I have a miele wall hood - 36" I forget the model number but it is slightly arched glass with a stainless steel chimney - clean lines. I have an 90 degree turn inside the wall after the first few feet of run, in order to vent to the outside wall. The filter drops down and unhinges easily to go through the dishwasher. It has good lighting and a fairly strong draw. I find it very loud, possibly because of the quick right angle turn. It is one of the few things in my kitchen that was picked for aesthetics, not necessarily function. I find exhaust fans loud in general.

I find exhaust fans generally loud too... I was just hoping that because my Miele dishwasher and vacuum are so quiet, the hood would be too.

No, not like the DW etc. I have a miele DW, miele masterchef ovens, vacuum, fridge/freezer, and exhaust fan. The exhaust hood is the annoyingly loud (g). It is pretty though.....

I use the outdoor BarBQue if I'm going to generate smoke or much odor.

I have an induction cooktop from DIVA that I love. You can hear the cooling fans on it as well as the cooling fans on the masterchef ovens. I guess it is a necessary evil.

hoods and cooktops are not Miele's forte. The stuff is competent, but will not knock your socks off. They are not going to compete on price either, so you can get more bang for your buck elsewhere. The only thing you might get excited about with their hoods is the look.
