Not enough quota is available to process this command.

Woke up at 3 am this morning to find I lost my DSL connection etc. Called co and talked with tech who tried to reset it from long distnce. couledn't get it to work I was told to go to RUN and oput in command and then ping and we got this notice "Not enough quota is available to process this command." tech had never seen this come up. we tried a few things but nothing worked. I couldn't get a connection at all.

she said not enough memory but nothing has changed on what I do every day.

She gave me the number to caol the manuf of the computer Compaq.

I did a shut down and restart and was able to get on explorer (now the activity button on my modem is not lit up) I put that notice in google and got this message

"Close some applications and try again. If you still get this message, choose System from Control Panel, then choose Virtual Memory and increase the size of your paging file."

now I did this but couldn't find where I was asked about increasing the virtual memory. Can you help me out?

BTW my pie chart on space shows I hav about 25% free space

I don't dare get out of explorer again until I hear from you all'TIA

How to manually change the size of the virtual memory paging file XP

    http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/sysdm_advancd_perform_change_vmpagefile.mspx?mfr=true

    Vista http://www.windowsreference.com/windows-vista/change-the-size-of-virtual-memory-page-file-size-in-vista/

25% Free space. Time to start getting rid of files and free up more space your right on the edge of the 20% free space. Get rid of the junk so the operating system can work!

how much RAM do you have on there? hold down the windows logo key on the keyboard along with the Pause/Break key to find out. When you go to the area to change the page file size what is it saying should be the recommended size?
You can set minimum and maximum to what ever it is saying is the recommended size, when you change it be sure you remember to hit the set button

but on the modem you said it is showing no activity if that is the case I would unplug the power from the modem let it set for a few minutes then plug the power back in and see if you get activity lights, that usually means you have no connection coming into your modem. Tell us exactly what lights you see on the modem and what is happening with them.

I found an old file from PC Mag on how to change the virtual memory step by step and that did the trick.
I also ordered one of those Click-Free devices from QVC last week and will copy all my files when I get it . I deleted everything I had saved on my SeaDisk drive and will tfr most of my files over there until I get settled as to what I want to keep on this computer.
    Thanks for all your help

let us know if it stays fixed because often times it only last a short while if it is something else causing the problem, some infections can leave lingering weirdness like that too.
How much Ram did you have?

It says 2.00GHzof Ram (If I rread it right)

on my pie chart for C
    on the left it says
    34.4
    23.2
    11.1
    on the right it says
    31.9 gb
    21.6 gb used
    11,1 unused

so far so good this morning. I recently went from IE6 to IE8 (I have XP)

    minnie-
That 2.0 GHz is the speed of your computer, not the size of your RAM. And that pie chart relates to the size of your hard drive, not to the size of your RAM. Go to "My Computer" in your Start Menu, right-click on it; select properties, and look down toward the bottom of the window that opens where it will state the amount of RAM. Then report back.

OK it says 960 MB of Ram

One of my DS's is going to get me more memory (Does tht sound right?)

add to that 64 mb your graphic card has stolen and that means you probably have 1gb of RAM installed.

Thanks everyone for helping me to understand more of this stuff.

While 1GB should be enough basic RAM, a little more will be cheap and should improve performance.

You might want to visit the below link and let them
'Scan my sytem' to tell you how many of what sized memory modules are now installed and how many spaces you have to hold what size maximimum modules. Small active x module downloads when you click it...

mikie is this free? I have to agreeto terms of service and got confused let me know here tks

    its free
maybe you have to agree to not steal their technology and agree that if that activeX gives you the flu, you wont sue.
if it ruins your computer, you wont sue.
if it causes your car trunk to rust out, you wont sue.

You know, typical disclaimer that covers everything. Its totally free.

ok I did it but don't really understand it It said I currently have 1GB current memory
then listed a bunch of memory for sale should I be looking for some other info?

That's it. It should tell you how many slots you have and what memory you have in those slots, and it also tells you what kind of memory you can use and how much. Yes, they sell memory, but you do not have to buy from them. I have bought Crucial memory, and it is very good, but you might be able to find the same kind cheaper somewhere else, even at a local store on sale. But this does give you the information you need in order to purchase more memory.

My DS is getting me the memory I sent him the info on this site this morning and he said it is the site he went to yesterday to find out what I should have/get etc. Great minds run in the same channels (or something like that)
    Thanks again
