Pink Spring setting

As has been said "better late than never" so I'll show this practice TS I did last week. Last week was one of those we all get at times and that we'd rather forget! On top of Easter prep, trying to get gardening and fencing done between snow showers, Puppy being sick, DH having minor surgery, and me being worse than usual it was a challenge to get things done - but we did it all and survived to tell the tale!

This TS was a practice for Sunday dinner altho we ended up using other dinner plates as these are small for turkey dinner. I've wanted to show these plates before but they were out in the RV and DH only recently brought them in so I could wash them for our upcoming trip. I have only 4 of these ironstone plates (Johnson Bros. from England, I think) bot at a YS years ago for next to nothing. We use them camping as they are very sturdy, look good with our silver plated camping flatware (which I'll have to show in another post later as I think it's still out there), and are washed by hand. At home I dislike anything that won't go in the dishwasher. I'm not sure with the silver trim whether these would survive the DW.

I was a bit tired of the bunny stuff on the sideboard so changed that to a less whimsical blue/yellow. I know the sideboard is off center but there is an electrical plug in the wrong place and I don't know what to do about it. Of course I don't have a lamp there right now so should have centered it on the wall. Oh well, I'm a 'reformed perfectionist' so guess it's OK.

Table centerpiece is a silver plated bride's basket that belonged to my DGM. They were married about 125 years ago so it's old.

{{gwi:1420969}}

Since I don't have nice chargers I use round silver trays. Two are very similar and the other 2 are more decorative. I like this one the best.

{{gwi:1420970}}

This one is decorative as well. I buy these at yard sales whenever I see them for $1-$2 each. I did lots of silver polishing last week! Hadn't been done since before Christmas.

Everything is back to normal this week - we're all on the mend and the weather is improving so this may be my last TS for awhile as we are currently up to our necks with everything that needs to be done before we go away. I'll still be around and have more pics I may post if I can get them sorted. Takes me so long to take pics, resize, crop, realize they are b-a-d pics, retake, etc, etc! And I still post crummy pics! Please don't be too critical, I am improving! I think! ;-D

I don't see anything wrong with your photos, they certainly aren't crummy. C'mon Gal, give yourself some credit. That table is lovely. The plates look so pretty and then to place them on those wonderful chargers...WOW.
Then that antique bride's basket! How proud your DGM would be to see it now!

Even tho I've become a "pinkie fan", it sure is hard to keep my eyes over that fantastic blue n white hen covered dish in the background. LOVE HER!!!

I'm sure sorry last week was hard on you guys. Hope puppy and DH are recovered. I think its Murphy's Law that our bodies go on warpath at the worst possible times! Arrgghh.
I really hope you are doing a LOT better this week.

    hugs, Karen

it's just beautiful and such a fabulous keepsake.
I too am 'eyeing' your sideboard and your lovely B&W display..especially that Hen..she's wonderful!
(I'll have to fight Karen for her) !!
I hope you can relax and enjoy yourself as well as your
    DH and puppy too.

Wow, those are beautiful "camping" dishes! The sideboard looks Spring-y/Summer-y with your BW dishes & I love that you repeated the pattern with the BW print. Your table is lovely...wishing you a good week ahead! TFS! And, thanks for the idea of using silver as chargers/I'll stash that idea! Jeanne S.

First... So happy to hear things are leveling out to even keel, what a time you've had of it.

Second.. Loooove your sideboard (and will without shame keep dreaming of finding one much like it to replace my white "hidey cabinet"..lol)
Your "camping" dishes, ohmy! They are fabulous and my first thought was "camping dishes?? how could she? they are to pretty for that). lol
I think it is amazing that your DGMs basket has survived all of this time and is in such pristine condition. It's so lovely.
Your whole setting is wonderful. I'll never "master" pink , and believe me I've tried, so will continue to be enjoy everyone elses.

You all sure know how to make a gal feel better! Thanks so much for all the lovely comments. Our Furbaby is back to being her usual boisterous happy little self - wonderful how they bounce back altho she did have us worried, DH never complains and is doing fine (I get to change his bandaid!), Easter dinner went off without a hitch, and I'll survive as usual! While last week was a real 'drudge' I am thankful for our life which even at the worst is so much better than what so many have to cope with. However, I've never been a patient person and am frustrated when I can't do what I want, when I want it.

Karen, it seems I will have to keep tabs on my blue hen, or maybe I should auction her off to the highest bidder! ;-D LOL Not a chance! She's one of my earliest and fav finds.

Jane, I'm sure there are more blue hens out there somewhere altho I haven't seen others yet. Maybe you and Karen will find some. I'm not sure there will be much relaxing until we get on the road. Getting ready for trips, especially the first of the season, seems to be a lot of work no matter how we try to make it easy. Fortunately DH does more than his share. We both enjoy all our furbabies and they are mostly healthy.

Jeanne, I've never like plastic 'anything' and grew up with Melmac (which is what DH would have for traveling) but these plates were so cheap, maybe $1 for all 4 so it's no loss if they break. They are ironstone tho so are pretty tough. We even bring pottery mugs and haven't had any breakage.

MM, that old black sideboard was another yard sale find which I admit I paid too much for at $80. It was in *very* bad shape but DH took it apart, strengthened the frame, and painted it black. He painted inside the drawers and cabinet a bright red which I love. I don't feel I've mastered tablescapes in any way but with practice I know we will all learn how to improve where we need to. I know I learn something from everyone's pics and we are all having fun which is the important thing.

LG, those plates are so nice--sure put the Corelle I use in our motor home to shame! Now you have me thinking I should "spiff" things up a bit when we travel. ;o)

Your table looks so pretty, love the soft pink and that fantastic centerpiece. It's so special when we can use cherished heirloom pieces.

I am very impressed that you took the time to share this pretty table with us in spite of all that was going on! Hope it gave you pleasure doing it--and your pictures are really nice so quit worrying about them, okay?

Rest up a bit if you can. What direction are you heading out for on this first trip of the season? We need to do some minor repairs and restocking in ours then might head over to the beach for a couple of days just to get out and about. Not sure what other trips we will take this year--haven't planned that far ahead yet!

Beautiful table with the pink and silver. How clever of you to use trays for your chargers.

Ok, be still my heart! Pink roses, silver and camping all in the same post. The brides basket is my favorite and the shell in there really sets off those roses. The buffet looks great and ya'll are going to turn me into a chicken person yet. I have always loved pink and silver together, I do a small Christmas tree in it each year. I can't ignore the precious doilies, love'em. We have taken one camping trip this year, and are gearing up for a longer one soon, I have to admit we use paper plates in our RV, we have lots of camping company and I don't want to spend my time washing dishes. I think your pics are fine, thanks for all your hard work. Also, I'm so glad Furbaby is better, mine rules our lives.

I forgot to mention the bridal basket, LG. You've filled it with "perfection" ...and, what a heirloom! And the pink & doily linens add extra elegance to your t'scape. Jeanne S.

Luvs, there is nothing wrong with Corelle - we use it daily at home as do millions of others. I won't say it's my fav set of dishes but DH likes it and there are advantages to it. I'll likely never do a tablescape with it tho! ;-D I did this TC last week as I couldn't go far from the house with the Baby needing attention. We are heading south (not much choice in that unless we are going to Alaska! LOL Plans not finalized but parts of Washington and the Oregon coast are destinations. We're in the midst of having some repairs done also and the restocking takes the 3 days prior to departure. We bring all 4 furbabies and I don't travel light so there's a lot to pack.

Punk, those silver trays get a lot of use and it's more necessity than choice. I'd like some nice chargers but we wouldn't use them much so I'd rather buy other things, at least until I find some at a yard sale.

Syble, isn't it interesting how belonging to this forum can change the things we like! I never thot to use pink before as it's not part of my house color scheme but I'm loving it now. We do use paper plates sometimes when we stay near relatives and host a meal. I'm all for 'easy' whatever it takes. I know you understand how worried we were about our Furbaby as she rules our lives as well and the circumstances of this were similar to those of another Furbaby that we lost years ago.

Jeanne, those doilies were a gift decades ago and crocheted by my Aunt who has since passed so they are very precious to me.

Thanks everyone for the lovely comments.

It's all beautiful LG...especially the silver mixed with the other pretties.
I would like camping even more if it included Johnson Brothers dishes :^)
Hugs to both of you and the furkids. Enjoy your trip, we will be looking forward to hearing about it!

Gosh, Gail, I don't know which I like more . . . the pink table setting or the gorgeous blue & white sideboard! Your framed picture goes well with all your pieces, BTW. Love your DGM's silver bride's basket, too. What a wonderful, beautiful heirloom to have!

Jaybird, I spent many years with 'rustic camping' and refuse to do it anymore at my age. DH and I have camped our entire married life as well as with our families from childhood - we honeymooned in a cabin with no running water at a rustic fishing camp! DH 'camped' with Scouts and the military so he loves rustic! *rolleyes* I like my comforts and even some pretties when we travel altho I don't go overboard with decorating. Thanks for the good wishes and I will let you know what's going on if there's anything interesting and especially dish treasures when I find them.

Thanks Lynn, I used to think I didn't have many 'heirlooms' altho I now realize some people have none so I am very grateful for what I have. I also like to collect old things that perhaps should have been other people's heirlooms but they didn't appreciate them so I bot them at yard sales.

Oh that looks so pretty! I love the trays as chargers too! The centerpiece is so sweet. Great job and glad things are better there!
