which induction brand 36'

Since the miele 36" induction isn't available - and according to miele is backordered, I need to pick a new brand. The GE doesn't work for me because of the depth needed. I don't like the knobs on the Viking. I'm thinking of the thermador CIT365DS, or the DIVA 36". Amps aren't an issue as we are rewiring. What do you all think?

Diva would be my joice. Controls are easier to use. It takes fewer steps to turn the Diva zones on and set them. Also does not beep everytime you touch the controls. Diva does not have boost so you can use the othe zone on the same generator when the other is at it's highest setting. I also think the Diva is more attractive. Less rings and dots and graphic clutter.

I'm also getting ready to purchase a 36" induction. I want all black with no stainless steel rim. It looks like my choices are down to the GE Profile or the Kitchenaid. The Kitchenaid is about $100 more at $2,068. I'd like to keep it under $2,000. We are leaning towards the GE. Ours is in an existing island so space underneath is not an issue.

    I have a 36" Thermador(CIT362DS) and love it.

Do you have much noise/humming with the thermador?

Also, why does the DIVA take fewer steps to adjust the controls, or does it?

Does the Thermador take multiple steps to adjust the temp?

For the Thermador unit you have to press once to turn the cooktop on then choose your zone to use and ativate that zone and then set your power. On the diva you just go to the zone and set the power. Diva also has 3 presets.

I just ordered the 5 burner Diva after so much research. It is very costly, but I chose it because it has the most power and has been around for a long time. Also, I didn't want the power boost thing. viking has lots of power, as well, but we didn't like the knob placement either. I did "test drive" the smaller Diva and loved it.

    No and no.

The only time we hear a hum, and we have to get close to listen for it, is when we put the unit into powerboost. Even then it stops quickly. Note that there is another poster who has the same exact unit and does hear a hum at certain times so I'm not sayiing that Thermador has solved the hum issue. See my other post that explains what causes the hum.

P.S. When I say ours does not hum, I know it's not my hearing because I've had my whole family listen for it (unless we're all hard of hearing..lol)

Changing the temperature takes two touches or a touch and a slide (which ever you fancy,it's all touch controls). The first touch is to choose which hob to adjust, the second is the setting.

I've had the unit a while so if you have any other questions, I'll do my best at answering them for you.

Quite honestly, you will need to pick the unit that best suits you. I test drove the Thermador as well, but it did not appeal to me. There isn't a right and wrong answer...you can do the research and agonize, but it is up to you in the end...it is similar to chocolate or vanilla ice cream...pick what you like and what matters to you. Basically, induction works well...so go have fun and try things out!

Don't want to hijack this thread, but Paso, congratulations on ordering the Diva. You will probably get it installed before I order my cooktop so please post a follow up and let us know how you like it. You are the only other person I know who was as tortured by this decision as I am. Thanks.

Thank you, cheril27...I will keep you posted!

After reading the OP, since I had chosen the Miele, I freaked and called my dealer and the regional rep. They checked with the mfr. and distributor and told me I could have one by the end of this month. I live in New England and wonder whether that makes the difference, since the OP I believe lives in Oregon...

Petlady1 - are you ordering the 36" miele? By all accounts out here they are backordered. Have you actually seen a miele 36" in the stores back there?

Lucypwd, yes and yes. Saw and used one is one of the Miele demo showrooms. My actual dealer does not have one in stock, but then the only induction they've ever had that was actually usable was a Wolf. Who told you they were backordered for so long?

I also was told by our local dealer that they were backordered...last I heard was they are due the end of June. Don't know whether that's changed.

Friday I was told by the regional showroom and today by my appliance dealer that they expect them to ship next week. Remind me (I am not ready to receive mine yet) and I'll let you know if they are actually shipping.

I have had a 36in Windcrest for one week and I love it. No stainless steel border and no fingerprints on the speckled glass.

have to say i would not have an induction if it was not a dive, i have seen both the viking and the thermador blow coils..... my diva gets used hard in our offices....

I have had a 30" all induction Viking for 1 year. Thumbs down on reliability. Thumbs down on repair. It costs $800 for one mother board and each burner has a motherboard. also, unit is very difficult to work on.

Tucsonscott, that's terrible! After only one year, they didn't make you pay for the repair???

Paso and Cheril27, as you can see by my User Name, I also am so tortured by this decision it's making me nuts. I got as far as having my Visa card out to order the 36" GE Profile about a month ago. Per my User Name... I did not... My concern about GE is that their appliance division is being sold. What happen's service wise if it is? My neighbor has the Diva. She gave me a demo and WOW! I am really leaning that way. I live in AZ and my concern about Diva is being able to get service. Is it readily available?

can not decide, do I know how you feel! We drove 150 miles to try out the Diva and I asked about service from that location. I was told that Diva can outsource the service to you. But, in the end, we were able to buy the Diva through our local store. I think Vent-A Hood is the distributor here in CA. Maybe your local retailer, can help you...after all I am sure they want the sale.

Good Luck and keep us informed.

PS We haven't installed the cabinets yet, so I have no info on the Diva, as of yet, except our few minutes of our "test drive".

OK, so I'm going with the DIVA for anyone interested. Now my issue is where to get it as there isn't a supplier in our area. Has anyone ordered directly from Diva or the induction site? Pros/cons of direct purchase vs finding a dealer geographically distant?

Paso, thank you for your response. That's a great idea, I will ask the 1 appliance dealer in my area that even has a Diva displayed. btw... he quoted me a price of $2700. Lucypwd, congrats on making the decision to get the Diva. I have the same question you do about whether to buy from a dealer or buy online. The dealer that has the Diva is an independent with one store. imho some online dealers are probably more likely to stay in business.

WOW....$2700 is such a great deal!!! I could not get it that low here in CA. But, I am still glad that we will be installing it in late July/early August. You guys might be using your Diva before me, so let me know what you think.

Ok, I lied. The 36" Diva is actually $2,799, not $2,700. According to the salesman, some of the huge companies have fixed pricing with no wiggle room. However, Diva is not one of those companies (although they'd like to be) so they are able to discount Diva products heavily and still make $$'s. Also, regarding my earlier concerns (when I was still considering the GE Induction) that the GE Appliance division is being sold, the salesman says that GE has been trying to sell for years, but have only recently gotten hugely aggressive about it. Meanwhile, now that I have decided to get the Diva, I am looking for a downdraft vent (yes.... i know that downdraft is inferior but I don't have a choice). I am considering the Thermador or the Broan. The Broan is less expensive. Does anyone have any thoughts on downdrafts, and if it is worth the extra $$'s to go Thermador?

can_not_decide, can you share where you found the 36" Diva for $2,799? I've been searching and so far the best price I've found is $3,249 from ebay. Thanks!

I paid in the $3200 area as well. I don't have it installed yet, but I happy with the choice anyway. If you can get it for $2799, go for it!!!
