just checking in.....

OK... I just spent an hour doing a chatty post to let everyone know how we are doing and why I haven't been around. Hit a wrong button and it is ALL GONE!

I can tell it is a full moon.

So.. I'll try again. Excuse any typos ( had to take a valium for the muscle spasms in shoulder and neck muscles. Tried to fight it for days and finally gave in.)

I love you all and miss you. I've lurked late night when I fell into bed exausted.

Spring is my favorite time of year. Been shopping for old garden roses and lots of companion plants thanks to the great enablers on the Antique Rose forum. They are just as good at it as y'all are!

Then I've had to dig just about every planting hole on this rocky hillside while trying to keep my balance so I won't fall and roll all the way down into the road!

DH had a blockage due to post-accident surgery scar tissue growth (say that fast 3 times) and had emergency surgery in April. Didn't even make it 2 years. We had been warned by the surgeon that this was a possibility, but it didn't make it any easier for him to go through.

He finally got back to work Monday after being laid off since before Christmas.

DS had after school track practice every day for months and track meets on most week ends. Made it to District, but wasn't at his best after a hard week of strep throat that left him weak and missing too many practices. So... we will make it to state next year I'm sure. He is all arms and legs. It's in his genes. This was his first high school year and he was up against a lot of well seasoned upper classmen.

Anyhoo...That is why I was the only one left to dig all of the holes. Gotta get that hillside planted thickly before the thunderstorms start. Don't want a repeat of the bank washing down into the driveway again this year.

I am never happier than when I drag in after dark filthy and covered in gnat bites after digging, planting and mulching all day.

I just stopped and counted 8 more roses, 7 larger flowers, and 2 trays of assorted plants I picked up at the Master Gardeners sale to get in the ground. Plus 4 on the deck to put into pots.

That isn't counting what I have to divide that has grown too thick in the older garden beds. I love it!

It will have to wait until the shoulder and neck recover.

Just had the Gkids for 5 days while DD flew out to be with her DH (He's been working out of town for weeks) during their anniversary week. Lifting and lugging that precious 21 pound 9 month old bouncing baby boy around may have had a teeenie bit to do with these muscle spasms. Ya think?

I haven't bought any tablescape stuff in months. I got frustrated when I got ready to put away the new Christmas dishes and accessories (including all new mantel swags etc.) and didn't have ANYWHERE to put them.

No attic, basement or shed. Every available space inside is crammed and I have stuff sitting in the floor in the living room. DH isn't strong enough to build anything right now. Also, there isn't a lot of extra $$s for building materials 'till we get back in the groove from the long layoff.

So, that's that, for now.

I put together an Easter tablescape with stuff I had already and wanted to share it with y'all, but I'm pulling my hair out with this new laptop. Can't figure out how to get the pics posted. No cut/paste buttons ANYWHERE! Even my 16 year old DS is scratching his head. Guess I will have to take it back to the store and have their computer Geeks help me.

I probably won't be around much through the summer until it gets too cold to go outside! I will lurk and maybe comment on the beautiful tablescapes when I can.

Love all y'all. You're still my "PEEPS"!

Betty

    Hi Betty,
It is SOOO good to hear from you. I am sorry that you folks have been having problems. You have been on our prayer list. We were so hoping that things were going better for you.
I'm thankful that your DH is able to go back to work. That will make life somewhat easier for you.
I sincerely understand the lack of space. If it weren't for my attic, I would be in the same situation! DH has quit saying the attic...he calls it the "upstairs storage room" :^)
Good luck with your computer...mine has me tearing my hair out on a regular basis, and I'm not even trying to do anything complicated...I think I am just old and dumb!
    Many hugs to you both,
    J

Betty, I just posted to you over on another post. So nice to have you posting here again. We truly miss your comments and "stories". You and "our" Alfred have sure had to go through some tough times! Now that the surgery is over and he is able to go back to work, hopefully things will be lots better for you both. So sorry about you having to dig all the holes yourself--from your description, I got this mental image of you "teetering" on that bank! Too bad we are not all close by--we'd all bring our shovels and give you a hand.

Please come by and read/post whenever you can, and know you are one of us and sorely missed when you are not here.

Oh Betty, it's wonderful to come here tonight and see you've returned! You sound very tired honey, hope you can slow down soon. I can't believe you are planting in all the rocks and on a hillside to boot. You'll have to share pictures with all of us. My gardens need weeded again so I'm going to have to find some extra time and get to it too.

Sounds like Alfred has been through alot with his blockage and scar tissue growth. Emergency surgery on him must of scared the G waddin's out of you. Hope he is well enough to be back working.

DS will only get better every year and I bet that Strep was tough on him. I love track meets when it's nice out. Such a nice time of year to spend outside watching a meet.

Your 21+ BB is alot for you to be packing but bet it was sooo fun. Well maybe not if you had to take a valium for the muscle spasms in shoulder and neck muscles. Darn woman you best slow down and take care so we have you here sharing all your humor. I've really missed that. Maybe we need to get the bust out and do a road trip.

Will be waiting to see your Easter table. Loved your Thanksgiving one. Wish you had more space for your goodies. I'm beginning to think I have to much and that's not good either.LOL

Let the computer people help so you feel comfortable with your laptop. If they sell them, I'm sure they would be happy to help you all they can.

Again, great to have you back.

Gosh, Betty. What a trying time you've had lately. I can't believe your husband is back at work already.

You know, I'd love to see a picture of all your plantings if it's not too much trouble. I don't mean to give you another "assignment" but I'd love to see it.

I remember the days when my son was in high school sports. Those were busy days. I don't think we ever had too many sit-down meals in those days. Sundays was about the only days we could count on to actually have civilized dinner times.
Sounds like your son has a pretty good high school sports career in front of him (Can you say, "Scholarship?")

Try to take it easy over the holiday weekend.

    Oh Betty...
It's so good to see you posting here again. You've been so missed.
I'm just so happy all is well, and I'm also happy to hear that DH is back at work.
Sounds like you've been busy with
'good stuff' ...try not to over do.
You know, we ALL will be looking forward to your return.

    Ohboyohboyohboyohboyohboy...doing the Happy Dance...

Betty (and Alfred) are BACK with us!

I'm so glad to know Alfred is ok, and back working. Tho am really sorry about the emergency surgery. I understand that scar tissue stuff because of my son, Jason. Thankfully he hasn't had any surgeries in years now, and I hope Alfred is the same way in the future.

I can't believe all the digging you are doing, no wonder your shoulder is on the warpath. We have a few walking wounded gardeners here now tho, so you're in good company.

PUNK telling YOU to slow down is the Pot calling the Kettle black! LOL. She's the regular energizer bunny..on speed! Both of you need to slow down a bit. ;o)

I'm just so happy to see you back here I can hardly stand it. What a relief too knowing you and Alfred are ok, you've been missed and are so loved here.

Thanks Guys, for all of the sweet 'Welcome Home's.

Believe me, I'm taking it easy. The good Lord is even watering everything, so I don't have to pull the hose up and down the hill. The only problem is all of the weeds love the rain, too!

Went to sleep to the sound of thunder and the cool rain falling. I LOVE IT!!

Alfred is under strict orders to take it easy at work. I was worried about him going back to work so soon, but he has the sweetest boss. He goes to our church and is sooo laid back.

He tells me when he gets tired or feels uncomfortable, he goes in his boss's office and sits and talks with him a while 'till he feels better.

    Have a great day,
    Betty

Betty, so sorry to hear about your DH, but be glad he's on the mend and can now enjoy summer with you & the family. It's always something, isn't it???

My son was in track and I remember all the practices & the meets, but I LOVE track & field events so I was at every one of them through grade school & highschool with him.

My oldest grandson tried track & he just doesn't have his dad's genes I guess, now he's great at almost every sport, especially if it involves balance, he was "dropping in" on the big vert ramp on his skateboard when he was 4, but he seems to have lead in his butt when it comes to running & track. Guess he'll stick to his guitar & cycling!

I bet your son does make state if the did that well his first year!

I'm just like you, I LOVE digging in the earth, all my nails are gone as soon as spring arrives. Everyone says "why don't you wear gardening gloves" I hate them, I want to feel the soil, get in there & get dirty & you are right, if I'm not dirty & sweaty by nite time, I did not have a good day in the yard!!! LOL And, like you, have back & shoulder problems, but if we let that stop us, we deprive ourselves of one more simple pleasure in this life, so I plod onward & continue to work in my yard, despite the problems!!!

I will be mostly lurking too, unless I have some pics from yard sales to share.

    Betty,

So glad to hear from you! Sounds like everyone in the family is putting it back together. I'm so happy to know that Alfred is back at work after the surgery and injuries, and hope he can crank it up to full speed soon. So nice to have a boss like he does!

Sounds like we have a lot of gardeners here. How wonderful to be out in the spring planting--I love the cool air and the rains keeping everything clean. We have to haul in yards and yards of compost to loosen our granite soil but it ends up so soft and wonderful that planting in it is a joy! Sounds like you're going to have a beautiful hillside. We are all waiting for pictures...

Good luck to all of you--you've come through these trials like real troopers!

    Betty,
I was happily surprised to see your post when I check in after a while. I am so glad to hear that things are turning for the better for you and Alfred. I hope Alfred gets fully healed from his surgery soon. Glad his boss is so understanding!!

Enjoy your gardening!! I miss gardening - my DH and family do not like the idea of me working in the garden now:(. And the whole place is a mess now. Anyways, I would love to see pics of your garden - I am sure it will look fantastic with all your roses!
