What size vanity?

We are remodeling our small master bath. With the remodeling, we will have a 76" wide space (wall at each end) for our vanity. We want to have double sinks, but can't decide whether to do a 60" vanity (or two 30s) or a 72" vanity (2 36" together).

On one hand, we like the idea of havng more counter space, but if we did the 60", we were thinking we could do a small (12" or so) cupboard that would give us some much-needed extra storage (which would be more storage than we'd get from the larger vanity since we'd make the cupboard full length floor to ceiling). But I think the bigger vanity would be a cleaner look since you wouldn't have a cupboard at one end.

I can't decide! Would you go for the larger vanity or the extra storage?

Having the tall cabinet at one end won't necessarily look intrusive, depending on how the cabinet is designed. I have one at the end of my vanity; the drawers on the bottom section line up with the drawers on the opposite end of the vanity, and the upper portion is a cabinet...altogether it just appears as part of the vanity. I've seen them done where the middle section has a door or like an appliance garage that opens toward the sink, so it allows you to store hair dryers or frequently used items right next to the sink, but closed away. Personally, I wouldn't pass up the opportunity for more storage if you need it. You could also put a tall cabinet on the countertop separating the two sinks. That way you'd have all the vanity space and still have an extra cupboard. With 76" you could do two 24" sink bases with a 24" drawer base in between and a 24"x12"deep upper cabinet on the countertop.

I have a similar situation with my master bath. The vanity is 84 inches between two walls, so I can't fit the 72-inch vanity I was going to order. Instead, I am going to replace the old vanity with the same size cabinets that are already there. It has two 30" sink bases on each end with a 24" single drawer between them. The only change I'm making is that it will have a three-drawer 21" drawer base in the middle which will give us more storage and a little space for filler and scribe on each side.

I'd keep the long vanity and put a cabinet in the middle, either suspended or resting on the counter. 60" is pretty short for 2 sinks, and pulling them apart will make the room feel more spacious, even if you do love togetherness with your significant other.

I'd do the 2 @ 30 and a 12" drawer base in the lower middle with a maybe 8" deep cabinet resting on the counter top up as high as you want/it looks good/you can buy them in...

or the 2 @30 with a full depth cabinet floor up between them - completely separating the 2 sides. i'd look for a middle cab with drawers at the bottom - those drawers are so valuable in a bathroom.

get as much storage as you can out of the space - you can never have too much storage space.
