So SLOW!

I should remember this, but I don't as my memory is gone!

We just built a house 2 years ago, and the whole process was so slow... and I can't use that house as a comparison. The son who worked for his father was LAZY. We walked in so many times as he laid on the floor sleeping - or chatting away on the cell phone. Painters where ther for 6 months!!

Anyway, we are building a new home AGAIN, and things have been moving along just great - no complaints! Now, after 5½ months, we are ALMOST DONE!! yippee. However, I guess there is a period that seems like nothing much is happening? On the exterior - everything is done except pool cage and pool finish & fill. For the interior, all trim, doors, paint and cabinet boxes (not doors) are installed. Toilets are set, and hanging lights go up on Monday. The only thing left that I can see is the granite counter-tops, hardwood flooring and sinks - plus put on the cabinet doors and fix the kitchen island that was not done correctly. so close - yet we aren't expected to get a CO until middle late May. Anyone else at this point?

tinker, I WISH we were at that point. Middle may sounds pretty darn good, especially considering your start date. I know you have had LONG builds, but this one is coming to an end. I can't imagine how anxious you are to get into the house.

We started about the same time as you I believe (last week in November) and we are just starting to tape our sheetrock, which is finally all hung. I'm tearing my hair out wanting to see everything come together. Waiting is definitely the hardest part, but you are so close. Hang in there and plz post pictures when you've got 'em!

2 years ago!!! I thought we were crazy. We just built 5 years ago and are doing it again.

I wish we were at that point. We are 14 months into this process (DH doing a lot himself) and I don't see an end in site. Hopefully we will have insulation within the week.

Good luck and enjoy your new home.

OH I think you are moving along good! LOL! Took us 9 months to get in our house....should have been 5. You want to talk slow. Our house sat with nothing done on it for a month! LOL! Good luck and glad you are close to the end!

We're right with you. Our kitchen is done (except for a few small items), the pool is waiting for plaster and a fence, and we're trying to get dirt out of the water lines, the county needs to approve our "AS BUILT" grading plan and the fire department needs to give us the okay on the water tanks. Then....we can get our CO, which we're hoping will happen next week. I gave notice at my rental, I sure hope I don't have to live in the motorhome......

I am happy with the progress, but I can hardly wait to unpack and finally settle in! For the Last FOUR years we have been in a different home for Christmas - that's insane!

jaymielo, yes - we did start about the same time. I will keep watching and checking this forum to see how everyone else is progressing!

jenanla, we are a bit crazy I think at times. This is our FIFTH home we have built in the last 21 years!! We must have a good marriage to survive all these! The home we built in the year 2000 was a DIY and it took all of 2½ years to complete. And truthfully - it really only got 100% completed when we went to sell it!

kelly, I have watch your progress and been with you during your build! Everything looks so wonderful - it won't be long for us now - I know!

krislrob, I have lived in our motor home a LOT in the past 3 years during our move from FL to TN. 3 of us lived in the RV for 6 months in TN as we waiting for the house to finish (was suppose to take 5 months - took 1 year). No way was I doing that again, so when we returned to FL we rented a house, and our lease is up June 3rd. We should make it! I am anxious to see what my 'stuff' looks like as everything has been packed up in boxes for so, so long now!

I agree, it takes a good marriage to get through the home building process. This is our second home in 5 years, and we also did a complete "gut" of a 3-family 5yrs. before.

I keep saying never again, but DH says "Never say Never"

BTW, current house isn't finished yet, we'll have to do that when we put it on the market.

Fifth home?? Oh my! I bow down to you in awe!!!!! You and I will be spending our first Christmas this year in our new homes! DD has not had a real Christmas in forever. Always at someone else's house or at a hotel! LOL! Wait until you unpack your boxes. I was like a little kid. I had forgotten all the things I had and got so excited every time I opened a new box. I even opened up my Christmas stuff to see what we had!!!

Is this going to be the last house????? I would die if DH came home right now and said he wanted to build again. I would smack him!
