We have open cabinets or shelving for toiletries, cosmetics, etc, in our master bathroom. We're building a new house and I'd like to do something similar there, so I plan to take pictures for our eventual builder. I'd send you pictures, but I've not yet learned how to post pictures here. If you can give me instructions, then tomorrow I'll take pix and send. I loved the convenience. I had shallow shelves to the left of my vanity. I did this purposefully, so that bottles etc. wouldn't get "lost" or hidden behind one another. But my husband had deeper shelves on his side. Both of us liked these and plan to repeat the look.

I like the look, but I know I personally wouldn't bother keeping them handsomely arranged and dust free.

Our shelves are tucked away so that they are really not totally in view, when you just walk in or peek in the door. No one but us ever really uses the bathroom, anyway; we have a powder room for guests who are here for visiting, dinner, etc.. And guest rooms for overnight visitors and guest bathrooms, etc. My husband is very tidy and keeps his stuff nicely arranged. I figure I use my items enough so that dust isn't a problem. On my higher shelves, I keep decorative items. I would love someone to tell me how to post pictures and I'd send pictures of these out for people to weigh in on how they think they look! Things that are really boring, kinda messy, and utilitarian looking, hair dryers, brushes and combs, etc., I do keep in drawers. chiefly I keep out things that are too tall for most drawers--like hairspray--and other cosmetic products that are in decent looking containers.
