If to ceiling, just make it a second / display tier. Little easy access at that point. Of course, and it's a biggie, depends on the rest of your cabinetry design/style, intent of function.

after doing many kitchen renos, I would DEFINITELY go up as far as you can and do not believe they have to be glass front doors. We ALWAYS seem to need more storage space in our lives....just make sure to have a functional step ladder handy!

Sometimes it is nice to change it up a bit and put textured glass in instead of clear glass, by doing this you still have the contrast from cabinet to glass and it still allows for light to shine through but it conceals your items a bit more. Not everyone has lots of items that they want displayed.

I would put glass at the top of the cabinets, but light it up with recessed lights. Also, you seem to have a lot of space in the center of the room. Have you considered an island/breakfast bar?

yes and light 'em up! Puck lights all around the perimeter and a better light in the center. Interesting room... Good Luck!
