Colored Grout bleeding

The grout in bathroom is bleeding when it gets wet. Will sealing the grout stop the bleeding? What can be done to remedy this?

    Define "bleeding".

When it gets wet is it getting blotchy, where the wet areas are turning dark? Then when it dries is it all the same uniform color again?

Or when it gets wet it the color literally bleeding out of the pigment, where water is dissolving the pigment/color in the grout and pigment-colored water is running down the surface of the wall tile?

I'm not the op, but my grout does turn dark when wet and then returns to the original color when dry. Is this normal? It is not sealed.

My new grout does this too. We have biscuit tile and grout, but it turns a darker tan when wet then back to biscuit when dry. We just assumed this was normal, is it not? Do we have to seal it or something?

When the shower is in use the grout will get wet and "discolor" to a darker color due to it being wet. When it dries, it'll return to the same uniform lighter grout color. All that is perfectly normal.

Grout discharging any sort of color is not normal. Well, maybe unless you live in Amityville.

One other thing came to mind regarding the op's predicament. Some of the box stores sell "premixed thinset" and "premixed grout" that comes in resealable plastic tubs. Those products are not at all related to portland cement-based thinsets and grouts. To a certain extent those premixed products are actually water soluble and they can re-emulsify if subjected to repeated wetting. If they re-emulsify, they can creep or flow out from between or from behind the tile joints.

    Wonderful stuff, eh?

Grout is a cement based product - just like your sidewalk - and will be darker when it is wet. Perfectly normal.

I would describe "bleeding" as the color of the grout when wet leaching out to other substances, ie towel, sock. We have a representative from the manufacturer coming out Thursday to investigate. Any suggestions? Thanks

The only suggestion I would have is to defer to his recommendations. Most likely, he'll want to do one of two things-- either score out the grout, or cover it up with a colorant. The only thing I'd watch for is if he tries to lay it on the installer saying he didn't mix it well enough, which is crap. Even if it's not mixed well, it would show in the coloring of the joints, but it still shouldn't leech out, so you might bring that up if he tries (and there's a good chance he will.) Who's the manufacturer?

New grout in a kitchen backsplash. Leeches out a gray/black color when clean water gets on it. When I wipe with clean paper towel stains the paper towel doesn’t return to uniform color even when dry. what up there? Any info on this?

Best bet is to start your own thread. Add pictures and describe the entire installation process, grout type and brand, how it was mixed, how it was applied, etc, etc.

My question.. we had our whole house tiled about 2 months ago. I noticed than when I'm down cleaning, the color of the grout (charcoal) transfers to the sponge or towel I'm using. They said there was a sealant in the grout. Should I be seeing this and if so how long will it continue to come off? Thanks in advance.

Seems like a common issue with these performance non Portland cement grouts. Not sure why but there seems to be a common issue across the board for all brand like mapei, tec, polyblend etc. Grout that is very finicky and doesn't cure as hard as Portland cement counterparts and also gets soft when wet. Pretty annoying that these are still being pushed on the market with the above issues. It's more noticeable on colored grouts since cleaning white grout you wont really notice the color transfer on the sponge or towel etc vs black or grey.

I'm even having issues with my grey grout leaving darker color pigments at the surface of the grout
