May Day baskets

I had been seeing "cones" or "tussie mussies" on some of the blogs I've visited, so decided to try to make my own.

You know me, I had to make floral ones, but they would be equally nice with other fabrics and trims or even with pretty scrapbooking papers. (They also could be used upside down for party hats too!)

I plan to put some shredded paper in them and add candy and some flowers from my yard and hang them on my neighbor's doors on May 1st.

How creative you are! They look lovely and what a thoughtful idea to fill them and hang on your neighbour's doors - I'm sure they will be impressed.

Those are beautiful Luvs...your neighbors will be so surprised!! I may steal your idea and take flowers to my staff!

I have made those out of paper that has music printed on it...I guess it is scrapbook paper...I got it at Hobby Lobby. At Christmas I used them to package the choir gifts, and last summer we had a "Midsummer Nights' Dream" supper for DH's Sunday School class (he teaches a couples class of 80 year olds...they are GREAT FUN!). I made the cones and put red spray roses in each one for the ladies. They were tickled pink!

Jaybird, those all sound like great ways to use them. (You really need a camera so you could show us all these neat things you do!) There are sure lots of pretty scrapbooking papers out there, good to know it is sturdy enough to use to make these.

I used cardstock, diluted some Mod Podge and then smoothed the fabric pieces on top. Once dried, I just used the glue gun and attached laces, beaded trim, ribbons and little silk roses on them.

I know my one neighbor will love them, the other two are not crafty but will hopefully appreciate the idea of a May Day gift. ;o)

Jenn, I just use any excuse to get to make something creative--not that good at it, but love doing it! LOL

Hmm, I thought I was the first to post on this, oh, wait I did on Crafts.
They are adorable, and you could hang them from the chair for a luncheon.. What time should I be there? (:

Luvs these are adorable. You are so thoughtful to think of your neighbors like that. I have lived here for 8 years and only know the people next door. Guess I'm not very sociable, huh?

    Woaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! Splendid job, Luvs!

Kathleen, I saw your post on the other board. Gets a little slow over there sometimes, so I try to post there when I have something crafty too. ;o)

P.F. You never know when you move into a new area--but I got really lucky--have three neighbors (all couples) we are very friendly with (dinners, parties, lunch, shopping, crafts, magazine trading, help with projects, etc.) and four or five others that we sometimes have conversations with. Sure makes it allot more pleasant I think.

Thanks Prosperity, glad you liked them, they were fun to do and was good to finally use some of my stash of lace, fabric and flowers.

Luvs, those are so pretty, as you said they are very popular on many blogs (you really need to start a blog with all your painting talents and everything else you do). What I love about them is that you can do so much with them for the holidays. I can just see you doing some really pretty Christmas, Halloween, Easter ones!! Gosh I am missing the Holidays already!!! LOL

You're welcome, Luvs, as you gave me an original idea on what to do and give for Mother's Day.

I copied your beautiful cones Luvs, and brought them to my staff this morning.....I know, a day late, but I had some problems yesterday and missed a day of work. The staff was glad to get them today. I have one guy and I made his out of paper that had fish on it, and filled it with a bag of "gold fish" crackers :^) instead of flowers.

Glad you all enjoyed seeing my project, I really enjoyed doing them.

Jaybird I'm so glad you were able to use the idea too. Goldfish crackers sound perfect for a guy gift. I ended up putting the chocolate "hugs" in mine on top of some shredded paper.

Just to give you an update on what I did with them--I took them over to my neighbor's houses at about 6:30 A.M. Hung them by their front doors. Only got caught by one neighbor, so stood and talked to her for a few minutes. She thought it was such a fun idea.

Another neighbor said it just made her smile when she stepped out onto her porch and saw the cone and my card.

But my other neighbor came over to tell me how much it brightened her day! She's been having a couple of very stressful days. Told us her DH and niece were doing about 75 on the freeway when he had a mini stroke! Luckily the niece was with him and was able to guide the car to an offramp doing about 80 miles an hour and get it stopped on a gravel area! She had asked him to slow down, then yelled for him to slow down and he managed to say "Can't" so she knew to grab the wheel and try to figure out what to do. Guess other motorists called the police because she was honking the horn to warn them to get out of the way, so two police cars got there right away once she got the car stopped and immediately called for an ambulance. He is doing okay, but lost about 8 hours, doesn't remember talking to the doctors or anything! Whew! Thank goodness, the niece was with him!

I also took one over to my DIL along with a little mini pitcher I had bought for her collection. She seemed really thrilled with both and wrote me such a nice thank you email. ;o)

That's why I love making crafts--it is such a pleasure for me to create them and I love that they give others pleasure too. ;o)

Luvs, thanks for sharing how your thoughtfulness in giving out your May Day gifts touched the lives of others. You really are a special person to be able to create something so sweet and then to think to hand them out in such a fun way. What an amazing story of courage and "help from above" you received from your neighbour - it is no wonder your gift lifted her spirits! May Day is not something that is really even thought about here but after hearing about your kind gestures, I think it is a wonderful idea.

Lucky people to get your crafts! And so sweet of you!

Luvs, you really are an angel brightening people's day and making them feel special.

You have a big heart and generous nature, and I "luvs" you bunches.

I really didn't feel it was anything "special", just a way for me to have fun making crafts and then the pleasure of giving them away. This really reminded me that we never know when someone needs a little something to brighten their day--a smile or a kind word even can go a long way.

Thanks for the sweet words, ladies, all of you really make MY day! ;o)
