What did you put in the extra bedrooms (ie your kids/guest bedroom?) Did you put a center light in the room? track lighting? IF you have pics please share... we are trying to figure out what to do with lights in those bedrooms...thank you

I never put a light in the center of a bedroom ceiling or use track lighting. Since you are now required to have at least one light in a bedroom operated by a switch I usually put one 4" recessed downlight in a corner or one or two 4" recessed wall-washers to light a major wall especially if there will be artwork there. A wall sconce can work too if it doesn't waste good wall space. Also, I usually put gooseneck wall lamps on each side of the bed. I think it is important to keep a bedroom ceiling as simple, clean and uncluttered as possible since you will see it more than any other ceiling.

For the kids/guest bedrooms we put a lighting fixture in the center of the ceiling (chandys for the girls, a semi-flushmount for the guest) for overall lighting. then we have accent lighting (lamps) on the bedside tables. For the master we have one center fixture and 4 cans in the tray part of the ceiling, and 2 reading can lights right above the bed (LOVE these!). I have pictures of my kids rooms in my recent thread "we moved in".

For the guest bedroom in our new build, we put in switched receptacles. The only overhead fixture is a ceiling fan with no light. In bedrooms, I like a more intimate lighting and overhead lights just don't cut it for me.

Mixed emotions here, since I don't care for the appearance or affect of ceiling lights in BRs, yet very much like the extra and centralized lighting while cleaning. I've chosen a ceiling fan with light, with both wall and bedside controls for the fan, chairside, and bedside lights.

BTW, those who like bedside or reading lamps might be interested in something similar to this link. I haven't dealt with this company, but have used a similar control for years -- and it's much, much better than doing the awkward hunt-and-twist for a regular lamp switch. Mine is fastened to the headboard near the frame so it can't wander away.

Here is a link that might be useful: light switch button-control

I like a overhead central light fixture for emergencies when I need lots of light, fast. They are also nice for seeing detail when cleaning. Sometimes intimate lighting just doesnt work for those purposes. Especially as I get older. I keep the overhead light as unobtrusive as possible. I use table lamps and accent fixtures for the intimate lighting.
