We pretty much picked our "Dream Kitchen" 2005-2006.
With the exception of an off brand and very expensive radiant Electric Cooktop (Caldera), It has worked out great and we still enjoy the kitchen as much as when it was 1st completed. Fortunately reading GW, we became familiar with Induction and replaced the Caldera with an Electrolux Icon Induction Cooktop---wife still tells me how much She loves that!
Anyway "Our Choices" Money was no object when we picked "these".

Elux Icon 30" Induction cooktop
Elux Icon 30" Convection Oven
Elux Icon Speed Oven
Miele Optima semi-Paneled dishwasher (control panel shows)
Jenn-air 48" Built in and Panelled Fridge.

All have been trouble free, except the handle on the speed oven was coming loose, and rather than chance breaking something to fix it, we called in a Local Repair Company--cost me about $130.

So I don't think $130 spent in a period of 4 years is anything to complain about?

I hope you are as fortunate as we were , on your selections,(with the exception of the Caldera).

Well you may have sparked an interesting discussion here because perfect appliances don't exist and most require some tradeoffs (however insignificant). I think the perfect range would have open burners like Blue Star with a reliable manual convection oven like ?Wolf? or ?Capital?. It would have customer service like Wolf and color choices like Blue Star. The message is that you have to decide which factors are priority for you and recognize that you may have to settle for less than a perfect match with your desires in other areas. But, that said, there are many people whose desires and needs are a very good match with some brands. Just look at the happiness in the Lacanche threads. DCS owners also seem quite happy.

I used to have a Pro 48" Sub Zero Refrigerator, without the glass panel. I paid around $ 15,000, based on some recommendations. What I didn't expect was... a big box with no lights inside - AND no shelves for the smaller items on the inside of the door.

The small item mess that eventually resulted due to the lack of configurability, became such a headache that I was forced to get rid of it. IMHO, this fridge would be good to have in only one case - if you use it as an additional fridge for bulk storage. It's well-built, but absolutely unmanageable for smaller items.

So, I got rid of the $ 15,000 nightmare and purchased a 36" Miele fridge
and I find it MUCH more convenient than the 48" Sub-Zero. And surprisingly enough, even though it's physically smaller, it feels like it's more spacious, because now I have "everything in its place and a place for everything", including adjustable shelves and great lighting.

Look into Miele.

Hi dandgbb, it was so nice to see your post about the sub-zero vs the miele. I had yet to read anyone who has actually owned both and had a preference of one vs the other! We are currently stuck trying to decide between the two. We lean to the Miele for the lighting and shelving. Looks like one would be buying a high end model. Only concerns are the fact that the sz has a "air scrubber". Have you found that your food stays fresh just as long as it did in the SZ? Do the ice cubes taste clean in the Miele? (we have an old refrigerator and the ice tastes terrible!) Also, the service/reliability of the Miele vs the Sub-Zero. SZ is made here in the states and from what I've been told has superior response to service calls, and 3 year warranty. Have you had any issues with the Miele? Your response would be greatly appreciated--it is so much money to spend, I'd love to hear from a real life owner and not just a sales rep's opinion. Thank you!! G

Hi plllog, thank you for your response to my earlier post. Yes, I did receive it and appreciated your descriptions. The information was detailed and has certainly swayed me towards the Miele. I was only looking for some additional feedback given the description of dandggb's description of his frustration with SZ and now is a Miele owner. Thank you to everyone who takes a little time out of their day to answer posts. They've been most helpful.
