How Would You Use This???

. . . other than the obvious, that is. I have two lead crystal ice buckets/pails. This is the smaller of the two, being 5 5/8" wide (not including the protruding handles) and 5 1/2" tall. It sounds small, but as you can see in the pic I just took, it's not that small . . . and it's very heavy! I really only need one, and that one I use only occasionally. I was wondering what else I could do with this smaller one. . . other than using it to keep a bottle of white wine or champagne chilled. It's really quite pretty and very sparkly, but I feel too tired this afternoon (after running errands in town all day!) to wash it again.

Anyhoo, I was hoping you all could give me some ideas of what to do with it. I have no more room in my bar cabinets. Gee, I wonder why after being part of this (great) group of enablers for the past couple of years ;^D

Got any ideas?

Lynn

I have a couple of them and use them at parties to keep the white wine chilled. Otherswise, I just store them :)

Bonnie, do you pre-chill yours in the fridge or freezer or just add ice around the bottle?

    Hi Lynne,
a vase for a tussy mussy type floral bouquet
Silverware caddy for a buffet dinner
set a pretty plate across the top and use it as a lift for a buffet item
fill it with fancy soaps, or bath sponges
put a pillar candle in it and pour in some pretty sand or decorating marbles
float a rose or a floating candle in it
fill it with candy or cookies
fill with water and use to grow bamboo
use as a holder for bead necklaces
put a large styrofoam ball in the top and use as a hat rack for a fancy hat
    keep pretty scarves in it

    TTFN,

WOW, Candy...great ideas! Lynn, I was going to say to use for a "spooner." (but you still need to store it!) Pretty piece! Jeanne S.

I'd start a collection of wine corks and display them in this beautiful ice bucket.

Great ideas! I was hoping it had a lid... then it would be a small cookie jar or cotton-ball holder for me. lol!

Boy! CC had all kinds of ideas. She pretty much listed anything I might have thought of and a few more to boot.

My favorite idea is the soap holder. That's because my mother had a big collection of cut glass and she often (always, actually) used pieces in the bathroom to hold various items. A celery dish held the bar of hand soap, a large bowl (about the size of your bucket) would hold rolled up face clothes to be used as individual hand towels when entertaining, a small lidded-one had cotton swaps, another piece, set high on a shelf, had colored marbles with greenery cascading out of it. Even when she changed the entire bathroom decor, the cut glass would come back out.

I think it's great that you have this "problem" to contented with.

Sounds like you have alot of ideas to run with. The only other thing I can think of is hair ties, clips, etc. if you or DD have long hair and use these.

Darn it, where did my post go?!? I posted here the other day but must not have hit the final post button. Well thank you for all your great suggestions. I like them all and am going to try many of them . . . now that you've opened my eyes to the possibilities. Candy, you have a great mind for repurposing things. I'm really impressed! After reading all the great suggestions here I felt very dull-witted. This little ice bucket of mine is going to really earn it's keep. Tonight I'm going to try it with a pillar candle and some glass floral marbles in it for the dinner table. I'm copying down all your suggestions on a note card and keeping it in my buffet, for future reference. Thanks!
