27- vs. 30-inch wall oven

Another question on maximizing our appliance budget... We can save/redirect $200 or so if we go with a 27-inch wall oven, instead of a 30-inch.

We are adventurous cooks, but it's just the 2 of us and we don't make dozens of cookies or multiple oven dishes at the same time.

Honestly, I never even knew there were 27-inch ovens until I started my research recently. Does anyone have a 27-inch wall oven as their only oven?

Thanks!

I looked at both 30 and 27" and decided on Miele 27" wall oven with Miele smaller speed oven which is combo microwave, convention broiler. This is for 3 people and I like to bake. For two people, 27" is quite adequate.

I have Dacor 27" double wall ovens. I could easily get by with one but I had space for 2 and it is handy when I'm preparing dinners for a crowd.

I have a 27" GE cheapie, not convection (which probably makes it bigger). Honestly, three inches isn't that much when you're talking Thanksgiving. It takes full sized cookie sheets and full sized turkeys (24 lbs at least). I find it perfectly satisfactory ( there are 4 of us, plus we do some family holidays) and I find the three inches on the counter are better than in the oven.

Take your pizza pan and your turkey roaster to the appliance store (or at least a tape measure). There is a great deal of interior variation among the brands and models.

Yup, I have a Bosch 500. It's still bigger than any oven I've ever cooked on before (grew up with 21" ovens in London, last oven in this house was 24").

Trust me, there's plenty of room - we feed a lot of family periodically and have never found we needed a bigger oven. And it's the only oven we have, plus we cook everything from scratch.

    It's also more economical on fuel . . .

Hate my 27". Cookies come out terrible--burnt on the bottom, raw on top. There isn't enough room for air to circulate without convection. GE cheapy. Can't wait to remodel and throw away the Easy Bake.

2 people here, and 27" works fine. Presently have a GE Profile w/ convection, and had a 27" Dacor w/ convection before this one.

30" seems to be becoming the standard since convection has become standard and used up some of the oven space that used to be available in a smaller unit. It might behoove you to make your cabinet so that it can accept a 30" oven in the future if the 27" wears out.

We debated between the 27 and 30 inch Electrolux wall ovens until I found out my cookie sheet would not fit in the 27 inch. We're planning to get the 30 :-)

Have met with five kitchen contractors---All say 30" wall is the ONLY way to go -- works for the re-sale.

Don't do it just for resale--few people measure ovens and 27" looks darn close to 30".

My 27" oven bakes cookies very nicely, unlike the overpriced 30" European convection one I had in my previous home. (But now I have a cheap oven in a not-so-cheap kitchen. I will report back on if it affects resale.)

Adding to my earlier post, I think it's helpful to check actual internal measurements: I think the inside space of my Bosch 27" is actually greater than some other manufacturer's 30": Even if the outside dimensions are 30", you still may not get the most useful interior space.

I was advised to get a 30" for resale, but my kitchen is for ME. We left enough space so that anyone could replace it with a 30" if they really felt they needed one. But, given that neither of us noticed when we bought this house that the oven was only 24", despite being keen cooks, I suspect it's hardly a deal-breaker.

My last home had a fantasticly massive 1950s-vintage 48" stove, with a unheated compartment off to the left of what must have been about a 33"w main oven compartment. This dominated the tiny kitchen it was in. From there I moved to another small apartment, this one with a cheapo 20" range, which makes me long for the 24" wall oven I had 3 apartments ago.

I find 27" plenty wide for everything; I'd consider 30" more for the extra options available only in that size (i.e. Electrolux Icon single or double, and GE Advantium 240 wall ovens) that don't have a 27" equivalent. OTOH, some ovens, like the Gaggenau side-hinged ovens are available in 70cm (just over 27"w) but not 30".

Oh, and Gaggenau also makes 24" and 36".

We have the GE Advantium 240 which is 30 inch and matched it with GE Profile Convection 30 inch wall oven. We are glad we went with the 30 inch especially at holidays with large roast or Turkey. The difference in price for the oven is not that much of a difference over the 27 inch. The Advantium had to be a 30 inch for the 240V model which for us was the only way to go...

I have 24" and we find it great because it heats up fast. Don't need a toaster oven. One less countertop appliance.

Someone who posts often has mentioned that her large cookie sheets just fit into her 24" Miele oven, and so any more width (like in a 30") would just be empty space.

I have had a Dacor 27" double convection oven for 15 years. I bake A LOT....breads, biscotti, pies. I roast a lot as well...multiple pans of chicken/vegetables and dessert at same time and have hosted many large meals 12+ people. Never wished for larger oven. And hardly ever use second lower oven.

We are downsizing and I will definitely put in a counter height french door oven.

Second oven will be Advantium 120 V for use under counter (don't want to sacrifice counter for 240 V requirements). Will use for smaller meals ahead.

Have you installed your Advantium 120V? How do you like it? I am debating whether to go with Advantium 240V or 120V. If we go with 240V, it will require re-wiring in our house.

I didn’t even know we had a 27 inch oven until we started thinking about a remodel. We’re a family of 6 and mine works very well for us, with a lot of use. Even Thanksgiving. I am leaning toward replacing it with the same size.

I should also say mine is a convection oven with the microwave/convection combo above it.

I have a Bosch 500 27" and find that there is plenty of room. We just purchased another house which has an older GE Monogram 30" double oven and I find that I am far more likely to burn myself on the racks on the 30" for some reason. I think possibly because the racks are wider in the 30".

we have a five year old Dacor double convection 27 inch oven . We are doing a big reno right now . We have a high budget but we are sticking with the Dacor ovens as there is simply nothing wrong with them and never have we lacked for space in them. We have also added a Miele speed oven 24 inch. My only concern is replacing in 10-20 years for someone else, as the choice of high quality 30 inch models is greater. Otherwise absolutely no complaints with 27 inch ovens.
