My bathtub has not been coming clean with normal cleaning products, so I decided to try oven cleaner. Here is what I learned and some tips:

- If you have been running water, dry the tub before you start so the product isn't diluted.
- Remove the chrome strainer to the drain so that it isn't damaged.
- You need to apply the oven cleaner heavily; you will probably use the entire can to cover the tub.
- Leave it on for 2 to 2.5 hours. In my first try, I only left it on for 30 minutes and it didn't work.
- After the standing period, scrub the tub with a plastic scrubby before rinsing.

This is the product I used. This was an old can of oven cleaner that was left in my house when I bought it five years ago, so the label may be different now.

I applied it only to one side since I was testing the product.
