I agree on the color change. Although pretty, your candles blend right into the stone.I know you mentioned you don't want a picture, but how about a large mirror with a dark, ornate frame? Mirrors are great optical room enlargers as well. You have lots of natural elements in this room (wood, stone, grasses), perhaps a large piece of metal wall art would work here. Something in a natural theme like trees or leaves. Bring some warm colors into the room would add to it's coziness as well...deep rust or oranges would work well...

Can I pick this apart a little? The Windows are really bugging me, I want to see valances over the Arches and Long Drapes, or at the very least, mullions painted dark and some reasonable trim on the windows, I want to bring the wall color down to a rich beige...Lamps, Then above the MantIe wanna see a mirror in a heavy frame...

Search the box above under photos and products for wall sculpture - saw quite a few I'd like here. I agree that the windows look like they're from the '70's - lightweight aluminium. If they are that old, I'd consider replacing them with efficient and beefily trimmed out and mullioned ones to match the weightiness of the FP.

Thank you for the suggestions....I have 5 lamps in this room as well as 2 large mirrors, you cant see them as this is just a small portion of the room. The windows are from 1996 and while I would be open to valances I am not going to do long panels as I have 3 large dogs and foster dogs also. Not trying to be rude, but I really like the room except for the mantel.

AggieDesigns....what should I paint?? The inside of the windows ?? I should add , before someone mentions the fan, I have a bronze wagon wheel type light fixture bought, just havent had it put up yet.

I think your room is beautiful and I like the open windows bringing in the outdoors. The shape of the windows adds something to your room too. I still think a metal sculpture over the mantle. Something rustic to go with your wagon wheel light fixture.

AggieDesigns....LOL...I dont like the windows either but I cant do the panels ( though Im sure they would look lovely) Mullions are what?? The inside of the windows where they go in?? I have 7 of those windows in the family room and they do look bare . I like the clock.

I can not tell what your accent colour is for this room, or if you kept things in the neutrals all the way around…
I would splash it up and find the perfect reds/ burgundy to pop it! Heck even a complimentary Blue for the brown tones would work! But i am crazy like that!!
Not that thrilled? Can’t go wrong with beautiful Chocolate accessories, few elements to toss around with that would be glass… You can always lean a larger mirrored piece on the mantel, a few empty frames and greens! (Plant) OR Large lettering seems to still be in as far as I know, and with holidays just around the corner, you can always try it out temporarily of course! (Peace/Hope/Joy/)

Thanks justdebi....yeah, Im neutral kinda of girl. I like dark browns, light browns and beiges....I dont have a colored wall in my entire house, nor any reds or blue in accessories.....I like greenery and plants ( would have to be artifical with my pooches)

I love the rough texture and Tudor Revival feel of the fireplace in contrast to the big windows.

Hand wrought style sculpture or candlesticks, or perhaps a bronze patinated scultpure could look great. Or how about some rustic earthy pottery with an interesting texture, maybe mixed with some oversixed silver or mercury glass for a bit of glam and reflection, or a mirror leaning on the mantel with a rustic or ethnic carved frame.

I have noticed that the dilemma someone posts is sometimes relatively minor compared to something else they haven't even noticed. It is hard to resist pointing out what might really be the problem, or is an invisible issue to the homeowner, that could make a huge difference in regard to the very dilemma they are concerned about. Hence, some of us focused on the windows here. Lovely room with much potential. I hope pyewackit22 will play up its great features to the max!

I think your candles look great instead find different candlestandles that match in your colors different ,textures & do a collection different Candlestands small & med & hi

I like your room very much - including the 'uncovered' windows! lol Replacing the candles with a metal sculpture - copper, perhaps, would change the fireplace wall a lot! Why not pick up a couple that you like and take them out on loan. Try them - if you don't like either - take them back, but you'll still have seen whether or not the metal works for you.. :) gl with it!!

I happen to love the Windows, I wouldn't cover up their great arches with anything, perhaps a plantation shutter in a rich wood would give the fair colors in the room some contrast... This room reminds me of some of the homes that you would see in Napa Valley, I would play the stone up on that gorgeous fireplace, if you dare to I would install rich sconces on either side of the mantel as a focal point, in the center I would add a rustic mirror then flank it with some of your candles, then add a bit of rustic greenery, nothing fu fu:)

I would not put a metal sculpture above FP because it would compete with the FP screen. In my opinion a different texture should be there. Something wooden like a large wooden clock. I think a painting would be nice there but you said you didn't want that. Try some pretty vases in different sizes. I just love your FP!

Love the candles on the hearth, that wrought iron piece I think would look great if it were hung, leaning it just looks a little dangerous :)

If you were to hang the wrought iron piece over the mantel I would remove the screen a d perhaps do candles or a large leaf fern inside the fireplace if it isn't in use, I agree with Kathy when she said the two iron pieces would compete with each other

The metal piece is gorgeous and HUGE, love it... So funny that you 'found' it in your bathroom:) I'd love to see the bathroom that lends itself to finding something like that:)

I am gonna remove the fireplace screen and the large fern w candles is an excellent idea....its heavy so it wont fall. LOL, my master bath is huge and I had it hanging over my tub.

Next dilemma... What to hang back over your tub? :)

I would definitely go with a picture landscape on the mantel. Wrought iron would get lost in the neutral (but beautiful) tone of the room. A beautiful fall scene with muted reds and golds would give the eye a focal point and add a feeling of warmth and color. :)

Oh, I do love the metal piece you found "in your bathroom"? Ha ha, what else is in there?? I would use that and move the fireplace screen. I really do love your fireplace!!!

Kathy, thanks the fireplace completely redone....it was originally dark red brick and much smaller....I got lots of good stuff in my bathroom and upstairs loft, but I have to figure out what to replace stuff with when I move things....lol

I would suggest something like this. Also it's hard to tell by the picture but I think if you paint the walls next to the fireplace a darker color it might make it stand out a bit more and give a nice contrast.

Have you thought of going with something softer over the fireplace, like an abstract tapestry or sculptured cloth, thick macrame or wool hanging?

I also like the clock idea -- check this one out from Ethan Allen -- it would stand out from the stone but still compliment the room!

A beautiful wooden mirror resting on the mantle with your candles flanking the sides. The room is beautiful! It doesn't need much because the windows and stone on the fireplace are gorgeous! Keep it simple!! :) Good luck!
