Nilfisk vacuums?

Anyone ever heard of Nilfisk brand vacuums?

http://www.pa.nilfisk-advance.com/index.html

This one intrigues me. The specs on it look pretty decent, in the same class as the Sebo canisters I've been looking at, except much quieter. (Looks like that comes at the expense of much lower rated CFM, though. How standardized are the tests of this?)

Do you really need the ruggedness that this one offers? Looks like a lot of money for a pretty basic vac (in terms of attachments, ease of use, etc.) If you've looked at Sebo, you've probably looked at Miele also. But I'd urge you at least consider the Miele line if you're doing mixed household vacuuming. You'll find a lot of satisfied Miele owners on this forum (myself included). And you mentioned quiet; Mieles are quiet. I believe my mid-line Miele is 1200 watts, don't have the other specs in front of me.

Well, what I need from a vacuum is something like

    1. performance (suction)
    2. robustness (longevity)
    3. quietness
    4. a long cord

I know I didn't state the following -- I did say some of it in another post about Sebos, and didn't think to repeat it here...

We have only hard-surface floors in this house; no carpet or rugs that can't be shaken out and machine-washed. I don't use an upholstery attachment. On the Electrolux we have now, the hard-surface attachment is on all the time, except when I pull it off to vacuum against baseboards or in tight corners.

So, if the Nilfisk costs less than a Sebo or Miele, and is quieter, I don't mind that it's a bit industrial.

Just curious if anyone here has actually used one. I'm leery of buying an uncommon brand without some feedback!

The Nilfisk will clean in your situation. There is not too much required for floors. This is not going to be a small vacuum cleaner. This is going to be alittle bit more "bulky" compared to your Electrolux tank. It will be harder to use on the stairs compared to the Electrolux. The vacuum in question will turn alittle easier, since it does not have the length of your Electrolux tank vacuum.

This vacuum cleaner is also known as the Kent/Euroclean, Clarke, Pullman-Holt

We have used them in industrial situations for picking up and holding lead dust when doing abatement work. They have hepa filters that can be used and they work very well. May not be the same model but the brand is well known.

    Hope this helps.

Hey I ran across this while searching about Sebo Vacs. In case you're still wondering...Nilfisk is a Danish brand (made in Denmark I believe). I remember a large Nilfisk store near my apartment in Copenhagen. They make lots of cute little family canisters etc. but it seems those don't come to the US...just the big industrial ones. If you're curious you can see all the vacs that you can't buy on their website...click on Produkter sp?

I think I'm going to go for the Sebo C3.1 since my local vac store has it for $750 and it seems to have all the quality and features that I'd find in a $1200 Miele.

I bought a nilfisk vac after being diagnosed with severe asthma in the 1980s. I am still using the same vac. It is incredible. I had a top of the line Sears vac at the time. The nilfisk was recommended by my allergist. We removed all the curtains in the house, had no carpet (wood and tile floors), and did all the things recommended by the doctor. I became symptom free without meds after a couple of years. Mine is very old and my attachments have literally worn out. I'm on line trying to find the attachments for my vac. If I don't find them, then I'll order a new nilfisk. You won't find it rated in Consumer Reports because it's considered a specialty vac. It allows no escape for particles being vacuumed. I vacuum lamp shades with a special attachment as well as the walls. I've had such good luck with it that I'm actually afraid to change brands.

Just my thoughts...Out of a possible 10 rating, I'd give it an 11.

PS They're so good they're used to clean indoor shooting ranges.
