That looks really cute Donna. I like the way you did the garland. Bet that really brightens up that whole area. Good job! Luvs

I thought about adding some clear lights to the garland before putting it on the ladder. That would have made it even prettier. But where I wanted to place it (where it's at now), the electrical outlet is behind the piano. It's a pain getting behind there to plug and unplug the lights I use on the piano at Christams time. Maybe one of those timers would work, but I have no idea how to use one LOL.

Cute idea, Donna! I can definitely see you adding some tiny white or orange lights, wound around the two sides of it. As for how to use them, you don't need a timer but one of those remote switches. I have several. You can find them at Walmart, Target, HD and Lowes, among others. The latest one I got was a Target. It has what looks like a wall switch and then a plug device that you plug into the wall plug you'll be using. Plug the lights into that and use the remote switch, which you can put anywhere that's convenient, to turn the lights on and off with ease. I think I paid $10 for mine. This is where I keep the one I use for my fireplace lights in my living room. I have something very similar in my family room,as well.

It's called a remote switch? Is that what I ask for?

Donna, I googled Remote light switch+ Target and got a picture of this one they're showing. They call it a Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Remote Control light switch, I believe. It's $15.99 and, being indoor/outdoor, you can use it for your outside holiday lights later. I have one like this for mine. BTW, that box on the plug cord is only about 3" wide and long.

Cool Donna!! I have the ladder...now I have to get busy!!

Lynn, thanks for the info...I will swing by Target later today!

Thanks Lynn, I will definitely look for this remote light switch. Jaybird, I had been wanting to do something like this for years, but I didn't know where to find a plain ladder. There is a gift store about 6 miles south of us and my husband and I went in there one day. They had ladders!!! We paid $9.99 (plus tax) for it. Most of what is on my ladder are things I've had for years. There is a little glass candle holder that I put some candy corn in on the top rung. Those apples are candles, but I would never light them. So is the red cannister on the 3rd rung. They are there for display only. I don't care for the little scarecrow sitting on the second rung...his legs are jute. They need to be covered somehow, I just don't know how. There is a large spider I made using one section of an egg carton for the body and pipe cleaners for the legs. He's 2/3 of the way down hanging onto the fall leaves. The jackolantern flashes with different colors when turned on. I had fun making this, and I'm looking forward to changing it again for Christams.

That looks really good, Donna. Great idea, go vertical.

I love the remote controls for the Christmas trees, especially the one in the livingroom, where we put the presents. The presents are around it, and the sleigh is next to it, having a remote, keeps us from having to move things, or risk stepping on something.

I put one on my little year round tree in the dining room too, because it plugs in behind the dresser that it sits on. We have one for our outside lights, and I think we'll probably buy at least one more this Christmas.

Very pretty, Donna...And the remote is a good idea too!

    Donna,
I like the little guy that sits on the top rung. I enjoyed your explanation of all the items and I especailly liked it when you said you had fun putting it together. Last summer, when I was stressing over a patio dinner table setting, many of the regulars here kept me grounded by saying, "Have fun with this."
    Lynne,
That is such a clever way to camouflage the switch. I'm keeping an eye out for interesting little boxes now, as String Light Season is almost upon us.

the little pumpkin pulling a face? LOL I like him, too. Reminds me of the faces my son used to pull. That is why I bought him. Got him at Family Dollar Store this fall, so if you have a Family Dollar Store near you, they might have some there.

donna, love your ladder. Very pretty.

Remote in a box. Isn't that clever. Lord, where have I been? Living under a rock I guess.

    Donna,
Your ladder is beautiful. I would of never thought to decorate a ladder like that but it looks great. Seeing your cute scarecrow reminds me I should have one some where. LOL I thought I had found all of my decorations but guess I need to keep browsing.

Donna, I thought I'd posted before on this. I love your ladder. What a wonderful decorating idea. I wonder if I found one, could I display it without my cats climbing it and RE-decorating things? Probably not. One of them for sure would find it very amusing, sigh.

Donna, I love it! What a neat idea. I have an old ladder that I found washed up on the beach south of Nags Head years ago. DH still laughs when he remembers that I dragged that ladder waaaaaay down the beach to our truck to bring home.
Hey, all I can say is - it was already salt treated!!

Lynn, They have the neatest stuff now!

Brutues, If you had looked to your right you would have seen me beside you under that rock!! LOL

Donna, what a great idea to decorate a ladder and you have done an excellent job filling in the rungs! You have placed just the right amount of items and varied the heights/widths of them perfectly. Wonderful!
