Hard to tell from the pictures. Is it rough feeling? If so it could be etched.

It’s not rough. I tried washing with mild soap and water and it won’t come off, it looks cloudy.

Its etching/patina. Happens with all genuine Marble and will continue to happen with most caustic cleaning prducts, makeup remover, toothpaste, etc., etc.. Only way to remove it is to have a marble restorer refinish the tile.

Perhaps your flooring was sealed. That happens quite often with marble floors. There are lots of different types of sealers out there, some very thin and some very thick when applied.

Start by using the cleaner recommended by the tile shop but if that doesn't work you may need to strip your flooring and then apply a protective sealer.

Yes the floors were professionally sealed during installation one year ago . I think I solved the mystery. My house cleaner said she used a bona mop intended for hardwood floors to clean the tile. I looked up the active ingredients and citric acid is listed, I’m thinking that may have caused the etching and dulling surface.

A cleaner is not going to make etching go away. Sealing also does not prevent etching. The citric acid in the Bona basically ate away at the marble.

You need to repolish to fix the etch. Is the cleaning company insured? If so you can claim damage. I have used a tin oxide slurry to polish small etches on my twenty year old counters it does not erase them but it blends them in better. Might be worth a try if it is just a few tiles.

I don't think there is any etching of the material. I believe the Bona had a chemical reaction with the sealer and made it lift and bubble.

IMO the sealer needs to be stripped off and reapplied Frankly, years ago people often stripped the wax off their vinyl floors and reapplied it yearly. It's not difficult because the chemicals do most of the work. It's just time consuming.

These are all subjective opinions but it looks like the finish lifted.

Etched is often indicated by missing or finish slightly rough, like when you place a glass of orange juice or pickles on a marble countertop.
