. ;o)

Patty, LOL it is the Barefoot Contessa... no feet showing!!! She used to have a shop of that name and a catering business in E. Hampton, near me. She closed the shop, and now has a mail order co. for all her products. She does make some nice things, and is very popular. You can check her books out on Amazon. But she is so calm, about everything. Drop eggs all over the floor???, no prob.... call the dog in to lick it up. Kidding, but after Rachel Ray, you will absolutely fall asleep!

This was fun reading all your "feelings" about these cooking mavens--I'm not endorsing any of them--usually only surf past the channel. This one just caught my eye because of all the pink dishes and she was doing a table arrangement. Like I said, I plan to tape some of her shows so I can just fast forward through most of the food parts--I wanna see how she decorates the tables! ;o) Luvs

luvs, sometimes I catch her show. Generally the actual kitchen she works in is decorated to fit the theme of what she is doing that day, and at the end she usually has some nice table set ups. I like to tape the shows too to see what she/Sandra has decorated with. I will watch the other cooks shows if I see something interesting that they are cooking.

I've got my recorder set for a couple of days worth to see how I like it. I sort of enjoy that Embellish This show that is on HGTV I think. I've only caught it a couple of times. Guess I should look it up to see what times it comes on and maybe tape a couple of those too. Hard to find time to watch too many though! That's because I'm on here a least twice a day! Ha ha Luvs

Luvs, only TWICE a day??LOL Another of those, it's not quantity, but quality things, huh? LOL ;o)

Patty, I do TRY to get a few things done around here--once in awhile! ;o) I love to get on here and see what's going on--but the few minutes I meant to look can easily turn into a couple hours if I am not careful. ;o) Luvs

I watched two of these shows yesterday, Talk about using accessories--they change the set to match the "theme" of the food for the show. One was about lemons, so curtain, glassware items, plates, etc. even the hosts shirt had lots of lemons or lemon yellow on them. Tablesetting was pretty, huge glass jar dispenser full of lemon aide was part of the centerpiece. The second one was a chocolate theme, all the above items were changed out to chocolate brown and white. It was set up buffet style with pieces of cake, fruit, and marshmallows for dipping into the centerpiece--which was one of those chocolate fountains with the chocolate flowing down it! I liked seeing all of the above things, but she has to hurry so fast to do three items plus a drink in such a short time! I felt tired when it was over! Ha ha Luvs

Luvs, I think it's a good thing that we don't get those cooking shows. I would never get anything done if I watched those. ;~) They both sound very interesting though so I really am sorry I don't get to see any. I don't like the rushing they have to do either especially when it's something I really want to see.

Sandi, I think you have to order a special grouping of channels to get the cooking shows~I watched them with GD while in Wilmington, so know they're available. Get on-line and check your service provider. It *should* give the different listing, and the channels they include.

I remember when Discovery Home was just a part of the Discovery Channel, now they're all separate, and all I get is the basic Discovery~bummer. ;o)

Patty, my food channel is part of the basic package but Discovery Home is an additional package. I thought it would be a channel with a lot of extra home type shows but it turns out to have a lot of reruns from the regular Discovery Channel. Like the Christopher Lowell shows, they were all reruns and the DIY channel which is extra runs Carol Duvall reruns also. Wish they would come up with some different shows, getting a bit tired of the same old thing.
