Idea for Spring luncheon

This was another idea in my Romantic Country mag. Spring luncheon with rose shaped cakes, and fruit served from bowls set inside large roses. Not the best at pictures and can't figure out how to shut the flash off, so bear with the quality--at least you can get the idea. Luvs

Ohh, that's pretty, Luvs. Has anyone ever eaten one of those cakes baked in the rose shape pan? They are so pretty, but I wonder if the "petals" would dry out and not be tasty? I started to buy a set of the individual pans, but chickened out.

Hmm, I rotated the pics on Photobucket, but they still came out sideways here. Sorry about that.

Hi, I think they pour the powdered sugar glaze over the cakes and that seals the cake. Would be sort of like and an old fashioned donut. Luvs

Oh, okay, that makes sense. They sure are pretty.

Luvs, I have that same issue. I have made a pound cake with the little rose pans and the large pan, make sure you grease the pan well, otherwise they will stick.

I have a funky shaped bundt pan from W-S, which I love but always one part of the cake would break off.

My new favorite kitchen item, and i'm not a product pusher, but this works amazingly, is the pam with flour.

My cakes just slide out of the pan now. No more disguising the broken bits with powdered sugar!

Hi Laurenk, thanks for the tip!
I just got a King Arthur flour catalog. It has a mold for mini wedding cakes. They are adorable, so nice for a shower or brides lunch. Judith, did you see those?

Lauren, thanks for letting us know about the Pam with flour. I know what you mean about disguising with powdered sugar! I started using parchment paper in all the flat pans and I'm very pleased with it. Of course that doesn't help with the bundt cakes or molds. I'll have to try your tip.

Hi Laurenk, have we welcomed you to the forum? I have a hard time keeping up on everyone sometimes. If not yet, please consider yourself welcomed, and I hope you will join us often. I haven't tried the new Pam yet--good to know it works well in the bundt pans. Luvs

Hi Laurenk, welcome, and thanks for the tip.
Kathleen, I have seen those mini cake pans, I usually just do a sheet cake and use a round cutter in two different sizes and stack them to make the mini cakes, but thanks for looking out for me!

Very pretty ideas Luvs. I've never heard of the rose shape can pans. Where have I been? I didn't know about the new Pam either. LOL Where are the rose cake pans available in local stores?

Sandi, a lot of stores have them..Pfaltzgraff, Wm Sonoma, Target maybe...
Judith, you are so clever, I never thought of that! And then you could make a trifle with the pieces left over from the cut outs..or just eat them!
I have a whole set of round cutters, I must try it!

Sandi, Penney's has them in their catalog, I don't know about in the stores. I saw the individual ones on sale someplace not too long ago. I will try to remember where -- maybe KMart or WalMart. The individual ones I've seen are like a muffin tin with six cakes.

Kathleen and Lee, Thank you for telling me where the rose cake pans are. I'll have to find some. Kathleen, I have a set of the small wedding cake pans. They aren't individual serving sizes though. And I think they are 4 or 5 layers high. I haven't used them in years.

Think hard, Lee. I never thought of Walmart. They are expensive in the King Arthur Flour cat. Walmart is prob cheaper.
Sandi, I think I have the reg ones too, and like you haven't used them in years. I thought it might be fun for dgd to make the little ones, you know how they like to play bride...could do a little tea party wedding or something!

Sandi, the little wedding cake pans sound cute. You are creative. I bet you could come up with a way to decorate a table with one.

Kathleen, please don't make me think hard. It makes my head hurt! LOL I think the little rose pans are kind of expensive at any store. Wish I could remember where they were on sale. I think I was only at K and Wall Mart that day, but who knows. That would be a great thrift store or gs find.
