Decorating for Fall

Hello Everyone! When do you start decorating for Fall? I'm anxious to start decorating even though it's 90 degrees here in Maryland!

I start as soon as I can get away with it :^) Fall is my FAVorite time of the year, and doesn't last nearly long enough!!! As a matter of fact, I already have a few things done, and will get it all in gear next week sometime!
It's good to have you here and we'll be looking for pictures/descriptions of what you are doing....for fall, and for any other reason you can think of!!! We grasp any excuse at all to decorate a table or make up a vignette somewhere!!!
    Welcome!!!

Why thank you Jaybird! Fall is my favorite time of the year too. That's why I can't wait to start getting out my fall things. I've already been burning my fall candles just to get that yummy smell in the air. I'm in the process of making "pumpkin topiaries" for my front porch. Does anyone happen to know where I can get stacking pumpkins? Most of the ones I've found are more round and tall and I need some that are more flat for stacking. I'll show a link from a catalog of what I'm trying to reproduce. Thanks!

dbarr, your Fall tree is simply GORGEOUS. I sent the link on to my DD and DDIL and BF. Know they've never seen a Xmas tree done up this way. Its great.

So hard to think Fall it's been 110 here. I probably will start doing some decor early Oct even tho the 100s aren't gone till first of Nov usually. I've never done decorating for Holidays except Xmas till I met all of you, now I'm kind of hooked. To say the least.
It was Judith and those stacked plates in the beginning, LOL. Love them.

    hugs, Karen

Thanks! I had never thought about it either, until my DD got married last year. The building we rented for the reception had a huge one decorated and I just loved it. I went home and dug out my tree and just kind of threw things together. I added to my collection of "Ornaments" this year. Everyone who sees it just loves it!

Major fall decorating is done. A bit of tweeking is all that is left. I am not decorating for Halloween this year as my DD is now 16 soon to be 17. I am simply doing "fall" decorating. My family thinks I've gone round the bend, but oh well.

Fall is my absolute favorite time of year. I can hear my sweaters and jeans calling my name. Changing the wardrobe is next. Now that job I hate.

I like doing some Fall decorating, I also enjoy Halloween dec, I don't do to much of it, but I enjoy putting some things outside and in the house. The pumpkin topiaries are very nice that you linked to!

Labmomma, you are back! You used to post quite often, hope you'll do that again.

I like to decorate for Fall too, but it had just been too hot to think about Fall yet here. Finally dropped down into the 80's, and it is just wonderful. Might get me motivated to start digging out/making some Fall decs now. Hooray!

Robbyrob, I've been seeing lots of variations of those stacked pumpkins this year, and I really like them too. Lots of pumpkins in the stores, but can't say I've seen any that are more squat like those needed for stacking. Good luck in your search, and be sure to come post pics for us when you get your's made.

I am on the lookout for a big squatty one too. I can take the live trees I have by the entry and do that....I'll let you know if I find any...
Has any one googled a squatty pumpkin??? hmm that sounds strange!!

I saw some squatty ones at Michaels but not sure they are big enough for what you want. I didn't go thru the whole bin tho lots of shapes and sizes in there. You'd have to cut off the stem on the ones to stack of course. I am thinking about trying some myself now. Tho would like to get the pumpkins with 40% off coupon, the big ones at least.

    Karen (still 104 here)

I'm off to search for squatty pumpkins today! I may have to use the smaller ones and just fill in around the base with fall leaves. I could even attach some weather-proof gourds around the base to give it a full look. purplemoon, 40% off is right up my alley. The whole reason I want to do it myself is that it was so expensive in the catalog. Thanks for the tip! I may also stop by HomeGoods, my weakness!

dbarr91, what a beautiful tree! That is such a clever idea.

40 off is the only way to go, ACMoore too if you have one. You can get the coupon for AC on line, not Michaels though, unless they changed.
I am sure you can make it for way less than the catalog!!

Might be pretty to make a mini version of that topiary, to put on a fireplace mantle or table. Lots of faux pumpkins the right size at Michaels or Walmart too for that. And those urn type vases too are easy to find in small versions. I think the design could be adapted to most any size. The mantle one is now tempting me!

    hugs, Karen

purplemoon, attached is a link for the smaller topiaries in the same catalog. They'd be beautiful on a mantle or sideboard.

Robby, the small ones are even more gorgeous than the big ones I think. Love it, thank you for photo. Now I know I must do this. Looking at the pumpkins, they are not just solid orange. So I may have to add some color wash to ones I buy as I like this effect.
    Wonderful idea for the mantle!!!!

Those small ones are cute too, I like the Fall leaves/greenery poking out from inbetween them.

I just finished my dining table and my mantle for fall. I'll probably tweak this a bit then for Halloween.

I'll add the link to the Tablescapes page on my blog below (they're second down from the top). You also might enjoy the Mantle pics in the same section.

By the way, if you encounter dead links on other pages of that section, please forgive me- I was having tech issues yesterday when I uploaded. Things should all be fixed tomorrow.

Don't ya hate it when your ideas are better than your ability to work the technology? :-)

Hope everyone had a great week last week! (It was strangely unnaturally stressful for us at work, which is why I was AWOL. :-) )

Jenn, it is fun to set the table just as part of your decorating, isn't it? Most of us on here do that too, because we don't really entertain that much but we want to enjoy the pretty dishes we have.

I can tell you love your round mirror because it reflects the items you sit on it, but wonder if you might want to try a few silk leaves scattered around it to soften the edges a bit. It's making me think contemporary when I know that is not your style. You certainly have some pretty candleholders and dishes. Thanks for sharing your pics.

Now I need to get on the ball and do some decorating for Fall too. Just that I am just now enjoying summer since it has cooled off a bit. It was just miserably hot for most of the summer this year.

Oh I almost forgot to tell Robbyrob that I really enjoyed browsing through that site. Saw some pumpkins with painted designs on them that I think I could imitate. Of course they are on gorgeous candleholders which I don't have. ;o(

Karen, did you browse through that site. Lots of neat rooster stuff, and a set of bunnies too!

And Kathleen, did you see those pretty fall topiaries?

Thanks for sharing the site. Think I'll check Walmart for faux pumpkins, and if no success there, I'll try Michael's. Hope you find the perfect ones for the stacked topiary, it is really neat and so elegant looking.

Luvs, good idea with the leaves!-- I'll have to try that! I do probably over-use the round mirror, but it works so well to bring light into the middle of the room where there otherwise isn't much.

I hope if you go for making some of the painted pumpkins, we'll get to see your good work! :-)

dBarr, do you mind me putting your Fall tree photo in my Photobucket? I like to save neat pictures and share at times with others of course.

Luvs, I get that catalog and also look thru it online. So don't know why I hadn't seen the pumpkin topiaries. Just been distracted I guess.

    hugs, Karen

Karen, you go right ahead and add the pics to your photobucket. I love saving pics of ideas too! I hope to add some more of other fall decor soon.

Wasn't it Judith and Sandi who liked the seasonal fairies? Did you see the ones on this site? There's a harvest fairy, a pumpkin pie fairy, etc. Think I have been through most of the pages now, nice site and some really cute, but pricey, things.
