Front room living room/ Dining room remodel. Suggestions? :)

I have several large pieces in this room. I would like to put a sitting area somewhere in this room, but I am stumped... The grand piano is staying, but it is taking up so much room that I don't know where to put it. I would like to place a sofa and two accent chairs somewhere in this room. Suggestions?

hi Shamu18, marie here.
I'm afraid editing is key to the success of your space here. What you need to do is measure each piece, jot it down on a paper, then take dimensions of your room, and play with all these items in a free software online called icovia.com.

This will tell you that essentially, you do have too much stuff - by cramming more furniture in here renders the entire space useless. It is a journey of discovering what you absolutely must have, and how you want to use the space. Then designing the space to fully do that function.

Best to do up a space plan, and then assess from there. If you can afford a designer to come out and help you with this will ensure your success. Obviously, I'd design your space with the Grand Piano it is such a lovely asset to your home. Good Luck

Oh, and what could I do with window coverings?

How about a sofa in front of the window where the keyboard is? A decorative pole mounted at the division between the arch and the bottom of the window would be a good place to hang drapes and shut out some of the glare. Keep them light so the pole won't sway, as it looks like there is no place for a center support. If you need to cover the arch, they make some very attractive window film that can filter the light a bit. I think if you remove the clutter and items on the floor LOL, and re-shoot the pics in the evening about sunset, we'll be able to tell more about the space. Also take a shot from the corner with the tree back toward the stairwell.

Hope these pictures are better. The one with the mirror is from the corner with the tree. The house is in transition, thus the clutter. Lol I would like to place a sofa on the wall with the window but I would like to add other chairs and I don't know how to arrange it with the piano. :/ Definitely liking the drapes idea!

You have a lovely home Shamu18. Great ideas and photos Marie. What type of look are you going for? Casual, elegant, modern? Then you could tie together pieces. I agree to remove a piece or two and some of the decorative things that sit on the floor. Just a cleaner look. The table in front of the window could go to an office or a bedroom, just a suggestion. The massive mirror should be on a big wall, perhaps another room too. Orientate the furniture to have a focal point. Do you have a nice chair (see the pictures above). Have fun!

wecradon, hardwood is so gorgeous in a dining room with a nice area rug under the table if you want some warmth. (photo credit Houzz)
