Long things on induction -- report

I have been using my Gaggenau 24" induction cooktop for a few weeks now. It's like 2/3 of the 36" one that they sell in the U.S. So far I'm very happy, though I'm not sure I have as much power as the 36" is supposed to have in the center element. My cooktop was made to accept U.S. current, even though it has a UK layout.

I have a 16 quart Le Creuset stockpot which is just the size of the outer ring. Boiling for a long time causes an overheat shut down. Boiling is also not instant in my 2.5 quart soup pot, I assume because the bottom is smaller so there's less area of contact. No biggie.

BUT!! I tried my big two burner Napa Style deep edge grill/griddle across the two small rings. My little, much flatter, Le Creuset grill/griddle does not work at all on Mr. Indcution (small partable). The big one works on the Gaggenau, however!! I only tested it. Haven't tried cooking, or turning it up high enough to grill or anything like that, but the cooktop registers it, and heats it.

Also, my small (8 qt., approx. 16" long (interior)) graniteware roaster, the one with the tree dented into the bottom, pretty much fits within the large ring. It heats. It makes gravy. I've done it. Again, this theoretically doesn't work on induction, but does on mine.

I don't know if these kinds of things will work on other units, or other pans, but I'm thrilled with these things. Sometimes it just takes being bold enough to try!
