I use a sheet of paper towel in place of the swiffer cloth. The Bounty brand seems to have some sort of static cling that holds the dirt.

I wash the swifer cloths in the washing machine. I get at least 6 washes out of each cloth.
To use them, I spray with hardwood floor cleaner. I prefer that to the swifer wet mops which I think are too wet and streaky.

Whatever you do don't spray pledge or other furniture sprays on it. Your floor will be like a skating rink!!

A couple of things..Walmart sells their own brand of Swiffer cloths cheaper than the real Swiffer cloths...or try the paper towel and lightly spray small areas with water from an atomizer spray bottle so you don't get big drops, that should be just enough to hold the dust down and make it cling to a rag or paper towel.

Also try the microfiber cloths - they work great and are re-usable. I use them dry on hardwood floors, or damp if I need to get out spots, and wet in the bathroom and laundry room floors.

I also use microfiber cloths and toss in the wash when done. Costco has large packages of yellow ones in the automotive section.
