Sconce over vent stack?

I am down to the studs now and can see how the wall is constructed. The opening where I would put a medicine cabinet is adjacent to the opening up which the vent stack runs. Any reason I can't run electrical into that vent stack opening and have a sconce there? Or should I just stick with above-the-medicine-cabinet light.

As long as you/electrician can get wire and blocking in there for the elect. box for the light - WITHOUT puncturing the vent pipe- it's fine.

Thanks! I think the blocking might be a problem but it won't be the end of the world to do an over-mirror light instead of sconces.

Unless you've got thin walls and a large vent you should be able to fit a 1x4 or 1x6 block to fit the elec. box to. There are also some boxes on metal struts that don't take up much room in the wall.
