Columbus Day

Yep! It's the real Columbus Day. And this is a theme table setting done on the quick.

Nothing special, just sort of a fun thing.

The material for the tablecloth came from a Garage Sale. The woman told me she used it to cover

a table for her son's pirate party. She hadn't washed it nor was it hemmed. Perfect for my needs.

The hat and telescope came from my teacher collection of junk.

They've been in the grandkids' dress-up bin for a few years.

The rest of the items you've seen before.

It's more like a table that's been set for dinner than a real tablescape.

I'll be keeping my eye out for items that might add more interest and try to create an upgrade next year.

I can't believe you had a Columbus hat and telescope and what a lucky find on the material. The pewter is perfect too. The only thing I can think of to upgrade this table would maybe be a ship. It's amazing what you can do "on the quick", it would take a week for me.

    OA...
    Very Creative..as usual!
Laughing over your 'Teacher Stash'...I can so relate.
The tablecloth worked out perfect for this theme.
Love the Red goblets and plates with the pewter pieces, and the chargers work perfectly for a nice rustic look. Centerpiece is very clever with the hat, old books and telescope...ahhh you did Chris proud!

Darn, I just lost my entire post here!
Well, I love your Columbus Day table, OA! That tablecloth fabric is so cool and really adds a lot to the tablescape. I've never seen anything like it before. Your centerpiece is priceless with that hat and spyglass! Love the red glassware and pewter pieces, too. They look perfect for the theme.
Did you know that out here in New Mexico, Columbus Day is hardly celebrated at all? With our huge Native American population, it's "the holiday that shall not be named". Not too many, including DH and DD (who are part Cherokee) think much of it, for obvious reasons. Having grown up in Michigan, where we always had a school party with food and crafts, I have nothing but good memories of Columbus Day . . . but now don't celebrate it, as it would tick off my family and Native friends.

OA...that fabric is perfect for C-Day! It could be a fun backgrd for "a trip around the world," too! Love the color combo of red & pewter & also like the chargers with the pewter plates & napkin rings.

Centerpc is quite innovative...but like candy, I am thinking a "ship!" How about printing one off ... rolling it up & inserting into a clear glass bottle! Nice wine bottle should do the trick! But I love the books, hat & telescope...always nice to have a "treasure chest," too...ummm, guess you found some of your teacher treasures! TFS this with us! Jeanne S.

Very creative as usual, OA. You sure have a wonderful stash of unusual "treasures" to use in your tablescapes--so fun! I have also noticed that you have several wonderful garlands to use--I think they add such a nice touch too. Great job! Luvs

OA, Honestly you come up with the best ideas. The hat the telescope the table cloth. Everything is just perfect.

How wonderful! OA, I just love looking at all your tables. You have the most creative ideas! I agree with Frou that a ship would be great to have next year.

Well, I'm thinking the ship idea is perfect. And unless my daughter has taken it to the Goodwill, I know Santa brought Miss Goosebumps a pirate ship for Christmas a couple of years ago. I'll have to see if she still has it and what kind of shape it's in. I think it was a Playmobile ship.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions.
Now you all, be careful. Don't fall into the Sea of Darkness.

OhsoAmazing, I thought I'd posted on this wonderful table!
Must've sank to the bottom of that sea. I LOVE your tablecloth, that is the most perfect piece for your Columbus Day! And your center-end piece, WOW.

Are you sure weren't a magician instead of a teacher? You've got more tricks up your sleeve, and pull more magic out the hat, than one would think possible!
At the very least, you must've been a stagehand considering your supply of 'props' seems to be endless.
    LOL.

Thanks for all the joy you bring,
    hugs, Karen

"At the very least, you must've been a stagehand considering your supply of 'props' seems to be endless."

Boy, Karen, you can say that again! I know we have several forum contributors that were in the education business and they all had to have an endless supply of props (Jane's posting above hints to that: "Laughing over your 'Teacher Stash'...I can so relate.") If the public only knew. . .

Just to put all my teacher junk in perspective, it's interesting to note that I had a Teacher Garage Sale 15 years ago when I moved from teaching primary grades to teaching middle school math and got rid of a lot of it. Imagine all the cwarp and corruption I'd have in my garage if I'd have retired still teaching second grade!
