May decor

I think I goofed and posted about May Decor on the Bunnied Out post instead of starting a new one. But don't want to repeat it in case you're not supposed to do that. So maybe some of you can jump down to that post and comment on my question.

Thanks, Karen

    Karen,

My thought is decorate however you want to for the month of May. If you want to do patriotic then I don't see why not. I haven't decided what to use yet. I may not decorate my stacking plates again until summer.

I agree. I usually do my patrioic decor on the 4th or leading up to the 4th of July
I have to decide too about May!!

Karen, not sure what I'll do for May! Sheesh, I'm worn out from this Easter one! LOL!! I may do the fruit place setting with some apples or something. Remebered I had some really pretty ceramic pears & sold them in my garage sale last year! UGH!!!! I also have a silk lily of the valley plant & that would be nice for May too, will have to play around after I put all the Easter away & see what I come up with! I'm sure we'll all be busy doing a spring one after this & I'll be anxious to see everyones ideas too.

I have some really pretty things for summer so can't wait to use them, got them on vacation last year and wanted to use them on my table but had no idea that I'd really need them for tablescapes!!

I had planned to do my stacking plates, per Judith's suggestion, with small roosters and fruit and stuff like that. Sort of spring and summer combo and just leave them that way next few months. I was surprised tho at the patriotic decor in Michaels yesterday, don't recall seeing it before July before. Probably never paid attention since I wasn't into all this last year. I think I'll just do some red, white, and blue on the porch tho for May. Especially with my grandson in Iraq now and already have a tree out front with some of that decor for him. I bought a pot with flowers in red, white, blue at Big Lots. And at Michaels got a dangly with patriotic stars. I even had a bandana for Stoney, he wore last July. LOL. So think I'll just do that decor for the porch and not inside. Got some fruit for the stacked plates, still need to get the flowers like Judith suggested. Thank goodness for her help in stuff, sometimes I'm a fish out of water with this decor business.

We had one week of Spring weather and now we are back in winter...lol
I think I will try for April and May a few more spring like looks...I have a few pieces of Pfaltzgraff Vienna floral dishes I am playing around with for a breakfast table...which will be in pastel colors...and I also think when the daffodils are blooming here (if they didn't all freeze to death) I won't to use my white mikasa dishes and yellow for another spring look...
Like some others more towards summer I want to play with a rooster/tuscan table and add grapes and other fruit...
The patrioc theme I think I will take outside for a patio table...and then the summer looks I have in mind are a beach/seaside/seeshell theme and tropical theme...and I may take those looks outside as well...I think yellow can go with a 'lemonade/lemon' theme too that would look nice for summer...the possibilities are endless...:)
My stackingplates will take a break for a while...I may incorporate them in some of the table centerpieces in some way instead...

I think for the month of April and May I'll probably stick with white & pastel pinks, greens and yellows in different mixes. I will probably put my stacking plates away until June and just do the table.

Yachter, I guess from now on we all have to remember that we don't SELL at yard sales, we BUY at yard sales. LOL Your fruit place setting will be very pretty with whatever you put with it.

Karen, It sounds like you are already off to a good start with a patriotic theme. And your grandson in Iraq has my thanks and blessings. I haven't found any fruits or veggies except some hot peppers that I really like so far. I love the veggies on Yachter's Easter table. And I haven't looked for any small roosters yet, but I will.

Tamgypsy, We've had daffodils blooming for a couple of weeks now and some of my Iris have been blooming for about a week and then last night a freeze. Chill factor in the low 20s this morning so I'm sure I've lost quite a bit. I can't wait to see your's and Karen's rooster/tuscan theme. And your white and yellow theme sounds so pretty. I wish I had kept my Easter to move white and yellow.

I am too tired to think about it! Spring stuff minus the bunnies stays till mid May. Then into the summer mode. I do have some patriotic stuff for Mem Day, Flag Day and of course July 4th. Once all the pollen comes down and makes everything yellow/green, I will be doing the porch, and it is beachy stuff. can't wait!

Here is a pic of one of my Memorial Day front porches
I'll also post the 4th of July porch decor which is not much different.

Minnie, I love your Memorial Day and 4th decorations on your porch. They look great.

Thanks. I change out my flowers on the railing many times during the year. I keep them, most of the time, in the styrofoam and just pop the new ones in the pots.

Love your porch Minnie. What a nice way to celebrate for the seasons.

You are all talking about fruits and vegetables, and it reminded me that I had seen some glass veggies at the 99 cent store last week. They looked really nice, but I couldn't think how I could use them. Can you believe I didn't even think about stacked plates? I loved the veggies that Yachter used too.

All of you are coming up with some really great ideas. I'll give it some more thought after I get the Easter ones put away.

Luvs can't wait until tomorrow when I box up all the Easter stuff again and mark my boxes with "Used in 2007"
I know there is one more somewhere that didn't get opened this year. Also cleaning out some old stuff to sell.

Minnie, your porch looks so nice and patriotic. You have a great area to work with.

Luvs, the glass veggies sound really cute. I haven't seen anything like that at the dollar stores.

Well I guess I will have to go back and buy some of those veggies. I know there was several different ones. I'll post a pic after I get it--then you can all give me ideas of what to do with it! Ha ha

Didn't Yachter tell us she found some of her's at Kirkland's. I have one of those close by, but parking is sometimes difficult. Maybe I can get over there this week.

Also, I saw some really gorgeous glass grapes (small clusters) at Michael's last week. They were $2.99 each and really pretty colors. I remember thinking they would look good on stacked plates--but I was on a discounted Easter item hunt at the time.

Luvs, I saw the glass grapes at Michael's last week also and loved them. And I know Yachter said some of her veggies came from Joann's.

Luvs, saw those grapes too and bought two different colored bunches of them. They are really pretty.
Sandi, thank you for comments on GS. I worry so about Geoffrey being in Iraq. I want ALL our troops home ASAP.
Minnie, I love your porch, what a great place to decorate.
and your patriotic decor on it was lovely.
Tam, we also had one week of Spring. But then we dove into the 90s heat. I'm sorry for all the really cold temps and danger to new plants some of you are dealing with tho. Wish Spring would last longer for all of us.
I probably won't do Spring decor since Easter mostly covered that for me. Summer already starting in Phx, and also I'm not really a pastel person. Have enjoyed my Easter stuff but now can't wait to pack it up tomorrow and move on. LOL. My stacking plates are my kitchen table centerpiece so need to get started on the rooster theme with them I think. Need to hit Dollar Store I guess and see about any glass fruit or whatever there. Spending my money again, Luvs?

    Karen

So sorry Karen--but I thought I was spending MINE! LOL Hey, at least it is not from a high end expensive store, right? ;o)

Aren't those grapes pretty? Bet they would really sparkle on the stacked plates. Guess I need to buy some of those too--although I had already bought the other kind.

Sandi, post us a pic of the veggies from Joanne's please. Need to see if I need to drive all the way down there this week. ;o)

I am living with the Spring/Easter stuff for now. I am burned out from all of the past week's events and just don't feel like taking it all apart. Also, it hasn't gotten on my last nerve yet:)

With regard to May - "Springy" for Mother's Day. I decorate red, white and blue starting Memorial Day weekend and leave it in place until Labor Day.

What about celebrating the beginning of the season with May Day? I don't think it even makes a blip on the radar screen any more, though. I have seen old pictures of kids around the May Pole.

Labmomma, I like your plan of Memorial Day to Labor Day. I think I'll borrow that for my front porch. Tho with GS tree decorated and we always have a flag out too, not hard to add a few more touches. His tree has a yellow ribbon of course, a metal flag that is a yard stake, red-wh-blue star dangly, and I even found a patriotic birdhouse for the tree. Its in my yard album on photo bucket as I posted it on GJ last year.
Gosh, "May Day" and the May Pole. I haven't thought of that in years. It was a big deal when I was a child but I think you're right, hi2, not even a blip now it seems.
Another trip down Memory Lane tho, thank you.

Luvs, The bananas and grapes are rubbery ($1 each), but the peppers and carrots (50 cents each) are something totally different like an actual dried pepper. Very thin. You have to pick through them because where they placed the sticker can pull the "skin" off and leave white spots. The bananas don't look that great to me, but the grapes look better in person. The banana peppers are the best.

Hi2all, Almost 50 yrs ago we worked all week in school getting ready for May Day. We used crepe paper to make the streamers and decorated the tether ball pole for May Day. And we practiced and practiced and on May Day, it stormed. I was so disappointed. I remember this so well because it was the only time during all my years of school that we were actually going to "Dance Around the May Pole"

Oh, Sandi, I really like those. Great prices too--guess I will have to see if I can get to Joanne's this week too. Never know when I might NEED them for an arrangement. Love the pretty colors of them. Thanks for showing me what I am missing out on. LOL

Sandi, I really like the fruit and veggies you found. I think the peppers and carrot are my favorites. Did they all come from the same place?

I'm sorry about the storm knocking out your May Day celebration long ago. It was always so disappointing when the weather would turn bad and we wouldn't get to do something special. Nothing was ever postponed, either. If it didn't happen when it was scheduled, it didn't happen at all.

I guess we could have our own May Day party sometime. I never got to go around the May Pole, either.

Luvs and Hi2all, All of the veggies and fruits in the pic came from Joanns. They had other varieties, but I only got what I posted in the pic although 3 of each of most of them.

We actually do a Maypole....we have a raft of little GD's/GGD's so we have a tea party and wrap the laundry pole with ribbon...they get to dress up and come to Grandmommie and Pa's house with NO PARENTS!!!! It's really fun and they are appropriately spoiled while visiting!!! Maybe I can figure out a table sized version for a centerpiece.

Jaybird, How fun it must be for all the little grands to come for May Day and actually dance around the May Pole. And a tea party also. I think that is just very special. And a table top version of a May Pole would be perfect for a centerpiece. They must think Grandmommie and Pa are super special.

Jaybird, that's the things that memories are made of. Those little ones will always remember those fun times with you. ;o)
