fart fans

I need to purchase bathroom fans for both the kids bath and the master bath for our house build. I would like a light, fan, and possibly a night light.

I am unsure if I want incandescent or fluorescent for the light. Fluorescent would save me the trouble of needed a motion sensor.

For the fan side, quiet would be nice, but it does not need to be silent. I would take a little noise for more cfm's.

Night lights would be nice, but it is not needed as I can add in-wall LED night lights.

Price is important as we are on a tight budget. I will be purchasing online or at a box store. I need these ASAP.

Please help with suggestions as I am overloaded with things and need some help here.

I have been searching and printing specs for a couple days and I can't decide yet either. For a fan like you want, it is going to cost about $125 to $150 for a 110cfm, 1-1.5 sone, light, nightlight.
Considering a basic lighted fan is about $75, it isn't much for the upgrade.
I have been looking at the wamhomecenter site. They have a big listing of the Panasonic and Broan/Nutone. I bought another item from them already. They were a good, low-cost source.

If you look through this whole forum, people really, really love the panasonic whisper series.

I hate flourescent lights, they belong in an office, not a house. Just my 2c as a potential buyer.

People don't seem to like the broans.

    Fart fans, too funny!

The Panasonics are wonderful! But I say that mainly from the noise perspective, which doesn't seem to be that important for you.

I would NOT get a flourescent light because the light would generally only be on for short periods of time, and flourescents aren't that efficient for short bursts. Also, for night-light functionality, a low-wattage incandescent bulb gives you more flexibility.

In our boys' bath, we got aBroan/Nutone that allowed us to turn on either the light, the fan or both. Sounded perfect. But in retrospect, that allowed the boys to ignore the fan while showering -- which they've done, since the fan was unpleasantly loud -- and now we have some moisture problems in that bathroom.

In our new bath, we put in the Panasonic with a timer switch so the light and fan work together at the same time. The fan's so quiet that it isn't at all annoying, and if you want light, you get fan.

Just ordered a Panasonic Whisper from place below -- make sure you put the item in the cart to see the "real" [cheaper] price. Even with shipping I found their prices very competitive.

Here is a link that might be useful: Panasonic fan source (awaiting my order)

All the Panasonic fans seem to come with fluorescents. Some Broan fans have incandescent bulbs, but they donÂt seem to be as quiet according to the specs.
Is this the general difference? I am thinking to go with the quiet. I like dark and quiet better than bright and loud.

What fans did you end up ordering Mikey?
I went with the Panasonic. There were two fans in the old bath, so I bought one FV-08VQ3 $89 (fan only) and one FV-08VFL2 $119 (fan & light). They are the 80cfm .3 sone.

Crude. You need to work on your vocabulary, Mike.

    Well said, Ysop: crude.

I don't care one way or another about your original post, but comments such as 'get a life' 'grow up' will not endear you on this board.

I stand by what i said. If you think "fart" is crude, you need to grow up and get thicker skin. If you have nothing to add to a post but telling someone they need to work on their vocab due to the word fart, you need to get a life.

tartanhabit - i been around long enough to know how to act on forums. If your goal is to be endeared, all is good. My goal is to get advice and bounce ideas around about building my house.

Actually, I'd say the person who thinks 'fart' is cute is the one who needs to grow up.

Why make the world an uglier, coarser place than it already is?

Well, we are all entitled to our opinions, even the bad ones.
