Red Transferware

Hi All...I've been Busy these past few days, rearranging things around my house. This was one of the projects I got accomplished.

This past year, I started Collecting Red Transferware.

I've collected enough pieces, that I thought I'd mix them in with my White Ironstone Collection.

So, the other day, I changed my usual Blue & White for the Red.

This Little White Hutch, is off my Kitchen. DH made this for me about 20 yrs ago, when we lived in our old house. It originally had a Natural Maple Finish and had Glass Doors. When we moved here 3 yrs ago, I had him remove the doors and paint it in an Antique White Finish.

I got the Old Britian Castles from Antique Shops, Ebay, and Flea Markets... I also was able to get Soup/Cereal and Dessert Dishes.

I bought these plates last month at the Stormville Flea Mkt

for $1 each. They are Taylor,Smith & Taylor - English Abby

Most of the Ironstone Pieces were from Estate Sales and Auctions.. I bought the little white Teapot at a Thrift Store for $3.

I bought the Large Teapot at an Estate Sale for $3.50

the little tureen was $1.

This was from a Local Thrift Store in Town for $5.

Well...hope I didn't bore you with my collection. I've got lots more stashed around here and there. It seems I just can't get rid of the collecting 'Fevor'. As I mentioned...we moved here 3 yrs ago, I was supposed to Downsize!!

If I had more walls.. I'd have DH put up more shelves or make more hutches...can you imagine what trouble I'd be in?

Your new red dishes look just wonderful, mixed with the ironstone and displayed that way. It's just beautiful, definetly not boring! I need better places to shop. - Gail

That looks beautiful, Jane..What a lovely collection! You found great bargains!
Will you leave it that way for Cmas? I can just see it with greens tucked in...or do you put your Cmas dishes and things there??
    It looks just wonderful!

Jane, looks like you have a great collection. I'm looking forward to seeing your table set with your new dishes. How long have you been collecting your new red set? I really like your hutch painted. TFS Punk

I can't get over this and keep scrolling back up to look at it more.

Now, why did you have to go and do that? I DO NOT have any more room to store dishes! But, that red transferware is soooo pretty. I've fallen in love with the English Abby. And I don't even like red!! OK, change that to I didn't like red before now.

And that little tureen is precious. I can just see a soup and sandwich lunch for one on a cold winter's day featuring that little beauty.

They don't have prices like that around here.
I'm with Gail. We need to follow you when you go shopping!

My favorite is the hutch. DH has been trying to carve out enough time to try his hand at making a cabinet for my kitchen. Maybe if I said that is what I want for Christmas he would finally get on it.

He just last night finished putting down the transitional pieces in the doorways where he had laid my tile in the den and dining area a year and 1/2 ago. But I hadn't fussed too much. After his accident in June '08 I've just been happy to sit and look at him and be thankful I still have him.

But, now while he is in the home improvement mood... LOL

PS- Downsize is not a word in our vocabulary here :)

I don't stop in here often, but today, with the holidays approaching, I decided to make a visit and see what's cooking. I love red transferware, and your collection is lovely. I've been collecting it on and off for quite a few years, but lately I have just plain run out of room (I know, I know, there's always the closets to hold until I can rotate collections). But the following statement really excited me:

"I bought these plates last month at the Stormville Flea Mkt."

As in Stormville, Dutchess County, NY? If that's so, then I'm your neighbor! I live in Wiccoppee, which is a stone's throw away from Stormville. And when you say a "little thrift store in town", I'm wondering if you're referring to the consignment shop by the old A & P in Brinckerhoff, or the one on Route 82 between Hopewell and the Taconic. The only one I haven't been to is the one on the corner of Route 376 & Myers Corners Road, but I'm planning on stopping there this week on my way home from work (I work for the WCSD).
    Hello, neighbor (waving wildly).

Beautiful, it looks so good with the white. And your cabinet turned out soooooooo cute. I know what you mean about collections. I have a ton of blue willow that I haven't had out in years.

Bore us?!?! OMG, no . . . I love it! Jane, your collection is wonderful and I love how you've displayed it in your white hutch. How pretty! You've found so many beautiful pieces, and for such great prices, too. Thanks for sharing your great collection with us!!

What great eye candy! I agree that your red/white looks so nice with your white pieces. I really love all the white pieces you have collected, such pretty shapes on all the pitchers, teapots, and soup tureens. I can relate to "downsizing" and "not having much wall space" since I'm in the same stage of life. I keep looking for ways that I could squeeze in one more cabinet or hutch! LOL Thanks for sharing your collections with us--both are gorgeous!

Jane, you just had to do that didn't you!!??!! Oh my, look at all that pretty red and white. Your DH did a lovely job with the cabinet..congrats to him as well!

Betty, we are glad that you get to look at him too...we were scared for both of you!

Welcome Mrs.Marv!! I'm glad you got over this way...now we need some pictures of your goodies too!

    Hugs to all of you,

Oh, Jane, thats soooo beautiful. I spent a long time looking at your pics - there is so much to see there! Not only are the red & white transferware dishes gorgeous, the way you have arranged everything in the hutch is fabulous. Very balanced and lovely looking! And I bet it will look gorgeous with your christmas decor.

You have some beautiful white pieces too - I am drooling over the tureens and pitchers.

I am curious - How do the platters stand on the shelves? I can never get them to stand straight up without using the easel things.

    Thanks

Your cabinet is just beautiful with all those gorgeous dishes! The red and white just "pops"! What an eyecatcher! I bet you set beautiful tables at Christmas, Valentines, 4th of July, etc.! I wish I could find bargains like that, but then I'd run out of room, too.

Sorry I took so long in replying here..I had lots of errands today.
Thank You All, for such nice compliments. I'm so glad you liked what you saw. I'm still fiddeling around with the correct lighting on my camera. The color in my pictures, is still a little washed out. Anyway...

ncnana..It took me awhile to find the right places to shop for the right prices. I spent many a Saturday bargain hunting at all sorts of sales..mainly out of necessity!! lol

kathleen...that's a nice idea with using Greens for Christmas. I do usually use this cabinet around the holidays. I display my Halloween/Christmas things. With this new look...I might be thinking differently on how to set it up.

phonegirl.. My first piece was many years ago. It's a large platter with a Thanksgiving scene on it...I got it at an auction for $4. It's very old and,is in the Hutch w/another small dish in front of it. As far as all the Old Britian Castles...I started this past year. My first 'Big' score was last winter in an old shop. I got several pieces -Large Bowls, cereals, cups & saucers..and small plates for $20! That got me going. Then on Ebay, during the Summer, when it was slow, I got some good deals on the Platters.
Little by little I started finding more pieces. I've got about 15 plates now besides other pieces. I'd love to get the S&P and a gravy boat.

Karen..I'm lucky DH likes to 'make' things. He likes to keep busy..even before he was retired he was always 'puttering'...from Rennovating our Old House...to Furniture, to Boats, to Toys and many Board Games. By the way...this wasn't his line of work.. he calls it therapy!! I guess it keeps him out of trouble!! lol

betty...I know, You & I are Blue & White Gals...but once I got a glimps of the Red in someone's china cabinet..I started getting 'pangs'!!
I agree with Jay...I'm so happy you can 'Enjoy Looking At Him' - ALL you want...What joy to know that there will be many great days ahead, to plan for that new Hutch together!

mrsmarv..nora..Welcome!! I used to live in Lower Westchester now I'm in CT. We have lots of Family in the Hopewell/Stormville Area.
Do you know the Pastry Garden Bakery? It's family owned. Small world..huh?
Also, we've been going to Stormville Flea Mkt...since it's beginnings. I was just there for the Ultimate Yard Sale..(see my earlier post)..where I'm 'Sharing The Experience' with everyone here. I love that place!!
When you say you work for WCSD...is that Westchester County? Once again, Welcome, and I hope to see more of you here..everyone is Very Friendly. YOu get lots of great ideas for not only Holidays but for Everyday.

syble...Break Out That Blue Willow and Show It Off..Come On Now....we'd Love for you to share it with us. Everyday counts...and We're Waiting!!

lynn...glad you weren't bored. I have to say, I'm a Big Fan of ALL that you show here..and the fact that we all share such different tastes and ideas.. really makes this site so interesting and fun.

Luvs...I'm laughing that you feel the same about finding more space to 'squeeze' things in. Sometimes I just sit here and look around to see if I'm missing a 'Spot' to add something! Betty's right ...Downsizing is Not in our Vocabulary!!

jay...I'll pass the compliments on to DH..he'll enjoy that.
I agree with you, Mrsmarv needs to Share pics of her goodies with us...lol

Mo...what I use to hold the platters and plates in place, is tacky stuff, almost like a playdoah. I put a tiny amount on the back of the platter,(and sometimes on the bottom of the plate) and press it in place. It's extremely strong and stays in place until I remove it.

cindylouhoo...Sometimes it's hard to decide what to use when you have too much!! lol I did lots of bargain hunting when I was in my first home, out of necessity (lack of money). I do find that I'm more selective now with what I buy, because of having too much and not enough space. I do 'weed out' things every now and then..sometimes with regret!!

Thanks again all...looking forward to seeing some 'Goody Sharing' from our new friends here.

Sorry I'm late to post on this Jane but of course, I just HAD to! What a beautiful display! When I read the title of the post, I thought it would be pics of a few pieces you might have just acquired (which would have been nice too)and was so pleasantly surprised to see what it actually was about! All of the pieces are lovely and the hutch your DH built is terrific but it takes a real talent to be able to put the two together in such a striking and fabulous manner! I just love how you have arranged everything with attention to colour, height, width, etc. Wonderful, wonderful job! TFS!

    Jane,
I love your collections. I am a collector-aholic myself. You have a great hutch in which to display some of your items. I love seeing other people's collections and I get a lot of pleasure hearing the stories that go with each piece. You can bet no one on this forum finds your post boring. This is the right place to share you pretty things. Keep it up.

"Do you know the Pastry Garden Bakery? It's family owned. Small world..huh?"

Of course we do...they made DH's and my wedding cake almost 20 years ago. At that time they were only located in Poughkeepsie. Now we have one in Hopewell Junction, too ;o)

DD thank you for the nice compliments. It does take 'two'...I have to admit. However, if did a crummy job...his 'Hutch' would not Shine!! lol

OA..how sweet of you to say such nice things..and not being bored! I also enjoy reading about the little 'tid bits' that go along with someone's collection...it's nice to know others like it too.

mrsmarv!!! It Truly IS a small world!! I can't get over that they made your Wedding Cake...LOL >> Yours and the Rest of the World!! Seems I'm always running into people who know their bakeries. They have 4 now. Their daughter runs the one in Hopewell.
