Great House! I remember seeing pictures in the snow and it was beautiful then and even more so now - with all the spring leaves.
It is looking so good, you must be so excited, and relieved and tired! :) If I remember right, you were your own GC?

I am the GC, electrician, security installer and vacuum installer amongst many other things. During this build I have also endured a fire in our rented house (we lost everything), my wife had an accident and was in the hospital for a week (she will be fine), and the framer tried to kill one of his workers. It has been extremely stressfull but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Everything looks so beautiful-keep repeating I'll be in soon, I'll be in soon....

So sorry for the fire and your losses-will you have all new shiny things for the great house?

(Glad the DW is ok too!)

Goodness, that's beyond stressful. I hope everyone is OK. The pictures of your house are wonderful! It looks incredible! I love the setting, all the ceiling variation, all that tile - WOW, I hope you weren't the tile installer! The colors are great too...........I hope you enjoy it!

Gorgeous home. Great choice in soft paint colors. My favorite room was the master bath. Thank you for sharing.

I also really like your front door. Would you might sharing specifics on the manufacturer and type? Congratulations on being almost there. It is a beautiful house.

The door is a therma-tru classic craft fiberglass door with 12" sidelights and the walnut stain kit. I will talk to the painter and get the exact colors, my wife picked them, we used Benjamin moore Aura paint.

Thanks for the info gregdose. It is nice to know that a fiberglass door can look so beautiful. We are still shopping and have been looking at both solid wood and fiberglass. I'll take a look at Therma-Tru's website. Like the other posters, I also love your colors as well. Especially the green!

Wow, you have really been through alot. Hopefully moving into your new home will bring you and your DW much joy. My husband and I love your home I had shown it to him as an example of a detached garage/breezeway idea I had. We are in the planning stages and are not sure how much we want to take on as far as being our own GC, we may use a 'hybrid' approach and hire someone as a consultant or to manage a portion of the project. Any thoughts or experience you could share would be much appreciated.
Thank you, looking forward to hearing that you are all moved in soon!

Everything is beautiful and i love your pantry door. The tub in the master bath is great....when do you think you will be in?

Gorgeous. I love it. Congrats on such a beautiful/unique home.

The tiling in all of the bathrooms is stunning. I noticed what looked like window seats built into most of your bedrooms. Did you make any of those functional storage? Or are they simply seating nooks? I'm putting a window seat into what will be our (future) kids' room and I want it to act as a toy chest too, but don't know the most practical way of doing so.

Thank you so much for all of the kind words about my home. I have worked very hard the past three years researching and designed the entire home right down to choosing the door knobs.

The window seats are functional, the tops are hinged and they open up. Each seat is made from one sheet of "Sandeply" ($30), one piece of half round trim ($6), and a piano hinge($10) all purchased from Home Depot. The trim carpenter installed them (about an hour) and the painter painted them.

I have to move in by June 10 (my insurance company will no longer pay for my rental-fire).

Luckymom-I am an electrician and I have family in construction so I had a few expert opinions whenever I needed them. I saved alot of money GCing the project myself and bartered with other trades whenever I could. It was very stressful but it is extremely rewarding. You have to be onsite daily because everyone makes mistakes constantly and will do anything to avoid fixing them. If you have the time, some knowledge of construction, and access to alot of knowledge about construction you will do fine. I hired one contractor to do the excavation and masonry and another guy to do the shell-framing, roofing, and siding. This approach worked well. I can send you my standard sub-contractor contract if you send me your e-mail address.

What product did you use for the fireplace surround?

I really do like the house, but there is one thing I noticed that you may want to keep an eye on over the years. It looks to me like you used corrugated culvert pipe instead of sonotubes for your deck piers. I may be seeing things. Sonotubes have smooth walls so that in the winter the frozen ground can't heave the piers. (I saw the snow pictures so I'm assuming that the ground freezes where you are.) Using the pipe it looks to me like you used, the frozen ground has the potential of lifting the piers over time. Depending on the connection to your footer that may not happen.

I'm no builder and maybe one of the pros will chime in and say this is one of those rare things not worth worrying about. I really do like the house and you did an excellent job over all.

The fireplace and chimney is Eldorado river rock in the Rio Grande color.
