Been Gone Too Long

I've been away visiting DD and then once we got back, things have been busy at work and there have been various social happenings. I have really missed being able to check in here and post with you all. Hopefully, things will slow down a bit now. Here are a few pics from some things I've been up to lately....I'm off to catch up on all your posts...

DD

Got this new table & chairs for the cabana at Walmart (end of season sale price yeah!)when visiting DD. There are 6 chairs with the table, an umbrella and stand (used 2 chairs and umbrella elsewhere)for $349.

Of course, had to "set the table" with new melamine plates I found at Winners, on clearance sale $3 for 4 plates. Wished they had more but that was the last pkg. Everything else on the table I already had. I couldn't get the flowers in a vase to sit level on the center of the table so took the "plug" out and filled the umbrella hole with the flowers - worked great!

We have a small sundeck off our kitchen which had an old 'ugly' table on it and so I put the table from the cabana there with 2 of the new chairs.

Then there was a 60th birthday at work, so I did a table with the yellow and green ceramic "gift bags" as a centerpiece and got my mom who loves to bake to make me a cake for it. She opted for a delicious blueberry cream cheese tart - yummy!

After that, it was my DSiL's birthday and my mom had a gathering at her house and set this lovely blue table. She used some of her "silver birch" china which she has had for many years. She says she is always "nervous" to set a table when I'm coming over but I think she did a lovely job!

Glad you're back, DD. Missed you. I enjoyed all the photos. Those melamine plates are real pretty. I love your Mom's china and think her table in the soft blues turned out lovely.

Welcome back DD, glad you have been having fun. Your new table looks really nice, and so great that you can use a couple of the chairs on the deck too. Great bargain on your dishes! Love your Mom's silver birch china--really pretty. She did a lovely table, aren't those hydrangas gorgeous flowers? And I like her two toned napkins too. It is so great that you do such a nice table at work--great idea using the pretty bags for a centerpiece--and the dessert looks yummy too.

Have fun checking out all the posts you've missed. Thanks for all the nice "eye candy".

Welcome Back DD.. sounds like you've been having a fun time, shopping & visiting. You got some really great bargains. Your new table and chairs look so nice on the cabana. I like the festive, floral dishes and the table setting you did for it. Also, sounds like your mom is a real 'keeper' >> Not only does she bake for you, she sets a lovely table >> I love her china, and it's so pretty with the blue. Give her my compliments.
    Once again, glad your back.

WOW you have been busy....your cabana furnishings are great!!
Love your Mom's table too....my Mother loved that china, but never got any pieces of it! It is beautiful!

It is GOOD to be back when you all have such nice comments. Thank you!

Karen - so far, when we've had guests over to try out the new furniture, they notice the plates before the furniture! So glad, I got them, still wishing they had more but maybe I'll find something similar elsewhere.

Letmag - glad you enjoyed the pics - makes it worthwhile posting them!

Luvs - it is now my coffee week at work again so of course, did the table (beach theme similar to one I've posted on here without the place settings) and I also made a "Pineapple Fluff" type dessert which they all devoured. The staff do appreciate it so it makes it fun.

Jane - I will pass on your compliments to DM. (and the others) She will be surprised she is "on the 'net" and others are seeing her work!

Jaybird - DM has about a 10 place setting collection of Silver Birch (?Royal Albert) but she says she is tired of it now. That's why she used the gold/cream plates with it on her table. I feel like going to her house to "play" with the SB as I didn't appreciate it enough when I was growing up - it is a unique pattern with the birch trees on it.

Lovely, DD. Very nice furniture, enjoy it!
I love Mom's table, and you know those hydrangea are just beautiful!

ok DD, what is "pineapple fluff"? Sounds delicious!
I saw some of your Mom's china on eBay. WOW $$$$$. Spode also has some called Silver Birch but nothing like these Royal Albert pieces. They are beautiful. I wouldn't mind getting a cup w saucer for display they are so pretty, but since I don't actually collect them, hard to justify the cost. Once in a while I have picked up a cup and saucer that was too hard to resist at antique shop, but usually I behave. Maybe someday I'll stumble on this pattern tho.

Right now have a MAJOR bill looming for my little Penguin cat's dental surgery next Monday. So shopping is at a stand-still.

Kathleen, I knew YOU would love the hydrangeas and have to admit I thought of you when I saw her table!

Karen - those pics of the Silver Birch china make it look even better than in real life! Or maybe it is that I just never fully appreciated it before. I will have to tell DM if she needs $, she can get a lot selling some pieces on eBay....but I think I would be buying it before that happened!

Pineapple Fluff is a made-up recipe where I make a graham wafer crumb crust and put a mixture of whipping cream, vanilla pudding and drained crushed pineapple on top. Very easy and pretty tasty.

I hope Penguin cat appreciates how much you care about her/his teeth....giving up dish shopping!
