My Blue Table

I woke up Saturday and felt blue. So..........,

I set a table with my favorite color!

The dessert cups, goblets, candles, and napkins came from the Dollar Store.

The blue and white centerpiece came from Ross. The mirror under it I found at one of the Marshall's Stores near Chapel Hill NC. It has the little hook on the back to hang it on a wall, but I copycatted Judith and used it to add a little pizazz to my table.

I finally found candleholders like Judith's that I wanted.

Please feel free to critque my table. I'm still new at this and need all of the help I can get.

There were no flowers blooming in my garden. (They all pretty much died from the drought while we were in the hospital for a month and 1/2.)

Betty, I hope you didn't fee "blue" for long with a wonderful table setting like that! It looks so pretty. Of course, you know I like cobalt blue too and would love to have your matching glasses. I DO have two of those dessert cups that DH bought for me years ago but have never been able to find any more. I would like to get those candle holders too after seeing yours and Judith's previously. I'm glad for you that you are home and able to "play" a bit rather than having to give your full attention to Alfred's situation.

Don't want to say that I'm glad you were blue, but sure glad you decorated your table in all that pretty blue and showed us the pictures of it. ;o) Everything turned out great, and I really love those napkins--can't believe you found them so cheaply.

Isn't it great to know that we can find pretty dishware at bargain prices? I know it sure helps me get to have more things to play with.

I agree, so happy that you now have a little time to "play" and enjoy your pretty dishes and being home again.

Pretty, pretty!!!! I hope you feel red sometime soon :^)

    Thanks everyone.
DD-Keep checking the $ stores. You can sometimes stumble across some really cute stuff there.
Luvs-Blue is my favorite color and I couldn't believe it when I saw those napkins. They are very pretty to be so inexpensive.
Jay- So you like red. Hmmm.... The only red dish I have is a small heart shaped dish that says "You are Special" that I use for Birthdays or when Terry (our 14 year old son) or one of the grandkids is sick or having a bad day. Even Alfred smiles when I pull it out and put some fruit on it for him and tell him he is special too, not just the kids/grandkids!
But I sure would be interested in seeing a setting using red dishes if you have any. I found some pink ones in NC but don't have enough other stuff for a tablesetting in pink yet. That's as close to red as I can get! I don't count the plastic heart shaped dishes I used for our Valentine table. It was the first "Tablesetting" I had ever done after finding all of you and getting bitten by the "BUG". I don't think I had my camera then, so no pics.

Come to think of it, I saw a cute set of dishes at Walmart that was red. I'll just tell Alfred I MUST get them because Jaybird wants to see a table using red! Works for me. We'll see if it works on Alfred!

Well Betty, I hope your 'Blue' feeling changed to a 'Rosy' mood after setting this table. It's just lovely. Next to my white ironstone, Blue is my next All Time Favorite. It's so serene and just lovely. You put together such a beautiful table. I've got some blue colbolt pieces that were my grandmothers. Two candy dishes and a candle holder, and I just love them. I loved how you used the mirror with your centerpiece.
Like everyone else..glad you were able to be home to
    'play' Blue !!

    Thanks Jane,
Blue does something to me that releases those endorphines in my brain and makes me a happy person. The more I look at it the more peaceful I feel.

When I read that you had a cobalt blue candleholder that belonged to your grandmother I realized that may be what I need for my table. I walk by it several times a day and stop and think "I love this table but...." This morning while sitting at the breakfast bar with Alfred I kept staring at it and the more I looked at it, the more I knew that it needed something. At first I thought I just needed to find some dark blue candles to go in the clear crystal holders. But I think it would look nicer if I had cobalt blue holders too. What do you think?

Judith, can you tell me what to do to take it up a notch? I still have it set up trying to "tweek" it. I just went in and took the candleholders off completely and it does look better without them. But, what now? After going back and looking at a lot of other tablessttings here, mine DEFINATELY needs something.

DD, your tables have that finished look, can you give me some ideas?
Alfred has a Drs appointment tomorrow and I can check some stores for flowers, candleholders, candles, etc while we are out if he feels up to it.
Jane,Luvs,Karen,Kathleen,Jaybird,Jim? I need all of the ideas I can get.

Betty, I love blue and white too.
    Your egg is sooo pretty.
I think I have the same napkins, are they Martha's?

You might want to try putting the napkin on the plate, or in the glass for a little interest... If you leave it on the table it is supposed to be to the left of the plate, under the forks.
I hope you will continue to play, it is fun, and you sure deserve some of that!
Here's a red and white to encourage you to get your red and white for Jay!

Be careful, you may end up with a lot of dishes. I sure enlarged my collection since I started on this forum!!
But, if it is just 2 of you most of the time, as it is here, treat yourself to 2 of things, much cheaper, and you and DH can enjoy a diff setting each night!

WOW...I came back and there's RED!!!! Thank you so much Kathleen!
Betty, if you give him a big smooch and tell him that red is the color of luv....maybe...... ;^)
Hugs to all of you and thanks for giving me so many pretty things to look at!

Yes, the color of love and DEBT..if you buy too many dishes, napkins, tablecloths etc...LOL

Kathleen, SHHHHHH with the D_ _ t word! Alfred is listening!!
I got so excited I did put the napkin on the wrong side didn't I?
Your napkin looks exactly like mine but mine are $1, not Martha.
The red set of dishes I saw at Walmart are sort of squarish with some kind of pattern on it with a faint Asian feel. It isn't red red. Just sort of red. Oh heck, I'll just go get it. It's too hard to explain. Is that a good enough excuse to buy it?
    Betty

Betty, don't buy it unless you really like them! Or like I said just get 2 to play with.
I got my blue at the $1 store too, but they had a Martha label in them! I got the red glass plates there too, Aroroc, I have seen them for a lot more...
Just wait till you see something you like, and play around with stuff you have...
The tablecloth in the red pic is really a duvet cover I got at Wm Sonoma for 6.00 on sale.
Judith used a pretty throw from TJ's in her blue and white pic..
Here's a better pic of the red...

Betty were you here at Christmas time? I posted a setting in red and white snowmen..dishes from CVS,,VERY cheap the day after Cmas!

Have fun, you deserve it for sure, and it is a good distraction...

Betty, I liked your candle holders. Had wondered how some small white flowers might look in the desert dishes you have at each place. Just a thought. It really is lovely and refreshing just as it is--you should just whip up some food and sit down and enjoy it!

Kathleen, love that red/white duvet, it makes a great table cover. Gosh, I've never seen either the red glass or blue glass plates at my Dollar Tree. I sure missed out, they look lovely.

You guys are having so much fun with your tables, I need to get busy and do one now that I've removed DH's Union Pacific dishes from the dining room table. (I had to move some bunnies out of my family room hutch to make room to display them!) I think I have some blue and white plates I haven't shared here yet, I'll get them out and play too. Pics to follow in a day or so. ;o) Luvs

Hey ladies...I don't know what type of Dollar Stores you go to, but I haven't seen Anything like what you have in mine!!
    :(
Betty...I liked your candle holders too. Kathleen had a good suggestion with putting the napkins on the plate or glasses, which always adds an extra 'flare'. If you were close enough, I'd lend you my grandma's candle holder, so you can see if you liked that look...lol

    Kathleen...the red table is stunning.

Slinkey, mine is the Dollar Tree. The red plates, bowls, glasses all from there. I pick through the napkins and sometimes they have Martha's 2 for 1...
I know J has found some good things at the $1 store, and I have to admit I was never in one till this forum!

Yes, Luvs, show us your blues, come out and play!

Betty, I love those candle lamps, they are very pretty! Next time you are in Michaels or somewher like that pick up a few faux flowers, always good in a pinch to jazz up the table..

Ohhhhhh L-a-d-i-e-s....(and Jims of course) DH took me to Ross last night (he was looking for shorts to wear lolling around in the evenings), but I was looking for dishes :^) They have some BEAUtiful red ones...plain, square bowls and bread and butters, with beading around the edge...sort of what Betty was describing....and they were quite reasonably priced. THEN, they had bits and pieces of blue and white Johnson Bros.....AND THEN, they had bits of Johnson Bros "Old Britain Castles". the cereal bowls just HAD to go home with me...ahhhhhh....

Here is a link that might be useful: red and white

Those are really pretty red/white transferware, Jaybird. I'm sure you are going to enjoy using them. The red plates sound quite pretty too.

Do you think the prices on the dishware has gone up at Ross, Marshall's and Homegoods since we started on this forum? I sure do, plates that might have been $3.99 before are now $5.99 and up around here.

By the way, have you started dropping hints for a camera for your birthday or Christmas yet? We've gotta get you able to share your pretty creations with us on here. ;o)

    Luvs

Yes, I have dropped that hint...........for about 2 years :^( I think I will just have to go and buy the thing!!

Betty, it was such a treat to see you posting a table setting. And I also love blue! It looks like some normalcy is finally returning to your life. I hope Alfred gets a good report from his doc, and that he is regaining his strength and health. I think you should do like Kathleen and celebrate each evening with a tablesetting for the two of you...you certainly deserve to!

    hugs, Karen

    Critique your table?

I can't do it. All I can say is that I love your gobelets and... your candleholders.

Also, feel free to send your mirror to my house ;-)

I love your table. Whether the decoration on the plates seem to be chinese (am I wrong?) your plates look like Delft and I love it!

Betty, you did a great job, blue and white dishes is just so classic, as is the pattern you have (I have that pattern too). I am so glad you posted a tablesetting, you know how we all love eyecandy here :)

Thanks everyone for the compliments on my table. I had such fun working on it and then editing it.
I do so very much love the candle lamps, but they just didn't seem to go with this tablesetting.
Alfred and I stopped in an old hardware store that someone had turned into an antique store and I found some candleholders and some S/P shakers.
I though I would let you set how it turned out. I will even share dinner. Didn't have much time to perfect the presentation and didn't make the wonderful lemon/pineapple pudding recipe that I found here on the garden web. The 2 grandsons were here and it was really busy.

I took the clear crystal knife rests off of the table. Luvs, I took your suggestion for the dessert cups (since there was no pudding as planned) and put a white rose in each.

    Dinner was:

My shrimp scampi with added chicken (son's request)

    A quick tossed salad

Mixed fresh fruit with peaches from a local orchard- soooo sweet.

    And of course iced tea.

The boys hurriedly ate the shrimp and ran back outside to catch the last of the evening light to play. Didn't touch the salad or fruit.
But, Alfred and I enjoyed it. I think he enjoys the new dish addiction too!

Great finds at that antique store, Betty. Very pretty.
And your food looks wonderful too. You are on a roll here, and I bet Alfred is loving how nice it all is. If any guy deserves some spoiling and pampering its him....and I'm so glad to see you having FUN finally.

    hugs, Karen

Wow! You found the perfect candleholders and salt and pepper shakers. Way to go. Oh, oh, not another food poster! Don't you all know my waistline is already outta control????? LOL Luvs

I remembered that I have some blue and white plates I haven't shared here before. Thought I'd play a bit and see if I could gather up enough items to make some type of centerpiece to go with them. Here's three attempts with just things I had around the house. Each time I try to do this, I realize how hard it is to create something that looks "special". See what you think of my feeble efforts. Luvs

    Oh Luvs,
Silly girl. You won't get fat. I left the bread off. And we just won't count the noodles!

I LOVE the bird/birdcage table. I have a small birdcage that was used in DD's wedding. I will have to find a bird for it. What a great idea. But the poor bird in the cage will get jealous of the one that's free.
I have some beautiful blue faux hydrangeas that I got for my blue table and didn't use that would look great in the pitcher. The daisys in the daisy picture are darling too.

Betty, so glad you are up to playing and even better that Alfred is enjoying it. It all looks lovely, and the candlesticks, wow!

Sorry I am late to post, but we had our 4 gkids here, 7 and under, and it was like the wild wild west!

Luvs, how pretty those plates are, and I love blue with daisies...and the birdcage is precious.

Hope I have time to play again soon!

Betty, I'm late posting but think your table looked terrific as is. The only suggestion I would have had was a few fresh or silk flowers and you did that with the roses in the dessert cups. Your food looks delicious too. I'm sure it made Alfred appreciate being home all the more!

Luvs, your centerpiece ideas look great. My favourite is the pitcher of daisies - goes well with the white and blue of your plates.

Thanks DD, I'm glad you are able to catch up on all the posts you've missed. It is so fun to come here and see some eye candy and then read everyone's sweet comments. ;o) Luvs
