help picking out a shower trim

hi,

we decided to go with this schon/belle foret mainz faucet:

http://www.faucetcollections.com/productinfo.aspx?productid=L425-SN

hubby LOOOOOVES it. we'll have rectangular undermount sinks with chocolate (not as dark as espresso, i think) brown cabinet w/shaker doors.

only problem is that the delta arzo shower trim i originally picked out does not have a valve that has the capacity for running both the handheld and fixed showerhead simultaneously. so i now have the hansgrohe thermobalance III valve and have to pick a trim. none of which match perfecly, so which do you like better, the metris (1st) or talis (2nd) or do you have a better suggestion? all the fixtures will be in brushed nickel. thanks!

Of those two, the Metris. Neither one really match the squareness of the Schon. Are both faucets really visible to the room at the same time?

yeah, they are, unfortunately. there's this one that i'm trying to talk him into that i think would match the metris ok: http://www.qualitybath.com/product~name~Latoscana+86CR211WF~ID~82721.htm?utm_source=froogle&utm_medium=201103&utm_campaign=Latoscana

but i doubt he'll go for it. i'm crossing my fingers. any other thoughts?

JMHO, but I don't like the faucet you just linked. Have you already bought the Hansgrohe valve?

Have you seen this from the Arzo collection? It seems to me that this will run either the shower head OR hand held OR both. I was looking at Delta's roman tub fillers when I came across this.

Hey there jimnyo! Your posts have been helping me out, as we seem to be doing the same things at the same time. :) I decided on the Metris for myself, because when I tried them in the store I thought that one had the best mix of ease of use and looks. The talis has those little bitty sticks that you use to turn it. I just didn't like that. And I'm only 27, so it's not like I have any special difficulty turning things. :P

I actually liked your first faucet better to go with the shower trims, because it doesn't match the shape exactly but it does match the modern feeling somewhat.

It's tough, isn't it? I'm having a brutal time matching things up. I was looking at the Focus S single hole faucet for my sink, but don't like the way it feels...would rather have a mini-widespread, but I can't find any that really match. Poo.

thank you all for your honesty. and therenee, thank you especially for your feedback, b/c it's nice to know i'm not alone in this.

yes, breezygirl, i think the plumber already installed the valve. thanks for finding the arzo diverter, but the additional factor was that hubby didn't want another hole in the wall, and the HG valve trims have two handles in one and the whole shebang controls the volume, temperature and diverter. i do have to have one other hole for the handheld supply and he wasn't happy about that, so he was insistent we not have a third hole for a separate diverter.

anyway, back to therenee...the other thing is that hubby REALLY wants a open channel faucet. i really want a single handle (i'm not old either, just lazy, ha ha). the talis c line has one, which would go with the talis s trim, but we both didn't love the faucet. at this point, i'm kind of feeling like we should get what we love in the shower trim and the faucet even if they don't match, just as long as they're similar in feel (i.e. not super victorian and a contemporary). if i have to stare at it everyday, i want to love it.

there is this la toscana faucet i linked below, which i think actually would go with the metris trim, but it's significantly more money (as was the talis c) and i'm not sure he'll go for it. tell me what you think (the brushed nickel finish looks way different than the HG brushed nickel finish too). at the very least, it may be helpful to you if you decide to stick w/the metris...

lastly, i'm thinking if i got a square showerhead that it might help bridge the gap between the squared faucet and the round trim base and handles. at least there are some straight lines in the handles, right? what do you think?

Picking faucets that match everything in a bathroom is hard. I've lost so many hours of sleep over the past year researching them for my new master bath (shower, soaking tub, and lav) that I'm sick to death of them. I just need to make a decision too. I decided just this morning that there are more important things in life than stupid faucets! ;) And this decision for me is holding up about 4,527 more decisions I have to make for the whole house reno.

I don't mind the Talis C faucet. It would work with the trim.

I still don't like that Toscana faucet. I like the Schon better. Here's one by Delta that might work at about the same price point as the Schon. I'm not sure how their brushed nickel compares, but it might be an alternative. I guess you'd have to go to a store with faucets to see what Delta's finish looks like.

As a side note, are you worried about the cleaning aspect of the waterfall open channel faucet? I'm not sure if it would get dirty in the channel. I'm fascinated by the look of them but I wonder about cleaning. Definetly not a criticism though.

A square shower head might tie in the square faucet.

Go with what you love and to heck with it if they don't match exactly. I bet no one will ever walk into your bathroom and point out that they don't match.

that is so how i feel about this! it's hard to feel justified in spending so much time deciding about faucets when japanese earthquakes and other life-altering events are going on around you.

anyway, thanks for the delta link. we saw that one, but it was a little TOO angular for both of us. i had been told to watch out w/the cleaning, but i figure, well, at least i can see it happening before it gets too gross and hopefully a little vinegar will take care of it right away. we'll see...haha. thanks for your help!

This is funny - I'm also choosing between Talis and Metris trims for my shower, and I'm leaning toward the Talis because I like the little sticks; Metris seems too flat to me. (I also considered Kohler Stillness.)

I'm not matching my shower trim to my vanity faucets. I don't think that you have to as long as you stay in the same style. I'm doing Kohler Oblo in the shower and Hansgrohe Metris C on the vanity. The 2 work together just not matchy-matchy.
