My Fall Decor

I'm not sure how different these are from last years pictures. I use mostly the same thing every year. It just sort of depends on the order in which I take them out of the tubs.

This is the little tree in my dining room that I decorate for seasons and holidays.

W/o lights

and with lights.

More dining room.

The fireplace in the den.

The livingroom fireplace.

I thought we could edit here, but I can't figure it out right now. I just wanted to add that a couple of the larger pumpkins are jackolanterns, which I'll turn around in a week or so, I also have some bats, and ghosts and some ceramic jack-o-lanterns to put out. I think next time the grandsons are over, I'll let them help with that.

nana, I love that little tree, it's so pretty lit up. I also like the use of those blue candles and the blue pitcher, with your orange, never would have thought of using blue, but it's really pretty.

Two fireplaces, well, I'm jealous. I like the lantern on the first one.

You can edit before you submit, but not after, I don't think.

I think alot of us use the Jack O Lanterns & turn them around, saves space & buying two different kinds of pumpkins!!

Gail...I agree with yachter I really like the combination of the blue with the orange too. Both colors really compliment each other so well, and I like how you arranged everything. It's a nice cozy look. Did you cut a branch to make that tree, or is that a store bought one? The reason I ask, is that's what I'm thinking of doing (cutting a large branch)...lol I really like that you put lights on it. I wouldn't have thought of that idea.
Both of your mantels are very pretty and are decorated with nice arrangements. I like that each has a different look and feel. I'm jealous that you have Two!!
I'm also liking that horse by the den fireplace. Is he an antique and is he made of wood? He's really special looking. From what I'm getting a 'glimpse' of..your home looks very lovely.

Gail, you have done a wonderful job getting your home ready for fall! Everything looks great! I agree with the others that I wouldn't have thought to put orange and blue together but it works so well - your walls are a lovely colour. Lucky you, getting to decorate two mantels!

    Very pretty, NC...Looks so cozy!
I do that too with the jackolanterns..those 2 faced things!

    Thank You, Ladies!

Yachter, Jane and DD, I have had a sofa for years, that is orange and blue, so I've used those colors in the living room. The dining room is blue and has a more salmony orange. I would have changed the candles, but I can't find orange tapers. It seems like it's getting really hard to find them.

We really only have one fireplace. I bought the mantle in the den, at a junk shop, a long time ago when we lived in base housing. I spent months stripping lots of paint off it. When we bought this house, there was a spot for it on the otherside of the wall from the real one. Because it's opposite the other one, people usually think it's real.

    Thanks, Kathleen, funny line.

Beautiful! Now you've given me inspiration for next year. :) The picture will definitely go into my inspiration album.

I also agree that it looks cozy. Very understated and "natural" looking.

NC, I saw orange tapers in Michael's..but you are right. It seems the candle selection is getting smaller, or at least the reasonably priced ones anyway!

Again, it really looks so inviting!

Love that tree, and it looks great lighted too. How did you put the leaves on? With hooks or a dab of hot glue--just wondered since you said you decorate it for each season. The other things that really caught my eye are your baskets full of pretty fall flowers? They look so full and lush, do you make them yourself? I do the pumpkin turnaround thing too--saves storage space! LOL Thanks for sharing pics of your decor and your cozy home with us. ;o)

Nana, that mantle is gorgeous & I suppose you picked it up for a song!

Don't you love bargains, it looks like a million bucks!

Everything is so pretty! I especially like the baskets of Fall flowers next to your fireplaces. What a great touch! I also love your idea of adding the lanterns to the mantel. Do you use them year round? And I thought that I was the only one who turned my jack-o'-lanterns around until Halloween! Thanks for sharing all your pretty things with us.

Jane, I'm sorry I forgot to answer the little rocking horse is wood and he's not antique. He's actually a Christmas decoration, but I leave him there year round.

I brought the tree back from the Smoky Mountains a few years ago, it was a fixture in a souvenier shop that was going out of business. I paid $5 and hubby grudgingly agreed to give it a ride home, but now he likes it. I don't know how they used it, but it has little round magnets glued all over it. I attached the leaves by using little metal washers over the stems, and a few are hung by threads.

Yachter, I paid $20 for that mantle, but I put a lot of elbow grease into it. Hubby would have done it for me, but I might still be waiting ;-)

Kathleen, I will look for tapers again, the next time I go to the larger Michaels in Raleigh.

Lynne, sometimes the lanterns are there and sometimes not, sort of depends whether I'm decorating for a reason, or just everyday.
    Thank you all. - Gail

Well darn, I thought I posted last night but apparently didn't. I LOVE that little tree, and have the picture of it lit saved to go in our Inspiration album. The whole vignette with it is so lovely. But EVERYTHING looks wonderful. The way you do the big floral baskets especially.
I so love seeing FAll pictures since we don't get any change here in Phoenix with colors to even know there's such a thing. I'd probably go nuts if I could see REAL trees turning all the shades of autumn. I keep looking at photos and dreaming about Fall tho.

oh, also Gail, that horse is very special. I'd leave it out all year too. I'm as horse-crazy as I am about the dog stuff I collect. LOL.

    hugs, Karen

    Gail,
I think I remember your tree from last year's christmas decor. It looks great in its fall version too - just perfect. I too really liked the lanterns on your fireplace. And you paid 20$ for that gorgeous mantle in your den?? Wow, thats wonderful and I understand what you mean by waiting if your DH were to do the work! LOL.

Love all your fall decor but especially how you are able to work it in with your existing decor. That little horse makes a statement there - I would keep it out all year too!

Gosh! I just hate being out of the action. Your decorations are so nice. The little tree is neat. I'm hoping to be able to put up a little bit of my fall stuff the week before Thanksgiving. I'm going to use that tree as my inspiration.

And, by the way, I don't believe you - you do too have 2 fireplaces. Honestly, I don't know which one is the fake. Both look pretty neat to me.

Isn't Fall so cozy and inviting!? I love all the Autumn accents in your home. I'm jealous of your 2 mantles. I'm still hoping for 1 some day. I'll have to look at jack-o-lanterns more closely before I buy any more to see how they look on both sides so I can get 2 holidays out of them, too! I need a seasonal tree, too. Very cute.

Thank you, Karen, I'm not from NC, but I will say that one thing they do well here is autumn, it's long and beautiful here. Right now we're still in the high 70s low 80s and the only a few of the trees have begun to turn, autumn will go on into late November.

OA, you must be Canadian, I envy you all having your Thanksgiving early, so that you can start your Christmas decorating.

Cindy, as I said, the mantle in the den only cost $20 dollars and some elbow grease, and I still see them around for that price. My sister and her hubby built one a couple of years ago. They don't have room for it year round so they just bring it out for Christmas and I think it's beautiful.

Thank you all for looking and commenting, hugs. - Gail

I just realized that we entered Fall and I'm so cold! For once, the weather here has been splendid for three entire months! So, believe it or not, it's hard to enter the cold season - and we do it very quick here as since yesterday it's cold and raining :(

And while looking at your pictures, I had a WARM sensation. I like the first display, it's the warmest of all - but all are nice too, indeed.
