Portable Induction Burner -

I just got a single induction unit that sits on the countertop. I wanted something that provided excellent simmering. It is made by Viking but I am sure its a repackaged product.

I love it. Extremely precise and far superior to my Wolf for simmering. And it looks cool too.

Cheers

I got a Sunpentown unit on eBay so I could see if I would like a full induction cooktop. The answer is definitely yes! An added bonus is now I have a little cooktop to use during the remodel.

I saw a single induction burner at a local Asian market and wondered if it was worth a try. Thanks for the encouragement; this may go on the wish list.

We bought a Mr Induction single burner when we first started planning our remodel to see if we wanted to invest in induction for the new cooktop. Once we got it, it was pretty much the only burner we used and we were sold on induction. We are now in week 7 of our remodel - kitchen/dining/living room. Between Mr Induction and the $99 mini convection/micro/toaster oven/broiler we are managing very well.

I cannot imagine why these portable units were not available sooner. I am just soooo impressed with how well it performs. I am amazed with how low I can turn it down and maintain a beautiful simmer without scorching the bottom. I am seriously thinking of getting rid of my Wolf and going induction.

Of course all my copper cookware will now be obsolete but, at least Grandma's cast iron still works.

Villandry, your Viking portable was an accidental product in way. When they were getting set to launch their 30" and 36" induction tops, they developed the portable so reps could take them out on the road and do demos for dealers, specifiers etc. My reaction to it was, "Can I buy that one?" The reaction of others must have been the same. It's a great single burner cooktop. We loan our little protoype out to customers so they can "test drive" induction at home with their own cookware.

It's a brilliant idea. Absolutely great for cooking next to the grill.

Unless I am missing something, I really want to get rid of my gas cooktop because I can see no reason to have one anymore.

The picture looks like a somewhat dressed up CookTek unit.

I have four of the 15K CookTek burners. Got a REALLY good deal for them from a restaurant that was closing.. really only needed two, but hey.

Absolutely bulletproof and works great. I'd really like a 35K burner and a 35K induction wok, but I can wait until I find a deal on those too..

I have heard good things about the Cooktek units. I am sure they are more powerful than mine. The Apogee looks awesome but they were significantly more expensive and this is a transitional unit for me.
