Bathroom layout help

The kitchen is more or less finished so now it is on the the bathroom

Here is the basic layout with the location of current plumbing noted. I do not intend to move plumbing.

It is divided into two areas. From the master bedroom, you walk through a cased opening into an area with a very small vanity. Then through a door to the long narrow room that has the shower and the toilet.

There is no linen storage anywhere. Right now I have the towels on an old cheap bookcase between the toilet and the door. I would like a linen cabinet like this one, except I would replace the glass with mirrors:

We are going to remove the tub and replace it with a large shower stall.

Right now the sink is in the middle of the vanity. Do any of you have any thoughts on shifting the sink to one side and putting storage on the other?

Any other help, advice, observations? TIA

Could you get rid of the wall to the right of the vanity between the two parts of the bathroom?

Pal, I've thought about getting rid of that wall and extending vanity around the corner. Similar to this picture but with a sink on each side:

But I really like that DH can be in one room of the bathroom and I can be in the other with a door in between. (Sometimes you just gotta have a door!) What do you think about widening the door opening and installing a pocket door? Do you think that would make it feel more open?

I am very torn about how to get the most out of this space. Currently it feels very crowded. I had the handyman install a curved shower rod. I didn't give him any instructions; just handed him the box. Bless his heart, he installed it where it really juts out into the room.

Right now it is very dark. There is no window in either part. I've considered a solar tube, but I think it may be best to install something like that when we re-roof.

What about moving the cased opening to the north, knocking down the wall dividing the sink from the rest of the bath, and putting a L-O-N-G vanity on the south wall? That seems like a much better use of the space.

I'd also consider putting a half wall next to the toilet, for some privacy and to put a towel bar on.

Weedy, good idea! Except the wall you are talking about is an outside wall. My plumber tells me that he can't put plumbing on that wall because of the thickness of the foundation or something like that (actually what he said was along the lines of "well, I can do it but I can't tell you how much it would cost." "I can't tell you how much it would cost," sounds like a blank check for his kid's college tuition!). I have checked with an architect friend and he agreed it could be difficult. This house is on a slab and apparently it can be quite thick at the edges and very difficult and costly to put in new plumbing on outside walls.

The areas to the north of the existing sink and to the south of the tub are closets. I have thought about expanding into them, but this house has such a dearth of closets that I really can't afford to give them up.
