How about penny rounds? You can search for penny rounds and on bing.com and get lots of images of bathrooms with penny round tile. the penny rounds would still give you that old world look, but would be something a little different than octagon and dot.

I really do not need only vintage, just something not too modern.

Maybe basketweave? I see that a lot with white subway tiles. It is pretty timeless.

What about a large linen textured tile? An oversized tile might look odd in a small space, but it also might help to have fewer grout lines since you will have a lot on the walls.

You would only need 2 boxes to cover the floor and it might look really nice laid on the diagonal in either blanc, creme or gris.

Dedtired: Like your handle, that is how I feel after looking again all day at tiles. Not liking basekweave.
Brickton: Cool, I actually saw those linen ones today.
But after looking today I am thinking of this bricklayed tile mosaic in either Oro Miele or Terra Marrone color
