A remote blower will be much quieter than an internal one, but how loud it is will depend on the brand and the installation. Our Wolf roof mounted blower is MUCH quieter than our Thermador outside wall mounted blower at our old house.

Both Wolf and Thermador blowers are rebadged units. Go to the web sites of companies that specialize in hoods, like Modern Aire, and they'll have points on noise levels and noise reduction.

We have an external blower with only a couple feet of spacing. It makes a big difference and is not very loud (internally or externally) Look at abbaka blowers

I've been checking into abbaka blowers. Did you find that you had to put it into their hood/liner? I was hoping to buy their blower and combine it with another liner, but I'm not sure this is an option.

I suggest you look at Fantech too. Their prices seem to be 1/3 of Abbaka's. I'm using one of their roof blowers for a renovation this summer. I don't have first hand experience with any of this. It's the first time that I'll have a range hood.
