Thoughts on Master Bath Layour

Please give me any thoughts or suggestions on my Master Bath layout.

Hoping to have the shower be doorless and curbless. It is about 6' x 4.5'

    A couple of quick comments:

    1) The toilet compartment door needs to open out instead of in. Safety and usually code.

    2) The toilet compartment light/fan switches...consolidate the light and fan switches into one switch, with a timer for the fan. Turn the single switch ON, the light and fan come on. Turn the switch OFF, the light goes out but the fan runs for a preset time. 10 minutes, 15 minutes, etc.

    3) Shower ventilation...the shower is large enough to have a fan vent inside the shower. Your bathroom is large enough to have another separate vent outside the shower. You can get a single remote fan (more powerful, more efficient, and quieter) that can evacuate air from two locations.

    4) I recommend the same shower light/fan switch for the shower as I recommended for the toilet compartment. You can set that one up for 20 minutes of extra fan run time to start with.

    5) Shower bench. Just a recommendation, its implementation depends on the purpose of the bench. If this is for one person, then consider moving it to the wall that light switches are on, so the bench will be on the wall immediately to the right as you enter the shower. The edge can be cut at an angle to match the walk-in door angle. Moving the bench to the "front" of the shower will allow you to move your shower heads and bathing area further into the "back" of the shower. With it being doorless, it'll help minimize overspray out the door.

    5) Can lights in the bathroom. If you really want them, I'd use three instead of four, with the middle one on the centerline of the two 4DB18 cabinets. Move the two outside cans so that the left and middle can light are centered on the left sink, and the middle and right are centered on the right sink.

    Got to run.

Hi, Really like the idea of the separate toilet area and the curbless, doorless shower! You also have a nice run of vanity counter -- what is planned between the rightmost mirror and the narrow cabinet?

Probably a makeup mirror for my wife, not sure if it will be wall mounted or just a table model. Not sure what to do with the big space between the big mirrors.

If the area is going to be for makeup with a mirror, I would decide now and plan the elevation behind her area a bit differently. You are creating a somewhat balanced appearance with two identical mirrors over spaces of different widths, with hers quite a bit wider, and possibly adding a third, different sized mirror to that elevation.

You might as well make her mirror span her whole area and plan her lighting over the whole area as well. I also agree with this amount of room you should really light with sconces, not downlighting over the mirrors.

I would consider making the sink bases smaller (you can keep the same size sinks, though), and putting drawer units on either side of both sinks. You would have 3 banks of drawers: 1 to the left of the left sink, 1 in the middle, and 1 to the right of the right sink. Then you could put sconces on either side of the mirrors. That makes for a much better lighting arrangement.

For the space between the mirrors, try a 4" deep hanging wall cabinet. Something like this:

Can you share the layout of the bathroom in the context of the surrounding rooms? What are your restrictions in this project in terms of where plumbing is, etc., or is this a new space? What are your needs? To be honest I'm not sure I love the flow but it may be that I'm misreading where the doors run to. Also, if it was my master I'd want to take more advantage of the natural light from the windows and not put one in the toilet room. The toilet room also seems like it's wider than it needs to be... Did you want a tub or just a shower? This is a really good sized space and I just think there may be some alternate layouts that use the space better... but of course it has to meet your needs as well!!

Here is the updated layout. Moved the toilet door and changed to a pocket door. Added some more drawers and some sconces.

This is new construction so I don't have any restrictions really, other than money! Have a tub now and rarely use it, so I don't think we need a tub. As far as flow to other rooms, you can see that on the updated layout.

Thanks for all of the thoughts so far.

    Mongo,

Do you know who might make the switches you are referring to?

is it really important to your wife to have a vanity area??

I would rather have(from l to r): 24" 4 drawer bank with a 12" deep x 24" cabinet sitting on top, 36" sink base, 24" 4 drawer base, 36" sink base, 24" 4 drawer base with 12" deep x 24" cabinet sitting on top...would look nice and symetrical! can put sconces as you have pictured above and your wife can have a magnified makeup mirror standing by her sink area...
also, you can have outlets hidden in the cabinets by both of the sinks this way...we have a similar configuration and it's very convenient!!
