Suggestions, Please

I got this original advertisement from an 1880 magazine a year or so ago.

I am at a loss as how to have it framed...

Small mat with wide gold-tone frame...

large mat with narrow gold-tone frame...

Leaning towards large mat (possibly double or triple mat) with wide ornate gold-tone frame.

It measures approximately 10.25 x 7.75 inches.

Suggestions?

Thanks.

    Lovely print.
I really think you will come to that decision once you bring it in for custom Matting/Framing.
They will show you different looks that will fit best for the overall size of the print. First determine the matting choices..size/color/double/single, etc. Then go for the frame..Depending on the overall mat size, you can then determine the size and width of the frame. Then, of course, the color tone of the frame that fits best with the overall look.
What you should keep in mind, is not to select a frame that is too heavy and overpowers the print.
So, I think it's important to bring the print in, so you can actually see the selections available that fits best.

Good luck, and please show us the end results.

Hey, doesn't that print match your dish collection? Very nice. I can't advise you on framing--I have no expertise in that area at all. I'm sure you will find just the right one. Luvs

That's a wonderful old picture and will great matted and framed. Jane is right, take it with you and try different mats and frames to be sure what looks best.

Nice print, Wanda! I agree with Jane's advice, don't allow the frame to overwhelm the print. The main focus should be on it, not the frame. The people in the framing department/store will be able to help you decide when you get there, as to the best frame for the pic.
And when it comes to matting, I always lean towards a double mat. With your print, I'd think a narrow inner mat might work best.
Don't forget to show it to us once it's framed and hung!

I have some suggestions to consider, WRH...before you get this framed, I suggest you scan it & save it for projects...i.e., print it on those 8-l/2 x 11" cloth fabric sheets you can get many places (like Walmart or Hobby Lobby)...you could make a quilted placemat or special potholder or something.

Or you could also print the scanned image on what I call Mylar (clear sheets like for overhead projectors)...available about anywhere, also...and then you could use these to create placecards or special menus.

Just brainstorming...cause I love your old ad print! Jeanne S.

    Thanks to all of y'all.

    Luvs,
Yes, this is the same as my china.

    Jeanne,
    What fabulous ideas!!
    I will definitely scan it.
    Keep brainstorming...

I'm going to take it to Hobby Lobby when they have their next 1/2 off framing sale.
I'll show y'all the finished project.

Very pretty original print, Wanda, and goes so well with your collection. I agree with others to keep your options open til you see what the framer recommends. They give several choices and it's fun to see how it changes the look.

Jeanne, that is a brilliant idea which I will have to use! Thanks!
